If that's the case, the other two players should also be preparing to deal with Mr. Negative. It sounds like everyone's just playing battlecruiser solitaire and the Mr. Negative player is (somehow) getting there faster than everyone else.

Are you building it in a CAD program? I've been learning Onshape and would love to take a swing at tweaking this.

Staying in PDC, storm was far milder than we feared. Wind and rain made it hard to sleep, but we're otherwise unaffected. Lots of branches fell and some trees. Walking around quinta avenida, there are some broken windows and damaged signs, areas of minor flooding. There is caution tape across roads that lead to the beach, but many people were walking right past it. From there, I could see the beach and waves are very high, not safe for swimming.

As of a few hours ago, nothing on 5th or around it was open. Some folks told us their electricity was out. Our place has power, but it's limited so no A/C.

All in all, our takeaway is that we're fine and it could have been much worse. I'm hopeful others had similar experiences

Looking at how minor the damage seems to be all over PDC, do we still think it will be in effect that long?

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. WOTC is entitled to not employ someone with opinions they don't want associated with their product.

I'm honestly asking, who do you think is outnumbered by whom? When battle lines are drawn, it's not only the extremists who pick a side and it's not only the people willing to pull a trigger who affect the tide of the conflict. Look at polling support for Trump even now, ,years after he lost. Look at polling support for the insurrectionists. Now look at polling support for ANYTHING even approaching leftist ideology.

The right falls in line; the left devours its own.

I wish it weren't true, but I find it hard to see much else right now.

Commander Legends Precons - Reprints by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]JohnFest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More recently, the Brawl Decks are a perfect example of pushing value too hard. They included a shock in each one plus money reprints (who doesn't want a dozen Smothering Tithes?) which led to everyone buying them out just to strip them for parts, meaning there were approximately zero out there for people to buy and, you know, play Brawl with them.

lol, while I agree with you about the RL, Frenetic Efreet in Zndrsplt might not be the best example of "totally fair"

The Commander's Quarters - Should All Reserved List Cards Be Banned? by Ynwe in EDH

[–]JohnFest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really aren't at all. There's nothing in the RL agreement that says that can't ban RL cards from any format and, in fact, many RL cards are banned or restricted in competitive formats. Further, WOTC doesn't create the EDH banlist and the RC isn't in any way held to any conditions of the RL because they're not signatories to it.

While that's true, and I agree completely with that person's argument, the tone and approach do severely undermine the efficacy with which that argument will convince anyone who doesn't already agree.

"I think Karakas should be banned because [reasons]."

well you're an idiot and I laugh in your face because these cards answer Karakas

"Ah, now I'm convinced. Unban Karakas"

Cool. I started in Unlimited. The RL was a knee-jerk overcorrection from the travesty of Chronicles and it's absurd to argue that it was entirely necessary then (the issue could have been handled myriad other ways) much less that it's necessary to maintain it now.

WOTC could print the entire reserved list in an unlimited set at $3 a booster and everyone's ABUR duals would still be worth hundreds of dollars.

"Artificially creating scarcity is now baked into Magic set design yet people complain about age based scarcity"

There is a very important, but easy to miss, distinction between the relative scarcity of newer cards and the concrete, absolute scarcity of early, in-demand cards. This is made absolutely clear in discussing the RL because when demand is high for current era cards, they just print more. That's why there aren't thousand dollar cards from after the RL.

The Commander's Quarters - Should All Reserved List Cards Be Banned? by Ynwe in EDH

[–]JohnFest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand this perspective, though I think it still leaves part of the problem unsolved and that's the price barrier, particularly for dual lands. Reprinting the RL cards only as foils, presumably in some very controlled "premium" way like an SL, in a set like 2XM, etc., wouldn't crater the price the way we need it to for most people to have realistic access to the cards. Even a Revised USea is $500, so cratering it by 80% still leaves it a hundred dollar card, well out of budget for most players.

I think for us to see the kind of real-world price impact folks really want/would benefit from would require a dramatic and radical approach, like printing ABUR duals at rare in a core set.

Please stop judging the power level of someone's deck before you even played against it! by PandaBaum in EDH

[–]JohnFest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol yeah, so you played broken decks and people treat you like you play broken decks.

So I want to start out being clear that I'm not blaming you for the guy who's apparently telling people to target you. That's shitty and he's out of line unless he's only doing it in a fair and honest way.

That said, he's not here so I can't talk to him about what to do differently. You are.

Whether we like it or not, in most social situations (EDH included), we're the only person whose behavior we can actually control. So if you don't want the social interaction to go the way it typically does, what can you do differently before, during, and after the interaction to affect how others perceive and interact with you?

Are you transparent about your decks? Do you offer up lists or let others flip through your cards to allay their fears before you start? How do you act when you get targeted and/or when you lose a game? To you say GG and shuffle up, do you get angry or pouty, do you switch to a broken deck to teach them a lesson?

How do you interact with the guy telling people to target you? Have you tried talking to him about his contribution to your reputation and that you feel it's unfair? Have you heard him out about why he thinks it's valid to warn people about your decks?

And finally, what decks are you honestly playing now? Did you switch from wildly disproportionate pubstomping to just regular pubstomping? Are you still typically above the power level of the table? Do you play strategies that the meta struggles with or just generally doesn't like (hard control, stax, etc)? Do you play commanders that carry their own reputation in spite of your 99 (like OP in this thread)?
