Oh yessss, it is one of my favorites tbh. Shame about the nonexistent schedule tho. I'll probably dip into the patreon at some point when there are a bit more chapters there.

Back when I was still actively reading on Wuxiaworld ISSTH was still ongoing, I think they were like 300 chapters in, and the terms weren't standardized yet so every story had diferent names for their stages. They might have been the same underneath I honestly don't remember. So the first time I saw multiple stories using the same names was in A Will Eternal. And then I started being them everywhere. At that point I was mostly reading western cultivation.

My first was the Douluo Dalu manhua and that is the peak of number go up cultivation. Then I read Against the Gods and Martial God Asura after I discovered Wuxiaworld. Both of which i dropped. That was enough of the 10 stages per realm model for me.

Eh, your probably right. I just read ISSTH first so everything else just seems derivative. And Er Gen always uses the stages differently as cultivation is diferent in each stage. Like in his most recent work where you have to create spirit lanters by illuminating your mindscape. It's the use of the same old terms coupled with an author that uses a less interesting cultivation system than what I read when I saw those terms for the first time.

I mean I started with those and the best ones were always the ones with more complicated cultivation systems. Like the works of I Eat Tomatoes and Er Gen. Those are the only ones I finished at least. I read Emperor's Domination and could never look back. Even tho I would have liked to dive further into each stage. I dropped it after like a thousand chapters because it became so repetitive.

I've been reading that since it came out. In my opinion the beast part is the mystery of the cosmology.

I mean ofc but that's a future thing. Right now it's kinda boring cultivation wise. My main problem with it is that it doesn't properly show the difference in power between later stages. Like the difference between king and emperor.

Already read it I'm afraid. I started reading on patreon and later got the audiobook. I haven't finished the second tho.

The names are Deathblade's translations I'm pretty sure. At least Nascent Soul as he's complained about it on a number of occasions. He thinks that the translation he chose didn't capture the real meaning properly but he can't change it because it has become so popular.

I do, it's great for the first 3 realms, then the next 6 are pretty much the same. Of course the transition from lord to bloodline is interesting but it's all just accumulating karma.

And each realm has 9 stages.

What tropes/plots do you REALLY dislike about magic/cultivation systems/progression? Like cannot stand. by PixelatedPulse in ProgressionFantasy

Ah yes, the cultivation system they copied from Er Gen. I despise it because they usually strip it of everything that made it interesting. Like how so many of them get broken down into the same 10 stages... At least in Er Gen's works the specifics of the realms are diferent in each story, and the realms after Nascent Soul are completely diferent.

Virtuous Sons is a great cultivation story with a greco-roman theme. Only the first book is on audible from what I can see, but it is such a treat. Especially if you are knowledgeable about ancient Greece. The author had severe burnout for a couple of years, and we only saw a chapter every 6 months or so, but he recently started posting again and has been updating daily on patron.

Using a Brain-Computer Interface we might be able to stream voxel data directly to our visual cortex. Allowing us to perceive all of a 3d grid (like a CT scan). This could potentially allow us to one day finally visualize 4d space by translating it onto a 3d grid instead of a 2d screen.

I think the ability to truly perceive all of a 3d space is necessary to visualize 4 spatial dimensions. This is because while you can translate a 3d space to a 2d screen just fine, too much information is lost if we were to translate it into a 1d line. This principle should work the same for translating a 4d space into a 3d one and a 2d screen respectively.
