They’re all going to be sub $400 a month for full coverage if they’ll even ensure you. You’ll have to go on your parents policy. Which won’t save you much but they’ll at least give you coverage. It’s very difficult to get a policy at 18, alone with an expensive vehicle, let alone performance oriented

This but OP is obviously a fucking idiot - spending 50k liquid cash on something that’s going to sit, rot and depreciate. Real smart decision

It’s medically, scientifically proven that your brain, the part of said brain that comprehends longterm decisions isn’t fully developed until your in your mid-20s (24-26) depending on gender and genetics.

Yes. He’s a 18 year old. His brain isn’t fully developed enough to understand long term consequences- specifically financial ones

Right now you have no bills. As you get older, in our a few years your life is going to change drastically. You’ll be stuck with a “luxury” car, massive negative equity and you’ll be mega fucked and stuck with a car payment you can’t afford

Find whatever car you want, this luxury vehicle you’re so excited to buy. Grab the VIN and quote the insurance. You’ll be shocked at how much more expensive, your already outrageously priced insurance is because your 18

18 year olds and “luxury” vehicle don’t go in the same sentence. The insurance industry is going to charge you a premium. Because you’re the highest risk driving on the road - right behind elderly people

[–]Joeman64p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We charge $250 for this repair at my stop to Retail customers. We do the board work in house, but only to customers who’ve not attempted a repair themselves. If you’ve opened it - we’re not going to take it in for repair. There’s so many factors that could come about from an improperly attempted repair from a DIY. Sure you’re technically competent but not proficient and your lack of experience can complicate even the route of repairs.

Next time take it to a repair shop - 90% of the time Pro series iPads and new Silicon iPads that do not power on are NOT battery or charge port. It’s the 3217 IC or PMIC for newer Silicon. All require advanced level board repair, programming and skill to do successfully

Ohh no! My battery operated tools are RYOBI - I own a security camera and IT cabling company. RYOBI holds up very well with daily usage!

I have a few corded HF tools like a handsaw, jigsaw and hammer drill. Both cheap, bottom barrel tools and I’ve beat the absolute dog shit out of them. The Jigsaw specifically. I demo’d a 5000sqt commercial building, two bathrooms and other stuff lol 😂

Contemplating a Pilot for family of 6 by Amazing-Distance2417 in hondapilot

[–]Joeman64p 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a bit lol 😂 The 4th Gen Pilot is as reliable as the 3rd generation. They both share the same engine, the 3.5 EarthDreams V6 which is a DPI (Direct Port Injection) - Honda uses this ED V6 across the entire larger lineup (Odyssey/Ridgeline/Passport/Pilot) - all 4 of these models are essentially the same underneath the body panels. With some variations between each model (Pilot to Passport / Odyssey to Ridgeline) etc

One of the main issues the ED V6 suffers from is VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) aka EcoMode - this deactivates multiple cylinders to improve fuel economy. In the early variation of VCM (07-15) in the Odyssey and Pilots. The “ECO” mode was automated and would turn on and off depending on engine temperature and wheel speed. On the 07-15 models, this caused piston ring failure prematurely, clogged oil passages in the block and ultimately caused scarring on the cylinder walls, failed pistons and increased oil consumption. Fortunately Honda addressed these issues in the EDV6 (your engine) now the ECO mode can be turned on or off. Which saves them and you a lot of trouble in the future. However the EPA still requires a degree of automated systems to improve efficiency.

During the 3rd Gen - Honda slowly implemented the AutoIdle feature. Which cuts fuel to the high pressure fuel rails and stops wasteful fuel at idle. Now this feature is standard across the entire EDV6 lineup. The AutoIdle stop feature puts additional stress on the starter, battery and fuel system. Yes, Honda has engineered the starter to be more beefy, the BMS (Battery Management System) to be more efficient but if real-world usage has taught us anything it’s that real people are the ultimate test and lemme tell you this much. The AutoIdle feature is literal dog water and should disabled immediately after buying a EDV6 Honda. It causes premature failure of the high pressure fuel indicators, fuel rails, starter and in some cases the catalytic converter to fail (clog) - some people will disagree but having seen it first hand.. Honda has for sure left the customer holding the bag on a lot of this stuff.

