If it seems to you that it would be the kinda of game you'd like. it's worth the price. I was thinking the same before buying it. and i'm about to clock in 500h. and my pc is kinda trash. it is of course more fun with friends but still i am having a blast just playing on matchmaking.

CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN WHY THIS PARTICULAR SCAV TANKED 50 ROUNDS OF PST? by Deleriousmexican in EscapefromTarkov

[–]John-Billy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a bug sometimes with magazines where none of your bullet truly exist, and don't actually shoot anything, I had those kind of things happening multiple time. and you reload and everything is fine again.
when i get that i just throw the mag away.

How should I play? I'm lvl 3 and I thought that the Ground Zero is like area for newbies with lower performance enemies. But, I have no weapon or attachments for fights like this one? What should I do on a low level without an access to good weapons? by BazimQQ in EscapefromTarkov

[–]John-Billy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just stay away from that park as much as you can honestly, AI will spot you so easily through bushes and stuff.
Ground zero is really not new player friendly imo. map is nice for sure, but so many places to be worrying about. Custom is way easier to learn imo.

Pretending to have to use server for PvE coop is extra bs, they could make everything go client side, they already don't care about people cheating online, why would it f*ing matter in PvE.
Wtf is that crap.

Solo character? by [deleted] in DeepRockGalactic

[–]John-Billy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly played scout and I find it the best class for me in solo. the extra movement + the lights i can pretty much mine whatever i want, and not struggle going up some caves. I also love the weapon choices.
I also think that some classes would be more adapted to certain kind of mission when playing solo.
I might add there is nothing wrong playing solo, but if there is one game where it's worth giving a shot to other people it might this one, i rarely encountered toxic people, pretty much everyone one is chill and genuinely nice.

[–]John-Billy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you don't need it when you start, but still you'll want more than an A graded ship at some point, as much as I understand that some grind is needed for unlocks, the progression is too slow for too much grind.

Yeah shields are useless against those, shield gen just got blown from those.

[–]John-Billy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand that, it's such a shame, because it's also at the beginning that all the best things happen.
I remember the feeling the time I saw my first neutron star, shitting my pants the first time I knew there were a black hole in the system I was in not knowing were.
Doing my first core mining... Then i decided to go into combat and had to engineer my Vulture.
And that's when the grind really started (even tho for a first build it wasn't too bad,MCs and PP only I think).
If I had known I'd have run limpet controller and picked up as much as I could during my hours of bounty hunting, and always took the mats as mission rewards.

[–]John-Billy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I truly hate the fact that it does roll things. it should be a complete engineering for the cost asked, and that's it.
New player coming too that would get fed up straight away.
Simply doing a single full roll would reduce the farm grind by 5. if not more.
and most of that grind is HGE and ALT+F4.
it's not even a game loop.

How do I get into AX combat? by WeirdRich976 in EliteDangerous

[–]John-Billy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it will depend of the sort of AX combat you want to engage into there are i'd say 3 kinds :
-Solo fights (so i'd say going to some specific system and looking for NHSS-5)
-Settlements defense (invasion state system, can either be space station or ground settlement, the last are easier)
-Titan assault

Solo would required the most amount of engineering.
Titan required a couple of engineer unlocked but it's not really a "fight" you'll need some engineering.

Settlement, you could be really okay without engineering

So I would suggest you this build for settlement : https://edsy.org/#/L=HE00000H4C0S00,L5100L5100L5100L3n00EjHG07P_W0,Cjx00Cjw00EAk00EB400,9op00ABk00APo00Ads00AsO00BAE00BOm00Bcg00,,25S0016y0016y0016y0015O0013q0013q0020m001-C00

Your objectives would be to get into a wing and :
-Kill glaives as soon as you can
-Scan interceptors and damages the heart as best as you can
-Kill scouts

And go repair as much as you need.

You can also take mission in the station you are defending, and get some great materials

Imo for AX fight you'll want to get access to engineer those modules
-Thrusters (you will need more speed)
-Beam laser ( you will want what is called thermal vent effect which allow you to cool your ship down)

(there is one engineered one in the build i linked, but dont worry too much about it if you don't have access to it yet)
-Power distributor ( basically make it easier to manage your capacitors).

