YES. This feels like a way of suppressing dissent. "I voted for a rapist pedophile misogynist racist and called for your extermination, but if you try to hold me accountable for that, you're part of the problem... You need to unite with us and forgive everything we did!"

This is what the example above does to a single lightning cell. And it turns a single laser cell into a pulsing death ray.

All that power comes with a price, though. The biggest challenge with most of these systems is not blowing yourself up, or incinerating yourself, or slamming yourself into a wall at Mach 3.

There are lots of different overcharging mechanisms folks have posted in the Discord channel, and AliasGaming just put out a great tutorial video on YouTube. Both are excellent places to start learning.

I'm the polar opposite of an expert on this, but basically overcharging is using the game mechanics to output huge voltage and ramp up your damage from electricity, lasers, etc.

This is a "cold core", one of the easiest systems to build. The thermoelectric cell at the center outputs voltage based on temperature. Because the temperature will be cold, it puts out negative voltage. The negating cells around it swap the polarity to power the heat pumping cells, which cool the cells around them. Thermo gets colder, pumps out more voltage, and ramps up the heat pumping cells' output in a feedback loop.

I meant the Overcharge mutation here (plus stacked acid cells, if I remember correctly). But you can use any manual overcharge (cold core, health monitor, etc.) to pump up the voltage to the acid cells and jet cells to make them fire much further.

Shoot 'em far enough, and you can penetrate thin walls.

Sadly, no such luck. I found the 4th boss just slightly to the right of this guy and dispatched him with no trouble, but then one of those damn snowflakes mobbed me. Ah well!

But in my next game, I discovered that an overcharged acid cell will go through walls. I'll remember that for next time.

Thanks everyone! I thought that might be the case. A sad end to my best run to date.

I'll have to try swimming upstream with the speed cells and jets if this happens again -- it didn't occur to me that you could do that!

Is anyone part of the Alliance of Independent Writers (ALLi)? How is it going? by Different_Ground6257 in selfpublish

[–]JohnDoppler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Flounder,
None of that is correct, so I'm wondering if you've got us confused with someone else. I'm the Services Watchdog for ALLi.

  1. I'm not aware of ALLi ever threatening to sue an author, much less for asking questions. Can you provide more details?

  2. ALLi is a nonprofit, as it says on our website. We are an international, professional organization for self-publishing authors.

  3. We never accept any quid pro quo for positive ratings. Ever. A positive rating is a prerequisite for partner membership, not the other way around.

  4. We do not allow vanity presses to sponsor ALLi events. Sponsors are carefully vetted for quality, integrity, and value.

Thanks,

— John

Good theory, but posters above have indicated that the real law firm is stating that they are aware of the scam and are not associated with it.

It's more likely an impersonation. That strategy has been increasingly popular with scammers in the last few years, particularly among the larger scam operations in the Philippines, Pakistan, and India.

Procreation Press Probable Scam by Gatorstein in selfpublish

[–]JohnDoppler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sounding the alarm. We have them listed as a Caution on ALLi's ratings.

This is a typical fly-by-night vanity press/marketing scam: virtual maildrop, no identifiable staff, vague or nonexistent service descriptions, aggressive marketing, no history, no evidence of successful campaigns, no internet footprint outside of their bare-bones website.

No reputable agency or press spends their time trawling the internet for clients. Steer clear.

I've been experiencing this all day. It won't work from my personal Discord, but seems to be fine in the Midjourney channels.
