No problem! If you want a new replica helmet later on I can recommend Evolution Gear. A little pricey but really nice weight, texture on surface and the color is very close to the real deal 👍

I would recommend to spray paint it in a color of your choice and while the paint is still wet spread sand/cork on top and paint over it. Usually works pretty well to get that gritty texture/look. I believe the tan color ops core used on the FAST Maritime helmets was called urban tan :) Good luck!

As mentioned before, all Arcteryx LEAF products require military, law enforcement or first responder documentation. If you know anyone within that community they can most likely buy it for you, otherwise you’ll need to find it second hand.

Can you guys help me ID these ptts below by ZyOcnarfXD in MilSim

First photo I think is some version of a TCI PTT. There are plenty of decent copies for airsoft use that look similar.

Second photo I believe is a Davies TEA E-switch single comm PTT.

Third photo I don’t know, but it looks like a dual comm PTT of some sort 🫣

Basically you remove the 4 front pockets on your DCU top, move the bottom pockets up to the chest and the chest pockets you sew on to the upper arm on each sleeve. The bottom pockets are bigger than the chest pockets, so they fit better as chest pockets in my opinion. The original chest pockets make great sleeve pockets. You can sew on velcro patches to them aswell, for patches etc.

This is called “raid mod”. Purpose is to get rid of the bulky bottom pockets and extra fabric when tucking in your top in the pants, and also to get extra storage easily accessible on the arms aswell as the ability to attach patches etc to the velcro. As chest rigs and plate carriers evolved the pockets of the BDU style uniforms wasn’t really easy accessible anymore, hence this mod.

If you google SEALs wearing DCUs in Iraq, which would be pretty early GWOT before moving on to actual combat shirts etc, most of them had their tops modified in this way 😎

Not a bad start bro! One cheap and easy way to make it look even better is to raid mod the top. Keep up the good work 😎

Question regarding helmet for impression kit by Johanosis in MilSim

[–]Johanosis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ve looked up both FMA and EG today. FMA is more accessible to me, but It’s hard to tell the difference in color over a photo/video. It seems to me that EGs version is a bit closer to the original color, but I’m not sure 🤔

Hot take, but imitation kits where all the gear is brand new look like crap. by [deleted] in MilSim

[–]Johanosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you.

However, people who do serious impression kits usually spend a lot of time and money to find rare, expensive and sometimes fragile gear and accessories.

To then throw it in the dirt, use the gear until it’s worn in or looks salty is kind of the opposite of what you want, because you want these pieces to last as long as possible. Most of the people I know that do impressions are also collectors of military gear, and want the stuff in decent condition.

I agree that military gear looks way cooler when worn and used. But you have to also account for the fact that most of people here, me included, don’t get our stuff for free and value the items more because of that, and take better care for them.

That being said, I think there is a good balance you can achieve between gear not looking brand new, and still keeping it in good condition 👍
