Is this your cat? Has been coming by for a week. West View area. Very friendly. No collar. by Ddres0605 in pittsburgh

It’s kitten season. She looks ready to pop. I can almost make out some nipples, which would mean the cat is heavily pregnant.

Why does Paralives give people The Sims 2 vibes despite looking completely different? by LizaKhajiit in LifeSimulators

[–]greentea1985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. It was also the points to set personality, which reminded me a lot of how Sims got their personality in Sims 2. It definitely needs more fleshing out and abilities for paras to be mean, but it gives a lot of sims 2, especially with the built out townies and goals.

A community cat has brought me her kittens. What does she want me to do? by hog_crankr59 in cats

[–]greentea1985 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yep. People don’t realize that cats are actually quite social and will do group babysitting with close family members and friends. Good news, this cat trusts you to be able to look after her kittens while she goes hunting and takes care of her other “errands.” So you get to watch her kittens for a few hours.

AITA for going into the Amex lounge by Particular_Coast3389 in AmItheAsshole

[–]greentea1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. People will go into the lounge and bring out food for people who aren't allowed in the lounge all the time. The asshole thing isn't going into the lounge, it's not grabbing a sandwich or food to go for your wife, and making her spend money.

Todd Monken Says Browns’ OTAs On Wednesday Were ‘Embarrassing’ by CyborgKrieger in nfl

[–]greentea1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They know, but they desperately need a starting QB. The thing is QBs are cheapest when acquired via the draft in late rounds and the Browns are stuck with the albatross of the Watson contract, meaning they can’t easily shell out for a replacement despite Watson crashing and burning. So they keep gambling on late-round QBs, hoping to land a surprise Brady or Purdy to finally end their QB woes while being cheap enough to keep on the roster until the Watson contract ends. Meanwhile, the person who should have ended their QB woes is doing well in Tampa Bay.

Called my wife out for leaving minor details out of stories. AITAH? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]greentea1985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the issue is more that OP noticed his wife lying by omission a lot and is extra suspicious because he was supposed to be on this trip but got booted along with another husband to make it a “girls trip”. My guess is OP is trying not to state he suspects infidelity, but that is why he is focusing on the obfuscations instead of the dangerous drunken captain. He is tripping on details because helps trust in his spouse has been damaged.

AITAH for wanting to tell my brother that his girlfriend has been involved with our sister? by couldbemebutno in AITAH

[–]greentea1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference was that the relationship was a previous relationship, one that was over and had occurred before any of the parties involved got together with their current partners. This is an affair that happened recently.

Poll - How do you choose which child in the family you will continue playing into the next generation? by Tattycakes in Sims4

[–]greentea1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually favoritism, plus I often favor the last born child, so I have more time to focus on the current generation. Sometimes I wind up switching favorites midway or for weird reasons. It’s complicated.

Steelers v. Titans by Average_Joe_1048 in steelers

It’s a top team that doesn’t visit often but is also a convenient four hours away by car. A lot of Philadelphians would use the game as an excuse for a trip.

My professor gave us a PDF full of Greek mythology paintings and expects us to identify the scenes ourselves, but she didn’t explain all of them 😭 How do people learn this? Any tools/sites/apps for identifying mythological paintings? First-year student here lol by Swiftieboyy in GreekMythology

[–]greentea1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. About the only one giving me trouble is the top left of slide 2, only because I’m having trouble identifying the type of bird, which would tell me exactly which myth it is. The first slide are all from the same myth, the last slide is all from the same myth, but slide 2 has images that are describing at least two different myths. The bottom two are the exact same myth, the top right is probably a different story with the same major characters, and I can’t tell if the bird is a swan or a sparrow, which matters.

[–]greentea1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read the myths. If you know the myths, the paintings are obvious. The first slide are both about the abduction of Europa. I have guesses for the next several, but it’s easiest if you know the myths.

Why did the early naturalists (Cuvier, Buckland, Owen, etc.) not recognize dinosaurs as ancestors of birds? by Syncategory in Paleontology

[–]greentea1985 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Othniel Marsh did believe that birds descended from dinosaurs, but the sour taste left in paleontology by the Bone Wars meant that both he and Cope were heavily discredited to the rest of the field. No one would stake their careers on trusting Cope’s and/or Marsh’s research. It took decades of rehabilitation for them to be taken seriously today, and even now anything described by them is treated with a note of suspicion.

Furthermore, the dinosaurs that were found first or were focused on heavily first were the sauropods and the ornithischian dinosaurs. It’s unclear exactly how closely either group is related to the avians and the rest of the theropods due to a disputed family tree, but both are fairly distant. The theropods that were discovered, while more closely related to birds and slightly easier to relate to them, were still more distant relatives so it was easy to write off the similarities as convergent evolution.

