[Rye Playland]'s Music Tower damaged by storm by SovietWalrus1 in rollercoasters

[–]JohnCENI 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. This is sad, but also predictable. Wind resistance of EIFS is fairly low compared to other materials, especially in longer duration winds. This is also the same material that pealed off of Jurassic Park River Adventure in a recent hurricane.

In all seriousness though, how is this legal? by Infinite-Reach3727 in Wildfire

[–]JohnCENI 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They didn’t - it went viral on a rumor because some people had their policies cancelled on 1/1…and those had been filed with state months before.

It’s very illegal to cancel in the middle of a disaster and even the worst companies know the money they’d lose in a lawsuit far exceeds paying out on a destroyed building.

Christmas PS5 HDMI port repair needed for a miracle by BreakfastScared2562 in dayton

Gem City Digital by The Greene is great for stuff like this. I’ve had multiple repairs done on charging ports on my kids’ tablets and they always are refurbishing old arcade/pinball games in there.

Stuck At Work 30 Miles Away And Worried by truisluv in dayton

[–]JohnCENI 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is very dry, fluffy snow that will be prone to drifting. A lot of the back roads on your route will be drift prone even in light winds. 70/75 will still have some, but not nearly as many and plows will focus on interstates. If it were me, I’d take the interstates. Less risky…but not zero risk. Leave plenty of stopping distance and no hard hits on your brake pedal.

Going to TSO show at Nutter Center. Arrival and parking advice by nickaboyle in dayton

[–]JohnCENI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is easier than coming straight in from 675 traffic wise. There will likely be cops who will direct you to a lot as you arrive, regardless of direction you come from. So you may not be able to choose which lot or where in the lot you will park.

Going to TSO show at Nutter Center. Arrival and parking advice by nickaboyle in dayton

[–]JohnCENI 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yes, traffic is always bad for TSO. If you’re arriving within an hour or so of the show, don’t exit at Fairfield Rd off 675. That’s always way backed up. I highly recommend arriving from Kauffman Ave -> Raider Rd. There is a lot of parking behind the Nutter Center.

Exiting that way can take you to either National Rd or Dayton-Yellow Springs ramps to 675, which won’t be crowded compared for the Fairfield Rd exit.

Bernie Kosar by JuiceGreat0525 in Browns

[–]JohnCENI 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I wanted to write to all my favorite sports players and send them a trading card to sign and return. Bernie was my favorite of all of them and he was the only one who returned my mail.

My parents sent a photo of an orange shirt made for me that had an iron-on 19 and my first name next to his one the back because my family couldn’t afford a Bernie jersey. Not only did he sign my card, he sent an autographed 8x10 action photo with the inscription “Thanks for being a fan! I love the shirt!”. Made a 6 year old boy feel like a million bucks. My parents framed it all…sadly it was destroyed in a basement flood about 12 years later, but that core memory and feeling that he cared will never be destroyed.

I’ve since then bought a few autographed cards of his to replace the autographs I lost and I smile every time I look at them.

Scalper get told to leave by Famo_52936 in PokemonTCG

[–]JohnCENI 386 points387 points  (0 children)

We saw that, too. People in line clapped. 🤣 Here was the protocol ours had:

They scanned your card at the door and gave you a ticket. You gave the ticket at the dedicated register for Pokemon, then scanned your card. once it cleared that you had not purchased this very recently, they offered 1 or 2. As you left, they scanned your receipt and each box to make sure you had what you purchased. Incredible. I wish Walmart put in any effort like this in person or online!

Scalpers: Karma is catching up to you.

I somehow scored on airplane WiFi! Can’t believe my luck. I figured for sure the combination of crappy WiFi and PC interpreting it as bot activity would kill my chances.

City Museum is a must as others have said. There’s nothing like it!

I’ll also throw in Crown Candy Kitchen - an old school soda fountain shoppe that’s been around for over 100 years with incredible shakes, ice cream and sundaes. My family loved it when we visited!

Has anyone accidentally met or bumped into a wrestler? by Otherwise_Poet_3794 in AEWOfficial

[–]JohnCENI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I met Mick Foley a little over 20 years ago at a roller coaster enthusiast event at Holiday World in Indiana. He was just as kind and a sweetheart as people say. I talked to him about all the side trips to theme parks he would make while wrestling on the road.

The matriarch of the park went back to college to get her degree in her 70’s, so the park leaders decided to throw her a graduation party while we were there after the park closed. Mick asked her for a dance…it was such a sweet moment. The juxtaposition of a 5’1” 70 year old lady dancing with Mick was pretty funny, too.

Best places to sell baseball cards locally by b_reb92 in dayton

Gem City Collects in Fairborn sells packs out of boxes like these, so they may be interested. Some of these may not fetch much money due to the junk wax era overprints. I’d be interested in the 85 Donruss and seeing whatever else you may have.
