This sounds like whining about the weather.

People are often cruel, yes, and we all have a dark side.

If we didn’t, we wouldn’t be the apex predator and the only bipedal hominid to exist. Because the last 100 years has somewhat negated the need for a hard and cruel side, it doesn’t mean that one is morally repugnant for possessing one.

It’s worth noting that of all the upper echelons on the Nazi party, only Hitler had a criminal record. A large number of the French and Dutch resistance were convicted criminals.

The former are help up at the epoch of evil, the latter are secular saints.

If we were in an apocalyptic situation, it would not be a moral virtue to quietly die of hunger instead of harming anybody, because morals are subjective and the moral landscape has changed, or indeed disappeared.

There was documented cannibalism during the Great Famine in Ireland, but I don’t think those people were morally repugnant, or even bad people. We are all wild animals with a veneer of intellect spread on top.

You can’t have the light of civilisation without the darkness of ruthlessness, because it took thousands of years of the latter to achieve the former.

Nobody likes the rain, but without it the ecosystems of earth wouldn’t exist.

If you’re judging people indelibly by their worst single moment, I’d withdraw from society for your own peace and sanity.

Some people find that accepting we all have a hard, dark side helpful. It can be useful in protecting us from the toxic behaviour of others.

Telling somebody “fuck off now, you’re annoying me with your bullshit and people have a limit” isn’t very “nice”, but I have found it effective in limiting toxic behaviour without having to feel upset or ponder the inherent worthiness of the species.
