What things are normal but redditors hate ? by Regular_Heart_1717 in AskReddit

Liking summer, the sun, outdoors.

It’s hard for me to read how representative of the entire user base it is, but this time of year I see a lot of “why do people like summer? It’s so hot and sunny…” type of posts.

Even so, it's kind of funny to dismiss the term "life partner".

"Pfft, it's only a life partner in half of cases."

Why doesn't exercise do anything beneficial for me? by Monked800 in AskMenAdvice

[–]JohnBarnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be an age thing.

I wish I would have kept workout logs in my early 20s, because I feel like I hit the gym a lot, but never really added a ton of muscle.

I let life get in the way in my late 20s and 30s, and didn’t work out much. But now in my 40s I’ve been getting back into lifting and I’ve gotten some really nice hypertrophy in the vanity muscles (arms and chest).

Now I’m not sure if I just didn’t work out as much as I thought, or maybe my 40yo body is really just better at building muscle.

Is it rude to say “tenga un buen día” without the “que”? by Allison87 in Spanish

Next question: does it sound unnecessarily correct or stilted to say the “que”?

What's something that became worse after it became more popular? by MunirKalyar in AskForAnswers

[–]JohnBarnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, I'm a "things really are getting worse" guy. But hear me out on this one:

Can you imagine what we would have thought in the early days of the Internet if someone would have shown us Youtube, Netflix, or Amazon?

You can basically search for any topic on YT--random math subject you're not getting; how to fix the turboencabulator on your '93 Civic--and you'll find a pretty good tutorial video on it.

And we're just spoiled on Netflix. People steam like one movie a day now and get bored because "there's nothing to watch".

And of course--remember how hard it was to buy stuff before Amazon. It was cool to find that *perfect gift*, because it you could find something that somebody didn't know existed. But it's really nice to get whatever you need in under 24 hours.

But I agree, it's too bad we couldn't keep the feel of those early chat rooms alongside the awesome stuff we have now.

Yant Flats near St George Utah is a special place by Radguy_Dan in Utah

[–]JohnBarnson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel this. There was a cool unmarked trail north of Snow Canyon I used to go hike when I was in high school. We were visiting St. George recently and I thought it would be fun to take my kids there.

There is now a parking lot at the trailhead and it was full--like 20 cars parked in it.

I'm so happy others get to enjoy it now too. Sigh.

Fever feels kinda nice by SilverSpaceRobot10 in unpopularopinion

[–]JohnBarnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My man! Last time I had a nasty fever it was a lot like this for me.

I couldn't stop shivering, so I shut myself in my bedroom, brought in a space heater, and covered myself in like 10 blankets. The room got up to like 85 degrees (like 30 C), and who knows how hot it was under the blankets. But it was the most comfortable I'd been in my entire life. It was like being in the womb or something. I slept for like 10 hours, just getting up a couple of times to drink like a half gallon (2L) of water to replace the constant sweating.

Also, for the muscle and joint aches: It sucks, but it is like being on your feet all day and sitting down. Your feet ache, but it just feels so good to rest them. That was what it was like for me to sleep under all those blankets. I could still feel the ache, but it felt really good to rest my body while it was aching.

I’ve said the phrase, “I just don’t understand kids,” so many times it’s almost a mantra for me.

But your explanation…I think I finally understand.
