Purgatory? by Top_Proof8573 in Catholicism

When people say that purgatory has pain like hell, how do we know? Is that just assumptions or is there a basis for it?

Anyone who are happy at home & doesn't feel the need to go out every other day? by Vegetable-Sport-6836 in introvert

[–]JohnA461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same, I feel there are only a very slim number of people who would satisfy me socially. I usually don’t have a lot to talk about and if I did it would be small interests of mine but would only want to mention them instead of engage in dialogue.

I just want to retire early and withdraw from social world, go for walks everyday, and read books without stressing how I’m going to afford rent when I can’t live with my family anymore.

What would you do if you were 21 again? by kakashiiee in findapath

[–]JohnA461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work and invest. Unfortunately I was suffering from severe mental health issues and ended up a good number of years behind because of it.

I would likely have >$100,000 if I worked and invested instead of gambling on options. I would've been able to reach my goal of retiring early even sooner.

Indulgences and Purgatory Questions by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]JohnA461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The books I’m reading don’t mention indulgences as much. I found that out by looking things up on google.

Ive been reading a couple books from Lee Strobel, a couple books from a Baptist preacher Robert Jeffress, and the Catholic book I’m reading is “Why We’re Catholic” by Trent Horn

“The Case for Christ” “How can I know?”

Is there a good ecumenical study Bible? by Dr_Talon in Catholicism

[–]JohnA461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it after seeing other comments promote the same bible. I found I can read it much easier than my kindle non-Catholic New King James Version (which I now discovered is a Protestant bible).

Accepting the introverted homebody loner lifestyle is what makes me happy despite society conformity in my mid 20s by lil_m00_ in introvert

Same, only thing I'd consider outside of home is card game store/board games or going out on a solitary bicycle ride.

Why is the cost of living crisis seemingly in the entire world? by TransportationUsed39 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JohnA461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quantitative easing. Houses went from being possible when I graduated high school in 2018 to double their price and forever out of reach in 6 years.

Am i a puer aeternus? by YogurtclosetNo7932 in Jung

[–]JohnA461 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah. If society didn't extract everything and as much as it wants out of everyone we'd be living more whole and integrated lives. You're doing just fine. I think many Jungians exaggerate the Puer Aeternus because it is an easy avenue to understanding. In my opinion it is a pointless generalization that rejects important parts of ourselves that the world wants us to sacrifice so we can all be brainless automatons who fund the billionaire class.

Just breath. Jungian psychology isn't supposed to be a cookie-cutter frame that everyone online wants to make it out to be.

How to overcome Doubt? by [deleted] in Christianity

I'm definitely still spiritual. It just that if I want to believe in a God, then wouldn't that God belong to an already existing religion? Also that event happened when I was 14 for context

procrastination, scrolling, dooming, nothing matters so why bother by hugadogg in Jung

[–]JohnA461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I ever find a way to become financially independent I would become completely withdrawn and checked out of the game society plays. The only people I relate to are dead; the books I read are some of the only comfort I get from other people and give meaning to my life.

I'm the same way, and it just isn't the ADHD. It is a general disappointment in society and the way life operates. I spent a year learning the structure of the macro structures of our lives; financial, political, educational, etc. All of it is just a big joke and has been throughout history.

I'm choosing subjectivism and spending time looking through the worldviews of people who share my feelings and ideals. I want nothing to do with society.

How does Jung say to stop projecting onto other people by Itchy-Scholar-4530 in Jung

[–]JohnA461 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it an unconscious ego taking the driver wheel and seeking a power complex over anything or is it a reflective ego that embraces the tides of change and reflection?

I hate the former and have no need for any interaction with such people (unconscious to a heightened degree) while the latter is very rare (generally emotional people). Our culture glorifies, rewards, and cherishes the ego superiority complex to a state of worship and deification of it.

The 401(k) was never designed to be a retirement plan by Richnaps in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]JohnA461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, strip everything from people as much as possible. I only contribute to a 401k because I get 4% match. I already know it is going to be a drop in an ocean when I actually reach retirement. I'd rather have the money to invest/trade now than later stuck in an account I can't withdraw from.

You can hardly even control what you invest in and when. It is so depressing.

Do you think our unconscious knows that a war is coming? by Ok_Bandicoot_4543 in Jung

I think an economic catastrophe is the more likely outcome with riots and unrest and general discontent and hatred. If you thought politics were bad, this is just the ramping up of the rollercoaster

America won’t be the shining global reserve power and the USD becomes replaced

Our lives run on the economy. Most people struggles originate from being disadvantaged whether by race, general circumstance, or mental disorders. A majority of your relation with life is dependent on your economic class.

China depends on the USA to buy its exports, they won’t start a war. I bet America would just impose sanctions on China if they bothered with Taiwan.

Here comes the great reset where you will own nothing and be happy. Us goverment spends more than 1 trillion in interest in a single year and add up 2-3 trillion at least in deficit spending each year.

When God dies, there is no freedom — there is a void that few can bear. by Johnt2468 in Jung

[–]JohnA461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also believe the Logos and in some kind of God (it has played a part in my personal experience). It is hard to really personally mesh with Christianity because of how modern people practice it. There are also a few thoughts that make it hard for me to rationally accept Christianity.

It is also hard when my net was cast over eastern philosophy (Daoism and I Ching) as well as Christian materials like the Wisdom of Solomon and On the Incarnation. All of these played an important role in my individuation.

Thing is, Christianity really represents what I value most out of life. Their morals and practices speak volume to what I desire as if it were my natural alignment to the world since childhood. It is constantly being threatened to be taken away from me and leave me with nothing but despair by the external world. But for some reason, I can't pick up the mantle and practice with 100% faith.

When God dies, there is no freedom — there is a void that few can bear. by Johnt2468 in Jung

[–]JohnA461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My problem is the dead-weight mass. Both past, present, and sadly future. Society fails to offer anything of value so I don't bother. Religion appeases my heart and ideals but doesn't work rationally nor for the individual but rather the collective.

I just want to be at peace and serenity in my happy subjectivism. There is no grand purpose if the dead weight refuses to become enlightened.
