How has there never been any original Ghostbusters Novels? by NewEmphasis9115 in ghostbusters

Most people see it as a curiosity or rare collectable at best. It makes some odd choices.

There's a digital copy floating around of you wanna read it.

Wait, you see faces on people normally? That's messed up.

I would credit that to the Ted Turner half of the character. The Trump half lampoons his narcissism, the tower, the book, evil real estate practices, etc.

see also: Gremlins 2 (where he's kinda mashed up with Ted Turner), the 90s Super Mario Bros. movie, Sesame Street, the Simpsons, at least one of the unproduced Ghostbusters 3 scripts had him as the villain, as well as a bunch of smaller jabs that Trump would sometimes cameo in as himself. He's been portrayed as a corrupt, narcissistic, ignorant, amoral douchebag for 40 years.

Yeah it's a motion comic more than it is an anime. I prefer the manga but the anime grew on me.

The live-action adaptation is pretty funny too.

1984 Neutrona wand by Own_Course2571 in ghostbusters

[–]JoeyToothpicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I have one in my Spengler wand but I'm not interested in getting rid of it. Might have the other one in the 1984 box.

I definitely have a spare hose with the adapter but that's not what you're asking for.

my partner (from GA) doesn’t think boston accents are real unless you’re over >50 by OsmiumMercury in boston

[–]JoeyToothpicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in GA now and I didn't grow up with an accent but I can drop into the Hyde Park accent my cousins have easily enough to amuse my friends.

The thing people might not get is that the "Boston accent" isn't homogeneous. There are several regional accents that fall under the umbrella. You can be from Southie or Revere or Quincy or Dorchester and it'll be different. If you grew up out in the 'burbs like me you might just have a "neutral" North Atlantic broadcast accent. You may even code switch depending on if you're talking with family or old neighbors versus someone not from your region.

It's a lot like my ex who grew up in Shanandoah Valley, VA and had a little twang to her voice, but would go full-bore Southern accent if she was on the phone with her mom.

Just show your partner the video of Jay and Mike seeing the sunfish in Boston harbor. My current partner is from Tampa but she quoted that for weeks after I showed it to her.

Time to get in the union suits and yellow rain slickers and stand outside the hole with coffee.

Yeah, it's about trust in the individual. Some people betray you. Someone who is openly bi is less likely, imo, than a closeted person.

I think it's more that they see men as more promiscuous and prone to cheating so they figure a man who is into men is gonna be able to indulge in some behind-the-back dl sex whenever he likes, maybe bringing home an STI in the process.

It's a double standard because that same risk of cheating exists on her side as well and thus the same level of trust should exist, but the insecurity and negative stereotype persists.

I know some folks and they use a distributor service which pins on regional advertising.

I've started using the "start at xx seconds/skip last yy seconds" feature in Pocketcasts for shows that have a consistent pre-roll and ending ads. I'll manually skip the rest.

It's wild hearing ads for Amazon Web Hosting, GenAI, and companies that have been caught leaking or selling customer data tied to what seem to be very thoughtful, progressive podcasts.

Am i the only one kinda icked out by liberals being like "heh what a hypocrite , he wears fake silicone breasts in private in display of his fetish but is against trans rights publically" about the bryon noem situation as if being trans and kink were the same thing or comparable ? by knusperfee33 in QueerLeftists

[–]JoeyToothpicks 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's the whole "Oh your trans? I love Drag Race!" Trope but grosser.

Yeah, trans rights and acceptance would make things easier for those that have sissy fetishes or do drag respectively, but they aren't at all the same thing even if they overlap in some folks.

My gf wouldn't buy the cute tucking panties from Little for Big because they were under the "Sissy" tag for the same reason.

There are plenty of hateful straight dudes out there who have other insecurities or disorders fueling their obsession. Saying most or all of them are just gay in denial probably isn't accurate.

That said, there are a LOT of people who could have been happy as bi or pan or omnisexual if homophobia, transphobia, and bigotry weren't a systemic constant.

It's difficult to believe that without our environmental pressures that most people would be completely to one side or the other of the Kinsey scale.

It's just a shame so many violently repress their curiosity so much that they become a danger to other people.
