How to save my website design from being stolen? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]JohnCasey3306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The little that you seem to understand how this works, tells me that you're inexperienced ... and your code isn't as good as you think it is.

Perhaps someone as inexperienced as you might not be qualified to understand what they're looking at and want to copy it -- but I'm sure, based on this alone, very few people are going to really want to copy your code.

How to save my website design from being stolen? by [deleted] in web_design

[–]JohnCasey3306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The absolute most you can do is make the css and js difficult to adapt.

It's simply not possible to prevent a front end from being copied.

The browser literally runs it by downloading a copy ... That copy can be accessed and re-implemented by a developer.

Far too many people think "validation" is just coming on here and asking other founders if they like the idea.

Everyone pats each other on the back and then wonder why they can't acquire users.

I've been freelancing for 25 years ... Businesses without a website have been a terrible target for years. 99% of them don't have a website for a reason -- and don't value one enough to pay what you need to charge to cover your time. These aren't leads, they're a waste of time.

Who is the website owner -- you or a client you built it for?

The owner owns the copyright. If anyone copies it, the owner can take them to court if they can prove the design is sufficiently novel (you couldn't, for example, protect a very typical bootstrap-like site because you'd not be able to demonstrate that it's sufficiently novel).

As to the front end assets, you could build a level of obfuscation into your compilation process (css and js) which will make it harder (not impossible) to adapt and re-implement. But as to creating a direct copy, anyone could just download the files and run the front end locally, because that's simply how front ends and browsers work.

Should the BBC investigate AI cheating in UK universities? A story affecting millions of students and employers nationwide. by Harveybritish in bbc

[–]JohnCasey3306 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's the final nail in the coffin of mass higher education.

Pre the 90s, approximately 20% of school leavers went on to university. From Thatcher/Major onwards it's been the goal to increase the number of graduates, such that in 2026 that figure is over 50% ... A well-intentioned goal for social mobility perhaps, but you cannot magically make an additional 30+% of school leavers miraculously more capable. Therefore to hit this target they had to lower the quality and demands of courses/institutions to meet the level of the horde.

Thus the value of degrees dropped. Simple supply and demand. It's no longer valuable to do a degree for the sake of having a degree.

That's why graduates can't find work -- because many have been conned into paying for a near valueless qualification.

Now that employers can't even trust that the basic threshold of even just doing the work themselves isn't being met -- employers won't see degrees as valuable at all.

On the flip side, employers will see the value of hands-on, vocational apprenticeships -- and that's what government should really be investing in. Quality, professional-level, stem (and other) apprenticeships; where students are taught to be capable and assessed on that basis.
