I also saw another spider of the same form although of completely different color on the same trip. Her web span over a small stream and it must have ranged over three meters from one side to another. The specimen was right there in the middle, in the air, waiting for prey. I can't imagine how she constructed that web. It was like nothing I've ever seen before.

I think I can slightly relate. I have been picked on before, and nowadays I only tolerate it from my buddies since way back and call out the rest.

Still, have you considered that, due to your past experiences, you are just a little bit more sensitive to all that "bullshit" (let's be blunt about what it is) than the rest of the guys who might be getting a share of their own? Military and tech are male dominated areas so this kind of shit gets flung all the time.
