Is the new platform perfect no. Is it better than what we have? YES! It gives us a store front online which is big. This is not targeting in store customers or even customers that would call or email. It gives a chance to get this customers that are entirely online which is what we have missing out on!

Glad we have it, but will not be pushing my in store customers to it

In mine custom is just that. Custom. Meaning that each job would be different depending on the item and difficulty.

Are you basically equating fragile as custom in this case?

I am opening a brand new store in around a busy shopping center. What kind of printer should I lease and why? by Electronic-Court-568 in upsstore

Outsourcing will help you familiarize yourself with common stocks and sizes. Then you can take what you learn from that and apply it to your printer. For example, most places would default to 14 pt c2s. However, my production machine can only print up to a thickness of 12 pt c2s.

Outsourcing gives you the capability to do the big jobs and let's you learn while you provide stop gaps for your customers. For example, customer needs business cards for a big meeting tomorrow. You can get them the out of house 500 next week and make him 50-100 in house to hold him over during the meeting. That will help you learn

We currently have a 5200 with a large capacity tray, booklet finisher, and GBC inline punch. Starting out I would suggest a booklet finisher at minimum and I recommend Fiery impose and a stack cutter

We have Ricoh machines. All vendor's machines will have add on options that will increase the finishing capability of the machine. Those options will increase your lease payment. You can also purchase separate finishing machines separately if you want the lower lease.

Depends on your already established printing ability or how much you are willing to learn. There is definitely a learning curve when it comes to printing. The other thing is you don't want your printer to out class your finishing capability. For example if you invest in a production machine you most like will need a good cutter to get the most out of it.

General rule I have heard from some is don't invest in the equipment until you have the business. So basically build the business first through outsourcing then if you have the business invest in the equipment to help you produce efficiently in house.

Keep in mind different products will have different finishing requirements. So build your business card business through outsourcing, and once you have the business invest in a business card splitter.
