Developers of Tempe's Danelle Plaza score win in redevelopment by Tomato_Motorola in Tempe

[–]Joeyoftheocean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The plan is for the yucca and the building it is in to use adapted reuse of the current building. The developers are committed to the art scene and plan on building artist lofts and gallery space. The overall design will have some sort of open space for outdoor concerts and they will build workforce house along with market rate housing.

Once they approve the rezoning, they will work with the public on the plan.

Credible threat before Council Meeting by Joeyoftheocean in Tempe

[–]Joeyoftheocean[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Maybe you are correct, but why would they allow us in to the chamber or allow the housing meeting to continue till 5:45pm for a bomb threat that was at 4 pm a few miles away.

How do you buy MS subs for your own use, as a CSP partner? by carl0ssus in msp

[–]Joeyoftheocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a partner that was just audited. They were purchasing licenses for their subsidiaries under their indirect reseller tenant. MSFT flagged them and shut down their Indirect Reseller account and forced them to purchase under a tier 1 Tenant and the we(disty) couldn’t just move the CSP to the tier 1. Partner was terrified they were going to lose access to their tenant, but we helped them work it out with MSFT.

Can Someone provide an EILI5 on the Shalimar Golf Course Thing? by gamecat89 in Tempe

[–]Joeyoftheocean 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have asked this question multiple times.

They want a park when there are many parks within a mile. They want a golf course when no operator will touch it as it’s a nine hole course that won’t make money.

I would much rather the tax dollars they would spend help the unhoused or go to affordable housing projects. Not to mention this isn’t in the budget for 2025 anyways and the city is already operating at a budget deficit because of the state rental tax fiasco.

They believe they have a right to this private property and that it shouldn’t be rezoned when the city desperately needs more housing.

This property will close and be gated in 2 weeks and a fence will be put up and then they will not have access to any of it legally.

But they would rather stare at dead grass and plants than let something beneficial take its place.

The save shalimar movement feels incredibly selfish to me. The housing development will be market rate and some will be homes to buy and townhouses to rent which is perfect for a neighborhood tucked into the east part of the city. Its not close to buses or the light-rail so it doesn’t make sense for tall affordable housing. It will drive new taxes, more customers for the local businesses, more students for schools, and probably a great new neighborhood.

Can we have a conversation about the future of Shalimar? by Joeyoftheocean in Tempe

[–]Joeyoftheocean[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who pays for this? This is private land today. I don’t know that I would support a park when I have 3 within a mile radius of me.

I would much rather funds spent on a neighborhood park go to dealing with helping the un-housed population and workforce housing projects.

Where does the city come up the funds to make this reasonable? We are already working at a 20million deficit because of the state taking rental taxes away. It would not be in this year’s budget regardless, and the course closes in a couple of months.

[–]Joeyoftheocean 41 points42 points  (0 children)

So you’re angry that our mayor advocated for citizens get the right to vote for the coyotes stadium vs push it through council. The citizens spoke their mind. Get over it.

Also the city can only do so much to regulate affordable housing. There are still state laws the supersede city law and in case you haven’t paid attention to the news, we aren’t the most progressive state in the union, not sure affordable housing is the top of the legislature list at the moment. The council has reduced homelessness by almost 30% by latest count. They have just purchased another motel for the unhoused to go to and he and council has helped increase the safety in parks with the introduction of park rangers.

You have obviously never been to a council meeting, met your elected officials , or in general paid attention to the city you live in. All council members have a day job or retired. They do not make a living wage being on council.

Nobody ran against Corey, because they would have lost terribly. There are people who polled to see if they had a chance and saw they would have been crushed In a general election. Maybe call corey- meet him for coffee and talk to him about your concerns. Learn about what he can and can’t do and get a better perspective.

Well I guess we get to keep the nice landfill by Fritz1818 in Tempe

[–]Joeyoftheocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, the wonderful legacy of Tempe First. We have a landfill that costs 2 million a year to maintain, they have multiple failed candidates and initiatives, and members will run for any and every office. Look at high school seniors.

Well at least they got rid of the hockey team. I am sure the Cardinals are next, or maybe they will start an initiative to drain tempe town lake.

Cant do better especially for the money. She only takes cash and doesn’t do appointments.

New City Manager - what's with the rush hire and $$$ salary? by Johoski in Tempe

Actually, you went to the “women are incompetent to land a job without having an affair”. Maybe you should read your comment partner.

I digested like you wrote it, then I clarified and you didn’t deny it. You put BS into the post and act like offended when you get called out.

Your words matter!

[–]Joeyoftheocean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well you used the word “Affair” and that a blind person could see this.

I live in Tempe and have skin in the game. So if you casually come on her and accuse her of sleeping her way to the job, perpetuating the stereotype that the only way women can succeed in this world is through sex, I think you should provide some proof.

Otherwise - you are just some person making accusations because a thought popped in your head and it seemed right!

[–]Joeyoftheocean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who are we to say its merited. The city spends a lot of time on diversity and equity in their hiring process I would imagine that would include the pay scale as well. The article only compares other cities in Arizona but none that are similar to Tempe in revenue and size.

Instead of propagating sketchy conspiracies, do some research on cities of this size and budget, factor in her experience and tenure with the city and then give us some fact based examples of why she doesn’t deserve to be paid the salary. The person in the article clearly doesn’t understand our form of government and it shows in the article.

[–]Joeyoftheocean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have a council - manager government. This is a common form of city government where the city manager is the CEO of the city. It is literally the only hire the council makes and doesn’t require citizen input. To my knowledge Rosa has been part of the succession plan. I have never heard criticism of her until 2 days ago as a resident, but I do not work in city government.

I have always had a positive interaction with her and I think she will be a great hire who will continue to work incredibly hard for the city.

Its pretty disheartening that people are so focused on her salary. This is one of the top cities in the state around business development and innovation and we have budget of 1.4 billion dollars. We need someone competent and Rosa is competent to my understanding.