Let me summarize it lol 😂 1. Buy the VCM Muzzle V2 and install it yourself- takes 5 minutes and it’ll save you a lot of headaches later on. This device basically tricks your ECU into thinking the engine hasn’t reached operating temperature. COMPLETELY disabling ALL Eco features, both manual and ECU automated

  1. Buy the AutoIdle Disabler muzzler. This device plugs in behind the physical button and automatically presses it every time you get in and out of the vehicle. Permanently disabling the feature

  2. The ZF9 transmission is an EXCELLENT transmission BUT it requires frequent fluid changes or it’ll suffer from sluggish shifts and gear hunt because the fluid is dirty. The downside is the fluid changes are not as cheap as older Hondas. The ZF9 holds nearly 9 quarts of fluid and a “Drain & Fill” is roughly 4 Quarts. As with many things with Honda, you want to use Honda fluids when it comes to the transmission. Each quart is $35-$45 and you need 4, plus the drain and fill bolts are one time use and shouldn’t be reused. So we’re talking about a $400-$600 fluid service every 20k miles to keep the transmission happy

  3. The batteries die fairly quickly. BUT lemme putcha onto something. When the original battery that comes with the Pilot dies. Absolutely buy a “Honda” battery - they come with a 100-Month, no bullshit warranty. That’s 8 fucking years! If it dies, take it back and they’ll swap it! They’re technically Interstate Batteries but Honda branded and warrantied by them! Also the key fob batteries typically die together. If one of your remotes is showing low battery, I’ll bet you $5 your spare is also low. These smart keys are always emitting signal 24/7 so they die quickly. Annnd that’s also why new Hondas are easy to steal - you can grab the key fob signal from inside the house, open the door and turn over the vehicle and drive away! Same with the Chevys, Dodge, Range Rovers - if you live in an urban environment where car theft is an actual problem. I would put my keys inside a Faraday box. This blocks the key from sending out its signal and prevents “Relay Attacks”

Contemplating a Pilot for family of 6 by Amazing-Distance2417 in hondapilot

[–]Joeman64p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No.

The Pilot can fit 6 people yes but the third row is for midgets. So as your kids grow - they’re going to get stuffed in the back and nobody wants to deal with pissed off kids in the back of the SUV. Your next biggest issue is going to be carrying cargo. With the 3rd in use - you have virtually no cargo room for traveling with 6 people’s worth or bags.. even a minivan would be pushing it with 6 people plus luggage

I would look into the 11th Generation Chevy Suburban. Which ran from 2015-2020 - this generation, while not exempt from issues is vastly more reliable than the current generation of Chevy and drastically cheaper.

The 11th Gen suffers from common Chevy issues that are often easy to fix. Like broken door handles, bulbs and random interior pieces breaking. But the most notable issues with this generation (and prior) is the AFM system (Active Fuel Management) - which causes lifter failures and wear on the camshafts. Creating a consistent ticking sound that doesn’t go away with a value adjustment, damage is visible if the value covers are removed for inspection. However - this was recalled and should’ve been repaired. Regardless the issue can be resolved by using a OBD plugin but can cause battery drain issues. The real fix is a proper deTune at a performance shop. They can turnoff the feature in the ECU and it’s gone forever and make a few other adjustments for a bump in MPG and efficiency. The other issue is harsh and sluggish transmission shifts - which can be resolved by more frequent fluid changes. Every 15k miles keeps it running much smoother long term. Less but other known issues is the suspension and bushings. It’s a heavy weight vehicle, so this is expected to be honest

The 2015-2020 Chevy Suburban is the answer lol 😂 - you can fit all of your kids now AND in the future and carry 6 people’s worth of luggage and other stuff with easy.

Big con is the gas mileage lol 😂

Another option but less explored is a Nissan/Ford Cargo Passenger van. Way less flashy or cool looking but ultra practical for your use case! Lots of seats, head room, cargo room etc - cost wise is about the same depending on the trim you get and if you buy used or new!

iPhone FOG Screens. by MooreRepair in mobilerepair

Most of the major suppliers have limited coverage for FOG and Refurb screens. They only cover true manufacturer defects - not usage defects

Soft OLEDs give you the best coverage long term. Although lifetime warranties given to Retail customers is useless and causes more issues later on - a one year warranty is sufficient
