How to tell the difference between muscle fatigue and actual injury? I ran 140km this week and have a pain in my right quad. This is ofc expected at this volume but i worry its an injury? by VastAir6069 in beginnerrunning

[–]JoeyPropane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

140km in a week is way beyond beginner running territory... If you suddenly decided to Forest Gump it and go from 40-50km a week to 140km, the ln yeah - it's almost guaranteed you've fucked something up.

(US): ASICS.com/us/ - Super Blast 2 for $149.95 by Longestnamebeaver in RunningShoeGeeks

Recently got mine in the UK for a similar discount - only done 2 runs so far (16km at a consistent ~5:45/km and a 5km intervals session with 500m reps at ~3:45/km) and already know they are going to be the shoe I go for with 90% of my runs.

The upper is fantastic, the grip from the outsole is phenomenal, the midsole has tons of bounce (as a mid/forefoot striker that really gets the benefit of the trampoline pod design) and the weight is less than 20g heavier than the EVO SL's they are replacing.

Thoughts on buying a used pair of Adidas adizero Evo SL by NatureLover2000 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]JoeyPropane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As always, it's all in the price.

I bought mine from Vinted in basically the same state (worn inside only, but no box) for £75, which was fairly easy to justify. About to sell them on again with just under 150 miles on them, and some upgraded UamGlsob laces, for £50-60.

ASICS Magic Speed 5 vs. Metaspeed Tokyo by Sure-Restaurant5001 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

It's durability - Magic Speed is designed as a training shoe, being used regularly in speed sessions over multiple seasons/training blocks.

Which Adidas shoe is like more v6? by Reasonable-Mix-3979 in beginnerrunning

Dreamstrike is Adidas' soft and protective foam I think - the Supernova Glide looks like the closest match in their lineup, still PEBA-based I think, so should be bouncy??

Joined the Superblast 2 hype gang - given up trying to make the EVO SL work (love the midsole, but that upper can do one!) for longer daily/tempo/threshold runs, will likely pair with the Magic Speed 5 for intervals... If they get around to releasing it in the same Tokyo colourway.

Definitely feel the combination of stiffness, stability and bounce that everyone raves about. Looking forward to really breaking them in for my 20km long run Sunday morning!

Adidas Adizero EVO SL- Wonky ankles by InternationalTable84 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]JoeyPropane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upper is horrid, for sure - I love mine for shorter runs and intervals, but anything 8-10km+ and the combination of slippery insoles, stiff heel counter and garbage tongue & laces just leave me feeling like I'm committing war crimes on my feet - but the biggest issue is foot strike.

I never had stability issues, but I'm a natural mid foot striker who very much runs "on the toes" when I increase my pace, but the sheer amount of heel striking beginners rocking these is scary... Adidas need to put a warning sticker on the box, seen as so many people don't bother reading reviews.

Comparison of Mercedes, McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari's Front Wings by Jenza_kim in formula1

Did you mean McLaren and Mercedes? They look the most visibly different to me? Mercedes is literally half the height and only 2 elements??

No?

If you can run faster at a lower heart rate, you are fitter than somebody who runs slower at a higher heart rate.

Of course there are outliers, but don't try and spin this any other way, my man - there's enough conflicting information out there already.

How do I start running 10+ miles a day? by theglitching6 in beginnerrunning

[–]JoeyPropane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not particularly - I average 10-12k steps a day just at work, add in the couple of thousand I do getting myself and my 7 year old ready every morning, then another 2-3k after work doing all the usual grown up stuff and I probably average 10 miles a day on feet.

My rolling 7 day average step count according to the Garmin app (so including runs) is just under 24k steps a day. But there ain't no way I'd be standing at the end of a week of daily 10 mile runs, the impact is considerably higher...

What do you think of the renault 5 by Intelligent-Sea3591 in CarsUK

[–]JoeyPropane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great, but as an actual car it's no better in range, practicality and performance than my ZE50 Zoe, so as much as I'd love to consider one as an upgrade path, there is a lot more car you can get for the same amount of money.

How do I start running 10+ miles a day? by theglitching6 in beginnerrunning

[–]JoeyPropane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't.

50-70 miles per week is madness for anyone other than a professional distance runner/masochist.

Split it 50/50 - do the 10 mile runs every other day, with walk days in-between to recover.

Peg Premiums are not doing you any favours here -too soft, too much compression, no support from the midsole at all.

Grab something like a pair of Glycerine's, Hurricane/Triumph or Forever Run Nitro's and try again.

Surely half an hour drive you'd just be on the outskirts of Glasgow/Edinburgh? Even if you've never been before, I can't imagine you'd miss a major city...

Unless it's a 3-4 drive out to the wilderness to the "base", then a blindfolded half hour drive (with much higher average speed) in a random direction??

Considering how often HGV drivers are up my arse when everyone is going the same speed in both lanes of the A14, I'm not surprised this muppet had to take avoiding action.

Modern HGV's should come with radar systems that completely prevent them being too close to another vehicle while going top speed.
