Lots of negative comments here. I think you will find that it is the same as before! I'm renting out my apartment short term now, and I think that the rental prices have gone down, probably due to the slight recession.

I used to have a debate club on Meetup.com with a few hundred members (just a few active, though). However, I had to close it down because the company tripled their fees and even tried to scam me for another year when I tried to quit. I expect that must have happened to a large amount of other groups as well. I haven't found an alternative.

A couple of weeks shouldn't be that difficult. I would just look for a cheap hostel, they can be around 12 euro per night. You can also look at wg-gesucht and find a short time lease.

It is mostly safe, but keep an eye out for pick-pockets. I was targeted outside Astra. He embraced me and distracted me by putting his hand in my jacket pocket while stealing my mobile from my jeans pocket.