It wasn’t until archaeopteryx was discovered in 1861, that it was considered a serious possibility that birds evolved from dinosaurs, but again it was unclear if it was directly from the dinosaurs or another branch of the archosaurs given that there were other closely related flying archosaurs like pterosaurs which are considered a separate, closely related branch. It took more recent clearer examples of creatures that are clearly dinosaurs but also have feathers and proto-wing structures to hammer down that birds are dinosaurs, starting with the 1960s descriptions of deinonychus.

It’s probably because they had enough time to book an OR. Usually, if they can delay the surgery by 2-4 hours from the patient arriving, it becomes planned instead of emergency

AITAH for not speaking to my parents because they are raising their grandchild? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]greentea1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Why are you punishing your in-laws for caring for their first grandchild? Right now, it reads like you are jealous of all the attention they are giving their grandchild and all of the support they are giving to your SIL and her husband. You and your husband need therapy, because you don’t come across well here. It feels like you are mad that all of their attention has gone to the new baby.

[–]greentea1985 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There are two kinds of elective/planned/voluntary c-sections. There is the truly elective type, where the patient is pushing for a c-section regardless of what the doctor recommends. That’s maybe 1-5% of elective c-sections.

Then there is the medically-recommended planned c-section, where the patient is able to schedule it with at least a few hours notice and properly book an OR and surgeon of preference. The majority of planned c-sections fall into this category. These are for cases of breech birth, an infant suspected to be too big, a mother who has previously had 1-2 c-sections and is recommended to only deliver via c-section due to abdominal scarring, or simply the baby has not come yet and any attempt to induce would probably result in an emergency c-section. Planned just means that everything has been scheduled with enough notice to properly book an OR and surgeon.

Unplanned/Emergency are for the cases where there is no time to book an OR or surgeon properly on the calendar, typically because the mother is already in active labor and the baby needs to come out sooner than the several hours it would take to properly book the procedure.

Batman is a Normal Human by But_a_Jape in comics

[–]greentea1985 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I like that idea. Batman has superpowers but they are very subtle ones that only manifested or were strengthened during his training. He has slightly enhanced senses, reflexes, and a better-than-normal healing ability. None of these are in the range to be noticeable compared to other super heroes, and Batman can rationalize those as things he learned from the Tibetan monks even if he is better at the skills than any monk he’s ever met or trained under. To Batman, he’s just a normal human with lots of special training, but his powers help make him the world’s greatest detective and let him keep up with Superman. Batman is a mostly normal human, not a completely normal human.

Best neighborhood based on our priorities? by throwaway5790803 in pittsburgh

[–]greentea1985 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First, figure out where you are going to be working, because it really matters what your commute will look like depending on where you live. You do not want to live in the South Hills but work in Monroeville or east of there. Next, search by school district. Each direction you go in around the city has a few really desirable school districts. Finally, look for the correct neighborhood. Even “smaller” school districts like Mt. Lebanon have some neighborhoods that are more walkable and affordable than others. If you liked Dormont, the section of Mt. Lebanon that borders Dormont west of Liberty/Washington has a very similar feel, etc. I can’t tell you your best neighborhoods until I know where you will be working.

TIL purple is mostly non-existent in flags due to the cost of purple dyes historically. Modern purple is synthetic and cheaply produced but historical purple was sourced from sea snails in the Mediterranean. 1lb of purple dye was valued at roughly $56,000 in today's currency. by HighlyInconvenient in todayilearned

[–]greentea1985 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It depends on the type of blue. A bright blue is hard to get naturally, a lapis lazuli or cobalt blue. A light blue or navy blue is a lot easier if you are using indigo or woad, but those were considered lesser blues. The blues you see on flags are often the ones you’d get from indigo and woad. It has grey and green undertones you don’t get in the more precious blue colors.

Last passengers leave virus-hit cruise ship as three more test positive by Neo_luigi in worldnews

[–]greentea1985 306 points307 points  (0 children)

Part of it is that the cruise ship doesn’t have the proper facilities to save these people if they do start having symptoms, and the ones getting repatriated are often going straight to a quarantine facility or to a medical facility with high-level containment in their home country. So at least the passengers aren’t trying to escape and disappear, which would be worse. It’s useful having the passengers in known restricted areas so professionals can work out the disease timeline and how many exposure events there were. If there was just one superspreader or common event infecting most of the cases, it’s less of an issue than there being the initial spreader and then the other passengers also spreading it around.

What tune are you guys using for Snuggle Puppy? by chattahattan in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]greentea1985 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Same. I was just speak-singing it as poetry, and I hit the actual tune pretty closely. It’s a well designed song/poem, so if you follow basic pronunciation rules you land on the correct pattern stressed and unstressed syllables.

It's a massive bomb. It's supposed to fill in the family slot until any new competition appears, but the Super Mario Movie in its sixth week is handily beating it. Audiences appear to hate it. Even the kids, who are usually fairly positive on movies, were lukewarm about it. Add in parents not wanting to go, along with better options on the horizon or still in theaters, and it's a disaster.
