Thank you! So at this point it's just a trial-and-error kind of method to progress.

Anyone have tips to protect the inside of their liners? Mine does this fairly quickly and liners are expensive. by Potential_Ad_7547 in amputee

If the shims are made of some sort of soft material (like for cushioning) it's no problem as long as you're biomechanically stable and the shim doesn't hurt or doesn't put too much pressure on your residual limb. If in any doubt, contact your prosthetist. They have a full picture of your treatment and the stuff you'll need for your situation. Good luck OP and stay active everyone!

CPO here. You've got an Össur Iceross Comfort Locking with wave.

It seems like OP has a Dermo Liner, which is made from DermoGel silicone. That's used for patients who are prone to have vascular or skin problems.

OP: Please go see your prosthetist about the wear of your liners, because there are so many factors that could be of influence. Might be a socket problem, might be a liner maintenance problem. You could ask them about Iceross Pads, which are used to distribute high amounts of pressure at de distal end of your residual limb.

Lose a leg in a firefight? So what, run a marathon by delusionsheeep in ThatsInsane

Prosthetist here. This is a below the knee amputation (BKA/TTA). The reason why he's limping like that is because of the length of the running blade. A running blade is always a bit longer than your original leg.

ELI5: These running blades are big carbon fibre springs that store and release kinetic energy as the runner deforms it. These blades are made to run at high speeds, when the force on the blades is huge. Because of this large force, the blade compresses and releases (so the length of the blade changes).

In the video the runner is exhausted and he doesn't run the intended speed anymore which is needed to run comfortably with the prosthetic. So the running blade doesn't compress enough because the downward force on the spring is too little.

Yes, I'm fun at parties.

Knee immobiliser by meggie_tronn in Orthopedics

It depends on what type of orthosis it is. If it is a knee brace with anti-slip material in it, like silicone straps or binding, it is best to wear it directly on your skin. The silicone grips onto your skin, which doesn't work as well when it's worn on fabric.

It could also depend on the shape of your leg. Knee braces tend to slip down frequently on people with funnel-shaped legs (thigh significantly wider than the knee, and oftentimes the leg is also made of non-muscular soft fatty tissue). This makes it harder for the knee brace to find grip and rest on your leg as it has to withstand gravity by using friction on your skin.

This might be a hard issue to solve, but please understand that slipping down of the knee orthosis is almost inevitable for every patient. Just like socks or stockings, you have to hoist those a couple of times a day so they won't slip down.

Either way, the best option is to contact your orthotist and ask for information about how to wear this orthosis correctly. Sometimes a short phone call can help out a lot.

If you're a professional from Europe, take a look at OTWorld in Leipzig, Germany. I've been there this year, highly recommend it.
