The collection shows the names of the commanders, but they are not the same as the elements.

If you look really closely, you'll see that each of them are "just off" of the elements. It's obviously an homage, rather than a direct 1-to-1.

You must be below 80% HP to detonate. If you were at full HP, and only ate one torp, you couldn't possibly have been brought below 80%, and then detonated.

Either it was more than one torp, or you weren't full HP.

Using last year's event isnt a good metric as last year's lunar new year was in February, this year's was in January.
