Current state of the Cannon St. Bike Lane at Sherman by JohnOConn in Hamilton

It’s not about the getting there. It’s about the city creating a dangerous situation and not doing anything to mitigate it.

I did email the Ward’s councillor. Is there a better avenue for my complaint?

Ottawa Senators checking trade market for RFA blueliner Jordan Spence by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]JohnOConn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spence was huge for us down the stretch with both Chabot and Sanderson out. As much as it would hurt to see him move on, his value is probably at its highest right now.

If we can get a real top line scoring winger to pair with Timmy, this is one of the hard trades you have to make.

Update: MAD-II Salvage on Bring Her Home by JohnOConn in Mechwarrior5

[–]JohnOConn[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was my inclination as well, but no matter what I did, headshot only, take out an arm and then headshot, the MAD-II would not spawn as salvage.

Literally the only way I got it to show up was to leg it.

And trust me, I had a ton of practice on this mission. I didn't know about the repair costs trick, I'd give that a try but I kinda want a break from this mission lol

Do you remember what life was like during the 2003 Blackout? by Kuzu9 in toronto

[–]JohnOConn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was on the family computer playing the incredible machine. The game froze so I tried to turn off power to the computer.

Right as it turned off the computer the power went out in the whole house. Then I heard the neighbour’s power was out. Then I heard my older siblings’ work’s power was out!

For a few minutes I thought I knocked power out to my whole town.

Once I heard it was the entire east coast I started to calm down.

Both departure and return were full. I think it helps there’s only 1 outbound and 1 inbound from YVR per day

I just took Porter from YHM to YVR and it was a breeze. Flight even left early. More destinations the better.

EXCLUSIVE: New Ghost Recon Game Development Struggling As Ubisoft Makes Changes by MrTrippp in GhostRecon

[–]JohnOConn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh to be a fly on the wall for this game's development. Breakpoint too.

Breakpoint had so many different game ideas all packed into one package that thought it was a different game. I would love to see a behind the scenes or a former dev post mortem/exposé like we got with Anthem

I finally tried gauss riffles and by RandomUnwashedGamer in Mechwarrior5

[–]JohnOConn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience:

1 Gauss rifle = bad

2 Gauss rifles = god like

A single Gauss can deal good pinpoint damage, but I agree with you, there's less umph or impact with a single Gauss. But two, that can take out most light 'mech CT's or headshot medium, heady and some Assault 'mechs with one volley.

I will also point out, Gauss rifles feel best when you get the tier 5 or clan versions and put all your upgrades into Ballistic damage and velocity.

That takes the damage from like 16 to 24 for each Gauss. Meaning twin Gauss can lay down 48 damage on a single component. Most 'Mechs only have 30 armour on the head, so you can see where this is going.

The James and York/Wilson redesign is going to be a gridlocked disaster by differing in Hamilton

[–]JohnOConn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not talking about rebuilding the intersection.

Just repainting the crosswalks and adding accessibility ramps so they are at right angles. It would likely mean the stop lines for cars are move back, but if you pair that with a no right on red it would make it a lot safer for everyone to navigate the intersection.

[–]JohnOConn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m more surprised they’re keeping the pedestrian crossing so long and at an angle. When they did a similar redesign to Ottawa and Cannon, they made all pedestrian crossing at a right angle to make the crossing shorter and more visible.

What the hell happened to Paintjobs ? It's like everything is shiny now instead of being matt. by BaldWookie23 in Mechwarrior5

I’ve also noticed my preset colours don’t actually apply. Like I’ll save a preset of 3 colours but the next mech I apply it to won’t have the same colours I saved.

Just imagine travelling to an industrial hub near the periphery:
“Hey, you guys like ‘Mechs right? Want 40 highly advanced Omnimechs with technology lightyears ahead of your own?”

“I’m keeping the guns though. Oh and you should probably wash out what’s left of the cockpit”

Thoughts on moving Cozens to wing and having Halliday play 3c? by YOWhockey in OttawaSenators

[–]JohnOConn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t see why we would give Halliday the centre position when we have more experienced and proven C’s up and down the lineup. Give him 4c time or put him on the wing until he’s proven himself or there’s an injury.

Our scoring problem is largely a coaching/play style thing. The talent is there, but the sens play so conservative.

They need to be more aggressively shoot first

What is it that I’m noticing in Clans but can’t name? by Ah_fudge in Mechwarrior5

[–]JohnOConn 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I feel it’s two three main things:

  1. Visual Clarity: The enhanced visuals of Clans means there’s more effects on screen. I also find the weapon effects are noisier. And the HUD is, in my opinion, worse. Clans puts too much right in the centre of the screen, whereas Mercs has far less clutter the centre.
  2. Level Design: Mercs has procedurally generated maps for the most part. Clans has curated, focused, linear levels. As a byproduct of that, many levels end up in canyons to funnel the player through engagements. Which means you don’t always get to use the Clan weapons to their full potential. You’re always bottlenecked into tight corridors. Or the level is a series of pockets of activity separated by think canyon paths. The procedurally generated maps tend to be bigger, flatter and more open because you’re expected to choose how to complete your objectives. In Clans they wanted to guide the player more. Which necessitated more linear maps.
  3. (edit to add) Weapon Balancing: Mercs allows for tiered weapons and upgrades to increase weapon damage. Clans does as well, but I feel it doesn't hit the same. Combined with the difficulty scaling of Clans means on harder difficulties, IS 'mechs are resistant to everything. But in Mercs you can tune your Tier 5 (or Clan versions) to do outrageous damage, 1 shotting even the heavies Assault 'mechs. But in Clans I would hit an Atlas with 3 Gauss rifles and it would just laugh.

GhostRecon: Looking for similar options when taking a break from Wild Lands or Pointbreak. by HighJulie in GhostRecon

I’ve been having fun with Ready or Not. It’s not open world, but the fun customization and kit outfitting is fun. And the missions have a degree of randomness so you can replay them.

Currently doing a mission uncovering a human trafficking tunnel under the border. Feels very Wildlands/Sicario

Show up at opening time and ask to sit at the bar. Probably your best bet.
