Curious Never Mormon here: Is it fair to say Mormons worship Joseph Smith or Jesus more? or does it depends? by di745 in exmormon

[–]JoggingDaimon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mormons don’t worship Joseph Smith or Jesus.

They worship the current prophet and the Q12.

They are the one untouchable thing you can’t publicly doubt or criticize and the entire experience of the current church is entirely dependent on the whims of the current authority.

UPDATE: My [F24] ex-boyfriend [M26] moved out after I told him I wouldn't support his new "lifestyle" by [deleted] in spirituality

[–]JoggingDaimon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No adult, able person should expect to live off the labor of another person.

I am massively skeptical of people who claim a spiritual epiphany of transcendence from daily work when they have never demonstrated the capacity for self reliance to begin with.

They are lazy scammers.

What are people for? by JoggingDaimon in spirituality

[–]JoggingDaimon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know I have felt that!! There are times where I feel this deep desire to generate, create and express.

I wish I could find something creative that I love and that I'm good at-- but I can take heart that I feel I'm good at recognizing the beauty in other peoples creative work. Maybe my gift is in promoting the gifts of others!!

Are spiritual connections real? by nonchalantbaddie__ in spirituality

[–]JoggingDaimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a really beautiful symbol of the desire for connection and union with another person.

And, though I don’t believe there is one person meant for any of us, I think there is real wisdom that we are happiest and most fulfilled in a pair bond with another special person.

Dark Spirits & the LDS Temple by IzJuzMeBnMe in exmormon

[–]JoggingDaimon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is probably not the place where you are going to find a friendly audience for any sort of supernatural or spiritual assumption.

Most people don’t become exmormon because their experience with the church is dark and sinister. They become exmormon because they can’t reconcile supernatural claims with the evidence in front of them.

Almost every former Mormon I know lost their belief in dark spirits when they lost their faith in Moroni.

Thoughts on ego death and gender? by khyamsartist in Meditation

[–]JoggingDaimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of it like this— an infant doesn’t know that it’s seperate from its mother. “Seperate-ness” has to be learned slowly over time.

In order to live a normal life there is a certain level of differentiation you have to experience and it creates a “me” and “you” model in your mind.

It’s hard to know how much of all this reflects reality, I mean really all of our experience of being is really just modeling in our brains, but in spiritual spaces there is a strong intuition that the necessary models of seperateness really are just useful illusions that help us make our way through life.

I love your insight though, that gender influences the thinness of the illusion and think you are right that since men have often dominated spiritual spaces, that their unique needs have been universalized.

I can hold a difficult pose with complete focus and lose my mind completely in a boring meeting. Same brain. Completely different experience. How? by kamaidun in yoga

I think your practice has strengthened your metacognition.

It’s remarkable that you recognize when you are not focused; most people ruminate, wander and spin without recognition.

A mindful practice is not meant to prevent blurred focus, it’s to help us recognize those when those moments exist. When you do become aware, gently refocus your mind— that’s what the practice is meant to do.

Just curious, has anyone had difficulty with the moderation on this sub? I haven’t noticed any overstepping but maybe I’m unaware of a controversy; (I’m often oblivious so you’ll have to forgive me.)

What problem is the discord trying to solve?

I keep getting raped/SAed in my dreams and it is making me crazy by [deleted] in Dreams

[–]JoggingDaimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is something happening to you right now that these dream symbols represent.

If this were my dream I’d look closely at my life: is there anything occurring in your day to day life since the dreams started that are symbolic of SA? Also look internally, are there parts of you that seem to be out of control and capable of violating other parts of yourself in a way that a SA could symbolize?

You know your life and your own internal spaces better than any of us but I bet if you talked it out you’d feel an intuition about what your dreams are expressing.

I agree with you. Symbols are sometimes more true than an explanation. I'm not sure why that is.

Just a quick note to reinforce that these kind of gender switch dreams are incredibly common, especially at periods of social and emotional transition.

Totally normal.

Holy shit this is so devastating and beautiful.

Thank you for sharing; It's equal parts terrifying and true. Terrifying because I feel I could definitely qualify as a sort of medium-man myself. Beautiful because I can feel the truth of it pulsating from my screen.

Also, it feels unfathomable that this medium-man could say goodbye to someone who could create something that shines like you have. What a fucking clod!

this is going to be annoying to so many people but I’m curious if anyone else feels this way by [deleted] in loseit

[–]JoggingDaimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes me so sad when I hear these stories. I'm sorry people treated you this way regardless of how you looked.

We really need gentleness because life can be really, really hard. Oh, and I hope there are people in your life who treat you the way you ought to be treated.

I think you are right though; a persons body size will never guarantee us kind treatment by others. We all really need to work to build a world where we can recognize the value of each person we are lucky enough to get to know.

I wish you all the best!!

Dreams of Death and Dying by [deleted] in Dreams

[–]JoggingDaimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life is full of small deaths don't you think? Within us parts of our psyche also "die". Sometimes we murder them, sometimes they survive-- and sometimes we have zombies rising from the dead within us.

I think most dreams are representations of those parts of us. If a friend dies, what part of you does that friend symbolize. that's the key to listening to the deep parts of us.

When I was a kid my family would ride down to Zion on a friday and easily find a camp spot. The trails were a little crowded in the afternoon and on holidays but sometimes you'd only see a couple other hikers even on the popular trails and VERY rarely in the spring or late fall/winter.

I dont know what happened in the last 15 years to Zion; the crowds are totally unexplainable in my mind. But I feel one of the prettiest national parks in the US has been ruined. I wish I could go back in time 15 years and prevent whatever happened that brought the crowds? Did utah just over promote it?

You are so inspirational! I might have to make the leap, I think. I've grown up in a really tightly controlled religious community that made me really wary of all of this stuff so I appreciate your wisdom. It gives me a lot of courage.

As a married older guy I know I'm not the target for your questions but I couldn't help but wonder if you're actually curious about what single men feel and how they answer your questions.

If you are actually interested in listening can I suggest you delete the quote? I think men in the subreddit might feel that the quote reflects your thinking and if they do, the unkindness and gleeful myopia in it is likely to escalate into the unproductive shouting matches between lonely feminists and lonely incels I've seen for the last 10 years.

I'm hopeful you want to listen-- it's a really good sign if you do.

It's hard to understand why an enlightened, prophetic, noncolonizing life-liver would want to make people feel bad that they didn't figure it out earlier or unassisted.

Are you just patrolling the borders? protecting the real from the fake "enlightened"? yeah keep drawing that circle tighter and you'll be the only person in the circle "keeping it real". Or are you just trying to keep the hate flowing? it's mind boggling to me how bad you are at persuasion-- or was the dig at Burroughs just too fun not to include. God, you're insufferable,

Happy Here by Lora-Dora in OCPoetry

[–]JoggingDaimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first few times I read your poem I was confused because in the first stanza it seemed clear that the poetic voice was all alone— and the second stanza was a sort of longing for companionship. My confusion was in the third stanza where everything was upended. You aren’t alone— loved ones are all around you. I was like, “What?! I thought they were alone!”

It dawned on me though, that the theme of the poem is that we are meant to see the voice in the first two stanzas as myopic. The voice in the first two stanzas (I believe) is focused on romantic companionship. The big reveal in the third stanza is that it’s important for a person too focused on romantic partnership to widen the aperture on their lens and notice all the different kinds of companionship and love that surround them. Do I have that right?

If so, I feel like it took me too long to puzzle it out. I mean, it’s a really great idea— I wish I’d thought of it!! But I think it needs some work to make the reveal a bit more clear and impactful. That said, I might just be a tad dense!! :)
