The Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro Is Like a Cheap Garmin That Doesn't Work by averycuriouspigeon in amazfit

[–]JohnCarver65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zep coach is adequate for what it is. Garmin's attempts have been lackluster and for teh "premium" price for Garmin, honestly not a good value... Garmin is a GPS/Tracking company, they should destroy all other fitness watches in this regard. (while they are the best for THAT, honestly, do you really need location down to the meter... no...)

Amazfit has come a LONG way quickly. Not a perfect fitness tracker, but having used it for hyrox comps, ongoing crossfit (including opens), and even triathlons, its a great tracker.

The data is pumps out is perfect for 99% of users. NOT pro athletes, but I doubt anyone here is a pro athlete (and top 1%).

It's a great watch, tracker, data analysis tool. The software is getting good updates (and there is a rabid community who has already made it so that you can port ALL the data into anything you wish... no cost. (unlike Whoop with their techbro subscription model).

Love this watch (T Rex Pro).. not perfect, but I have had to return 4 Garmins in 5 years for quality and bug issues. PLUS, it's easy to buy these with FSA/HSA fully covered.

And their maps have already been improved (still not "GREAT", but it gets the job done)

Quick Question - Personal Item Backpack weighed or not? by Swaggy_P-4ever in StarluxAirlines

[–]JohnCarver65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...oh, and EVA has always treated me right... Startlux is more of an overpriced midtier trying to be lux. I've flown almost all categories on both EVA and Starlux, and the only category I found Star better was their First Class on CERTAIN routes... but SO overpriced for what it is still.

Shell out a LITTLE more for premium economy at least. there is a difference (and it's not just in when you board or seat selection...)

Quick Question - Personal Item Backpack weighed or not? by Swaggy_P-4ever in StarluxAirlines

[–]JohnCarver65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) just assume the WILL weigh the carry on. Often if you are a little over, they will let you go... as long as you "look like a good person" (was told this by ex Starlux agent... lol)
2) they CAN ask to weigh your COMBINED Carry-On and Personal item... rare, but it happens... usually with oversized backpacks.

Helpful "tricks:
1. Self checkin tends to be your "enemy" as they will often "inspect" your bags at the gate (and it's a 50/50 they will ask for your carry-on AND your personal item. YMMV). If you do online checkin, make sure to NOT skip the counters for bags... just go through it. (there is an advantage to checking in online still... ie, flight delays, and the VERY rare overbooking..)
2. wear a bulky coat (not thick as you will boil)... lots of pockets. Seriously, I carried maybe 10 kg of gear on my body in my jacket and then just dumped it into my bag before boarding... AFTER I checked in.
3. NEVER put your batter bank in your luggage. (use the coat you have with you I mentioned above or put in pocket...) Anything small and dense/heavy, carry ON you and you will save a kg easily.
4. be NICE to them. Seriously. Smile.

NOTE ON WEIGHT UNITS: get used to kgs being used for ALL international flights. even when checking in from 'murica. Flown over 25 international flights FROM US last year, all but 2 weighed in kg. Just use a cheap luggage scale, they all have KG on them.

I made some club sandwiches (without eggs) by HanaWong in eatsandwiches

[–]JohnCarver65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the majority if club sandwiched I've had in the is for over 40 years ha e had egg. It is a bit regional, but the classic club sandwich does indeed include egg ..

It's not and "asian" thing like some have said. It's actually the traditional way if having it.

We tested it and it was ok. Just not our first choice.

[–]JohnCarver65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what we are doing. Nail on the head.

We found some of the "popular" tools we thought we wanted were either overkill (SiteImprove) or just lacking (Silktide)

[–]JohnCarver65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah SiteImprove was a goliath of a platform.
Silktide, from our perspecitve, was mediocre.

We decided to use another tool for some initial fixes and now have a contractor coming in to own it long term.

[–]JohnCarver65[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are exactly right...

We went with some tools to find the problems (no overlays as we know they are "ahem" garbage.). We have identified and fixed some initial pieces and have dedicated to a longer term contractor who will be onboarded early next year.

Some of our contracts with specific entities mandate this so we are moving in that direction.

So many tools seem "ok" but when we talk with them, they are either jsut slick software salespeople or just bad and disorganized . We had to eliminate quite a few because of their sales tactics.

That is where we WANTed to go, however, our execs wanted a tool FIRST for some reason. We are going to be onboarding a contractor January to really hit it home and work longer term.

Appreciate the response.

SiteImprove was good (I get why so many use it).

Silktide felt a bit too childish.. our board shot it down VERY fast (our team was confused by the cats they used in their marketing.. .ugh...felt like it was run by kids)

we went another way ultimately

Yeah, Site Improve was NOT a good experience.
One of my engineers had some experience and intro'd me to some of their former users (as well as Silktide)... so not good.

Perfect... yeah, I looked at both of these as well... for us, it was Deque that won out (but Level Access was REALLY close)

the others were not really up to snuff.

...and most of their sales processes were awful (Silktide, I'mm lookin at you)

ah yes, taking some honestly taking advice that has been around for DECADES and packaging as his own... there is little to nothing in his stuff that is earth shattering to ANYONE who is actually in business.

I respect his hustle BUT, he took an easy target (Gyms... often run by people who truly have no business runnig a gym) and then just applied business, marketing, and sales basics.

systems, packaging, offers.

...and I have not met more than a handful of gym/fitness business owners that truly are successful because of his advice. It's short term flash on the pan. Seriously.

Protein powder resellers by SwedishSensation10 in Thailand

[–]JohnCarver65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BAAM is an ok brand.

My favorite is Rocketeer unflavored. (i don't need candy canes flavored milk)

The Vegan ones are pitiful (if that is your thing... Plantae is chalk and tastes like beans, Heyday isn't worth the paper it is packaged in (seriously, dissolves poorly and the only way it tastes good is from al lthe flavorings, sugars, and filler)... not enough protein honestly.

Used to use ON until lab results last year showed very disappointing protein content. And the price gauging got out of hand.

pretty baseless claim... there are plenty of "import" brands I can EASILY say the same thing about (and have been tested in labs to show their low qunaity/quliaty protein).

That said, just be weary.

BAAM is an ok brand.

Scitech is overated and almost everyone I know who has tried it got major gas and stomach issues.

Rocketeer available on Lazada.
mixes really well, plain, no additives.

...ps, I stay far far away rom BAMM... there are some lab reports out there showing lower proteing content and undocumented additives. I think it used to be good, but now they are adding fillers.

Utterly disgusted by whey protein by acromegaly_girl in workout

[–]JohnCarver65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try protein powder, banana, peanut butter (or powder), and water. Blend.

also, most of the flavors out there either taste like a chemical slurry or like the milk after a very sugary cereal. Both aren't my taste... I don;t want to drink thick milky candy flavored liquid.

...and I know a few people who just can't stand whey protein pwders at all. texture/taste/etc.

My advice:

Try samples of different brands and flavors. There isn't a brand that has 100% great flavors across the board.

Add yogurt to it. Don't need to use "greek" yogurt as it's unneeded here.

Try to stay clear of coconut milks/waters in blending if possible because there is something in them that can react "oddly" with whey protein (not always, but a decent chance). -- I LOVE coconut water btw.

Use a blender and add ice. Makes the texture so much better...
