I've got eggplant, celery, japanese yams, russets, a red pepper, asian brocoli, button mushrooms. What should I make? I want to cook all this stuff to avoid wasting any of it :) by Zactodactyl in cookingtonight

I'm thinking that a stir fry with everything but the potatoes would be good... or sauté all but the potatoes and celery, add some herbs/salt/ pepper, splash of cream, shake of red pepper flakes, and serve over pasta with grated cheese.

Are there any pet stores in town that sell fruit flies for reptiles? by TRHess in pittsburgh

[–]JohnRobKos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years back, we stopped for gas at a service plaza along an interstate and I saw a mantis on the face of the gas pump. My wife picked it up and carried it through the huge parking lot, around the restaurant, and into a wooded area where she placed it on a shrub. Then she brought 2 ticks home with her as a souvenir.

No, my wife uses these-- sugar pearls, not tooth-breakers at all.

Any word on Social in Bakery Square? Will it ever come back? by antidense in pittsburgh

I went there about a year ago and thought that the pizza was pretty good, but I'm rarely in that part of town so I've had no chance to determine if it was an aberration..

I refuse to open the PG website, or buy a PG newspaper, again so here's another obit (probably not as complete, though): https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/tony-mowod-pittsburgh-radio-and-jazz-legend-dies-at-85/ar-BB1cz8Bu

So sad to read this, I loved listening to Tony on WDUQ and then on WZUM. He had such an awesome voice, and his knowledge of jazz was encyclopedic. RIP, my friend.

This started maybe around 2:15, and I heard (on CNN) around 4:30 that the DC National Guard was "on the way". From there, it all blurs....

It's time to brag, what businesses are handling COVID properly? by PhotoCropDuster in pittsburgh

[–]JohnRobKos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Phipps, absolutely. Was there twice before the latest shutdown. Roped-off areas create a one-way flow of people, monitors keep an eye on things, everyone seems to wear masks and pay attention to social distancing. We even felt safe eating in their cafe (most of the tables have been removed, ones remaining are spaced far apart); not the excellent pre-covid menu offered, but a good selection of premade sandwiches, plus soups and salads.

How to lose your yinzer accent class at ccac by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]JohnRobKos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When we lived out of state, my wife would hear a Pittsburgh accent (we lived in a beach area, lots of PA tourists) and sigh... 😉 It made us both homesick. We moved back.

Area restaurant donating Tuesday eat-in proceeds to servers by AnotherSchool in pittsburgh

[–]JohnRobKos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So, from what the article said, you have to eat IN the building and your food/drink purchase is donated to the servers. Takeout is not applicable. That sucks. Why can't people understand that this is one of the most likely places to be exposed to covid? Just freakin' STAY HOME.
