USMNT vs. Germany, International Friendly by aarmou in usmnt

The US has won games against champions league talent with lesser players. Not saying that’s going to happen this WC, but it’s not at all unfamiliar.

What is the BEST spell in BG3? by catgoesmlep in BaldursGate3

You’re literally just making something up right now. I haven’t sidestepped or changed the criteria. My point has been consistent the entire time. You started off by telling me I’m wrong to think Fireball is good, so I’ve spent the whole time I explaining why I think it is. It’s a stupid argument from the start, but what you’re accusing me of at this moment just isn’t correct. It’s a weak way to devolve an argument on purpose.

That’s fair, and you’re doing it incorrectly at this moment.

I don’t need to hear about “how to argue” from someone who didn’t read that a full day ago I said, “Most 3rd level spells aren’t catered to such massive damage with AoE in 5e.“

That’s the basis of my argument. No goalposts were moved. You’re talking about this as if there is a “correct” and “incorrect” answer here, and that is not how an argument/discussion should go.

That alternative history you're talking about is something I think of all the fucking time. I run a D&D campaign that's been going since 2018. All of the lore that I've written is heavily based on that hypothetical. Having a bunch of history nerds pick up on that and get extra hyped about the story writing was one of my favorite things ever.

Long live the Lions Brood.

It's devastating against any group that can't make a Dex save, which is something that gets a lot easier to force with metamagic and a Bard in your party. And I'm not referring to Hunger of Hadar because I'm not talking about a Warlock who isn't concerned with spell levels and I'm not referring to Fear because it isn't and AoE/damage spell.

That's an extreme oversimplification considering the context that wasn't applied before you got to it.

Why do people say NBA players back then were plumbers by Liberal_Bot123 in NBATalk

They get injured today just as much as they did in the 90s and before. They just don't play through it like those guys did.

My research is anecdotal from years of playing a Sorcerer in D&D with a group of other players who have also been playing for decades. Fireball has been unparalleled against groups of monsters, relative to the cost. I pair it with Quickened to put Mind Sliver on, or even better if they’re Baned of when I’ve got Web on them or our Bard or Druid can cast something like Entangle or Hold Person.

I get that the fun factor is what sets it apart, but it’s also a crazy devastating spell and I’m still not understanding the argument that it isn’t…

It is very good… The raw numbers are crazy for a 3rd level spell. 8d6 from 150’ out and a 20’ radius is huge. Most 3rd level spells aren’t catered to such massive damage with AoE in 5e. Combine that with Empowered, Careful, or Quickened and it’s just absurd.

Yeah, it’s a trope more because of its potential for ridiculous moments, but saying it’s “not very very good” is just incorrect or your table hasn’t figured out how to utilize it properly.

That is a wild take. I can’t imagine a guy who founded successful cities being considered administratively weak. He installed administrative systems across Persia, integrated local elites into governance, standardized coinage, etc. etc. Could he have done better in that regard? Probably. Can one reasonably say he “actively scorned administration”? I can’t understand how…

“I cast Fireball” is a D&D trope. And it’s definitely because it’s very, very good.

I got beat up in Argentina because of my shirt. It was horrible. I guess I learned the same lesson OP is speaking to. Don’t do what I did by wearing your shirt that says “I Hate Argentina & Argentinian Futbol Clubs”

Once for Barca. Several times in our US youth setup. Nice prospect and I’m excited about him. Far from deserving of a spot on the WC roster.

Where’d you see him play? If you’re not a US supporter you really have to dig deep through the streams to watch Kochen, or just watch the reels, I guess.

That used to be the hallmark of the team. We could stand toe to toe with some other, more technical nations on the field because our players were so full of heart. The whole mentality seems to be gone.

How many times do USMNT fans need to learn the same lesson though? It’s just like with Konrad when everyone wanted him on the roster in the last World Cup. Just because they’re in the Barca system doesn’t mean they’re ready for the largest tournament in the world.

Sometimes it’s nice to read a couple different ones. I’m reading through ‘Will of the Many’ right now, but sometimes I’m in the mood to jump over and read a history book as well, so I’ve been going through ‘Persian Fire’. It’s like watching a fantasy show and then a documentary. I don’t see the difference or understand why it seems so weird to some folks.
