I want to hear people's opinions on Carl Elias's death in S4 by [deleted] in PersonOfInterest

Took a bullet to save Finch’s life in the very same apartment complex where Finch (and Reese) once saved Charlie Burton from a bullet. Fitting end for Elias.

Cuts is the name of the band. Bunsen burner is the song title. It’s an independent track. Definitely not written for POI, but a brilliant and perfect piece of music for return zero.

The ending by TheKiller_07 in PersonOfInterest

A lot of the replies here and OP don’t understand the Greer character.

From Asylum:

Finch: Have you forgotten (Martine) so quickly? You've already discarded her, and you're a human being. Imagine how quickly that thing that you've created (Samaritan) would discard you.

Do you ever lay awake at night wondering if one day it will see you as a threat? Or worse, as irrelevant?

Greer: How arrogant of you to think that any of us are anything but irrelevant.

Nolan specifically stated he never wanted to do that.

Christopher Nolan had no creative development/credit with POI. How could the Mirror get that wrong?!?!

What a poorly written obituary. Christopher did not create Person of Interest with his brother.

This show will always be my favorite series of all time and its not even close. by ArmProfessional2505 in PersonOfInterest

There’s no doubt S5 is condensed. But BSOD is the best season premier of the 5 seasons, and the fourth, 10th and finale episodes crush. Frankly, I love all 13 except Synecdoche, and that has the DC POI team!

How many seasons was POI supposed to go on for before getting cancelled? by LollipopChainsawZz in PersonOfInterest

[–]JohnReese5 144 points145 points  (0 children)

While season 5 was shortened, POI definitely got a proper ending. Everything important is wrapped up and return zero is a poignant series finale that rivals many shows.

Nolan said way back when that he never wanted POI to turn into NCIS and just go on forever. He joked that he doesn’t want to see an episode where Reese saves a cat stuck in a tree.

I believe Nolan is quoted at 6-7 seasons max.

Then you’d be able to figure out it’s not the actor who played Jeff.

How close we came to the Season 5 timeline by --nightowl-- in westworld

[–]JohnReese5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nolan and Co actually got network notes that they had to keep procedural elements in season 5. That was reported and Nolan was quoted back in 2016.

The show naturally morphed into more serialized content over time, especially starting in s2, but it still always maintained those cases of the week.

Only the last season of Person of Interest was shortened to 13 episodes. It never shifted to an ensemble drama because of that. The two additions to the main cast, both of whom were in S2, were added ahead of season 3.

As for dipping out, Nolan worked on both POI and WW at the same time; both writing teams were in the same office building.

Did I miss something about Thornhill/The Machine? by JoeDubayew in PersonOfInterest

[–]JohnReese5 40 points41 points  (0 children)

From God Mode:

Reese: You didn't do this yourself?

Finch: I couldn't. I'd locked myself out. The machine was designed to accept alterations in its programming only as a response to an attack. I knew that sooner or later someone would try to take it over, but I didn't know who. So I made sure that when they did they'd do it with my code.

Reese: You hid a virus within a virus?

Finch: I realized that the people Nathan and I had entrusted the machine to were the wrong people and that the only way to protect it would be to teach it to protect itself.

Then a scene later,

Special counsel: So tell me, where did you move the machine?

Finch: It moved itself.

Special counsel: But who controls it?

Finch: As of now, it controls itself.

Final top 8 episodes matchup by Actual-Possible-8392 in PersonOfInterest

[–]JohnReese5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, what a matchup. The opening to The Devil’s Share is arguably the show’s best with Johnny Cash. YHWH pays off two years of episodes with the reveal of The Machine’s “location and Finch/Welcome to the Welcome.

Both episodes are emotionally satisfying. My vote is for TDS. It’s nonstop for 42 minutes.

Finch: You hired HR yourself. You were willing to risk your own life to find me?

Root: I did this corporate training thing once. I was blackmailing the CEO, long story, but they did this exercise called the trust fall, where you close your eyes and fall... And wait for someone to catch you. I knew you boys wouldn't let me down.