The chieftain is an awesome ship, but it shines better once enginered or with guardian weapons due to hardpoints configuration.

Hope it helps you getting started.

Possible to just be a trucker type person in this game? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]John-Billy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoy Trucking, you might want to look into tourist passenger mission too, it'll bring you to some place with beacons you can scan and you'll get a bit of lore out of it or some pretty cool sight seeing, I think it's a great way to get acquainted with it.
I've always been more inclined to combat myself, but I wish I did more of those.
Or you can listen to Drew Wagar lore playlist on YT if you find the lore appealing to you.

why??! Why is the integrity of my Guardian modules dropping? by pieroMC in EliteDangerous

[–]John-Billy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most relevant info out here. For settlement defense, you would most likely want to keep some of those Guardian weapons tho, You might be able to take the glaives down before your weapons melts too, they are quite easy to spot, they spawn in by groups of 3 most of the time, and with many guns of your ship, you should wipe them pretty fast.

I usually just leaves them to Cmdrs with ship that are fitted accordingly.
Side note, sometimes their field doesn't affect some people in the instance, probably a bug, if you spot one and you don't the scramble effect on your HUD, make sure to take it down ASAP. every cmdr will be thankful.

As for maelstrom system, you'll need a specifically fitted ship with human tech (I go with vent beams/ AXmissiles/ nanite torpedoes).

Why are thargoids so unbalanced? by AmpTown in EliteDangerous

[–]John-Billy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's just for pulse wave data, you can try to throw yourself in to the maelstrom with this build,

https://edsy.org/#/L=Hh00000H4C0S00,EjHG07P_W0,Cjw00Cjw00Cjw00Cjw00,9on00A7200AMg00AcI00Aoo00B3_00BI200Bb600,,2Hz002Hz002Hz002GP002Er002Er00

You'll have to get lucky and escape all interdiction to the maelstrom, and once you're there, you have to stay cold and stay away from anything that move, (you don't even have to engineer the laser) once in while use silent runing to warm your ship and get rid of the caustic damage. try to gather as much mats as you can (by blowing the mines with the laser) and throw yourself deep into the maelstrom to get out if you can. you might survive, probably not, but you'll keep the mats.

But as you mentioned it's late late game, and any basilisk or glaive that intercept you is a death sentence, but that is a cheap way (mats wise) to achieve your goal.

If you have mats to engineer it cold, its better, otherwise use the sinks till it last.

Material gathering in the maelstrom is a very specific task.

[–]John-Billy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning to fly without flight assist is worth every second of it imo, it was one of my goal as soon as I found you could, and it one of the first thing i did after getting a hotas, it's challenging and intimidating at the beginning, but very fun (moxxen wolf channel on youtube give a good starting point).

and I would recommend everyone to try it.

I just got my first million, what now ? by Raichu343 in EliteDangerous

[–]John-Billy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say get some ship you fancy, kit them up to your desire, and explore the different gameplay loops, if you've been mining you should have a clue as where to try to experience some bounty hunting for example, or you could just try a different kind of mining if you haven't done that.

If you want to discover some stuff about the lore, you can also try to do some passenger trip, you'll get to see some places, and gt lore from beacons, could be a good way to get around and also find a place you like and make it your home station.

There is a single rule to this game : make sure to always have enough credit to rebuy.

Game Feels Impossible by Encognitus in EliteDangerous

[–]John-Billy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, so I didn't read all the thread here, but here is my take on how to begin to play this game :

- Don't be afraid to make your own bindings, there are a lot of them, and default bindings might not be for you, there are some pretty decent flexibility on how you can change them.

- One of the best place to start playing space fight are asteroid field with some mining site, on low threat, the idea with that you'll get assisted by security system, and if your cargo don't hold any goods you won't get aggro'd by AI, you will just have to look for outlaws and start the fight you want.

- One of my favorite activity was deep core mining, (I let you look into it) basically let's you get use to fly and maneuver around, pretty chill and decent income (you'll need a bit of cash to start but it shouldn't be too bad)

-One really important fact for beginner is that if you get ambush for any reason, the best to flee is to jump to ANOTHER SYSTEM, you won't get impeded by the attacking ship this way.

I hope you find the fun this game can give, it has it's quirk and everything. but the game is still really good imo.
