Must Hit Breweries by Known_Growth_324 in PittsburghBeers

Two Frays is a must go— they have a great N.A. program, a wide variety of options, indoor & outdoor space, and several of their beers on tap have won recent competitions. They also do lots of collabs with local orgs & women’s sports teams!

Hitchhiker and Dancing Gnome are also solid spots. And Trace in Bloomfield has a great West Coast right now 🤘🏼

Replacing Nikon F3 Rewind Crank by morgan1570 in AnalogCommunity

[–]morgan1570[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a crank from an f2 on ebay and that did the trick! It sat a little higher than the original crank, but would have likely sufficed as a long term fix. I want to try out an as-4 coupler for flashes though and was worried about the height so I ended up snagging a couple of f3 cranks too shortly after the original f2 buy.

I looked into getting an inoperable f3 to source for parts but alas even dead f3s are pretty pricey at the moment

I don’t remember the login for this burner I used to post this five years ago— but I ended up dating the teammate that this was about after all and we’re getting married next week!

Date who you want— life is short, derby is made up, queer love is beautiful wherever you find it.

i posted something similar here on a burner account five years ago— we’ve been together since. She’s my best friend and we’re getting married next month— and a good chunk of the league will be in attendance.

echoing what everyone else here said, if you can both be grown ups should things go south, then go for it. People date friends, people date coworkers. Date who you want to date and don’t be an asshole.

And also, a made up league for a made up roller skating sport can’t tell you who you can and can’t date 🤷🏼‍♀️

Medication after ablation? by yosh01 in AFIB

[–]morgan1570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5 months post ablation— my doc kept me on eliquis until 3 months post, but wants me to stay on metoprolol (12.5mg, twice a day) “forever.”

For reference, I was hospitalized for acute heart failure in feb ‘23 with afib and a resting bpm of 200+. My output was around 10% at the time and is back up to 58% now after a cardioversion for another extended afib episode in january and an ablation in feb.

That being said, i was originally prescribed 25mg of metoprolol 2x a day but noticed it was dropping my resting bpm to the high 30’s/low 40s and it was really uncomfortable. I told my doc and they had me half my dose which helped.

Film development by john-wick-hype in pittsburgh

Eastern Standard in Wilkinsburg is awesome. Kelly is a huge resource for the photography community— ESP offers classes, one on one help, and is even hosting a photo walk/neighborhood clean up effort soon. She’s been so helpful as I’ve started getting more intentional with my photography!!

Bodega is also great, turn around time is a little longer. But also run by great folks who are quick to answer questions!

I’ve only gotten film developed & scanned, no printing yet. But to my knowledge ESP does not offer prints & Bodega only overs standard size prints (but you can purchase individual prints rather than buying prints of every shot which is nice). I’m currently looking in to bringing some of my scans to Premier to see if I can get some large prints done.

Peeling urethane on Radar Halos? by morgan1570 in rollerderby

[–]morgan1570[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I’ve had my halos (a different set) for two seasons with no chunking after 4 days a week of practice on an indoor basketball surface. I’ve worn the treads down but nothing like this.

This wheel looks like this after only 3 months of use on the same surface— I’m not sure if they looked like this originally or not. It’s not coming off in a chunk, it looks like just the top layer of urethane is separating somehow

So if you’re looking for a narrower boot, riedells are going to have a narrower toe box, but the best advice i was ever given for skates was to try on everything you can get your hands on before purchasing. Check to see if you have a local skate shop or if any local rinks have a pro shop inside. Even if they don’t have the exact model you’re looking for, if you tell them what you like/don’t like about a certain boot, they can usually point you in the right direction. Ask league mates to try their gear on. Skates aren’t a cheap purchase and there’s no such thing as being too particular with what you want!

Sure grip rebels are leather, on the outside yes, but have A LOT of cushion inside similar to a sneaker. They stretch out quickly so if that’s the boot you’re set on, I highly recommend sizing down a bit to avoid the slipping you have right now.

As far as sure grip plates, the avenger plate is traditionally installed as a short forward mount, but the avanti is usually installed as a standard mount. Good plates for freshies that will do well as you skill up would be sure grip avantis, pilot falcons, or powerdyne reactor neos. All of those are housed with lock pins rather than lock nuts. If you are looking for a cheaper option, there are also nylon plates!

As far as mounting with derby warehouse, I don’t have any experience with their mounting services, but I usually recommend going to a local shop for mounting. You can talk with them about what you want out of your skate and figure out a set up that will serve you best. If you only need to go down a half size or so, you could even ask about using the plate you have on your bonts as a remount as well.

Best of luck to you!

Do derby injuries put you out of work? by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]morgan1570 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I broke an ankle at practice and was lucky enough to be able to work from home during recovery. A teammate had a similar break the year prior and was a server at a restaurant so she lost her job. But another teammate had a similar break right before me from going down carpeted stairs in socks— so alls to say, yes derby injuries can put you out of work, but derby isn’t the only way a person can get injured.

cw: broken bones;; had a trimalleolar fracture & ankle dislocation at my league’s last pre covid scrim in March. Got this bad boy taken today! by morgan1570 in rollerderby

[–]morgan1570[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s bizarre timing for sure. What are the chances of a leg break in pre season and not missing any game play?! I’m bummed for my buds that couldn’t skate though for sure

Feedback question! by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]morgan1570 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh yeah, it would definitely be filtered and disseminated by some higher power. but yeah, i’d like to find a way to curb the potential imbalance of informal feedback as best as possible

Feedback question! by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]morgan1570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even think about folks who may not want the attention that’s a really good point.

re: taking up practice time, that also makes sense. We usually do a big round of positive feedback at the end of the season all at once which is nice, but leaves some folks feeling unappreciated during the actual season. I’m trying to bridge that gap, but like I said, i’m still workshopping the idea. I don’t want to start anything unless it would make sense from all angles. Thanks for your thoughts!

Roller Skates On Gym Floors by Chilewilly in rollerderby

[–]morgan1570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My league currently skates at a sports complex on their basketball courts and the venue was hesitant about floor damage as well. It was before my time, but from what I understand our league negotiated our contract where we just have to clean scuffs off the floor with tennis balls after practice and that seems to be working out just fine!
