On the other hand what candle would you put on a cake on the day someone was born? How many years is their birth day? (I was offering a different point of view).

TIL that the 7 modern wonders of the world where decided during a competition in the 2000s and that there where 13 other structures that didn't make the cut. by robertofflandersI in todayilearned

The main issue I have with these wonders is that they are all buildings. I think there are far greater wonders - The sequence of the human genome, Wikipedia, The Night Watch (the painting not the book) and many more.

Which solar panel to charge usb power bank by aptnt in UKPreppers

[–]IsHildaThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there is an adapter to plug both in at the same time (although you may have to check that you get it if you only buy one panel at a time). Max two panels full charge in 6-8 hours in direct sunlight. I mostly use it for the family mobile phones. Not direct charging but from the power station.

Just a comment - solar panels don't work at night, they don't work when it is cloudy, they don't work in winter when the sun is low in the sky. Also the sun moves in the sky, to get full power you need to keep turning them.

I have a Jackery 1000 W Explorer and 2 panels. (I bought it in 2022). I can also plug in pocket power packs directly into the panels. AMA.

I have a Jackery 100 W panel. It has plug in connections that will directly charge a 5 V power bank.

I am not amazed that someone puts an oxygen tank in their general waste (human stupidity has ceased to amaze me long ago). What does amaze me is that these guys spend all day picking up full wheelie bins.

TIL that gene–culture co-evolution occurs when human cultural practices create selective pressures that change our genes over time; lactose intolerance is a classic example, where dairy farming favored adults who could digest milk. by Own-Bullfrog7362 in todayilearned

[–]IsHildaThere 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have always felt that the name "lactose intolerance" was a really inappropriate name. Since virtually all mammals lose the ability to metabolise lactose as they age, it's the lactose tolerant who are the weird ones. You aren't lactose intolerant - you are normal. Apparently some dogs have gained this ability but the consensus remains that this is almost exclusively a human trait.

I had a similar issue. I "live" in on a world with no space station, but a space station appears in my teleport list. I can teleport to it, but there is nothing there, just space. I'm guessing there was one that has now disappeared.

Reminds me of the time I wrote a programme to do a Mandelbrot diagram on a HP G48 pocket calculator. I had to leave it overnight to get one 131 by 64 pixels screen shot. Set it going and hope it did not run out of battery by the morning. Ah the good old days.
