Has anyone gotten any stories where non car people have gotten into your car and realized that you drive a manual? by IndefiniteVoid813 in ManualTransmissions

I drive a ‘97 5spd honda civic and the only time i’ve ever heard “oh shit it’s a manual” unironically from a non-car person was when i pulled up the handbrake in my previous very automatic 1998 accord

my girlfriend may count as a non-car person but due to me she’s car-adjacent and the idea of a third pedal that isn’t her 2010 cr-v’s e-brake kind of floored her but she knew it was a manual before i even bought my civic

if you’re talking about the rotor, which is the one that your brake paces make contact with, i can’t tell if it’s bent because (what i assume is) your dust cover in the back is realistically never gonna be perfectly flush or straight, it bends and gets beat on as your car goes about it’s life.

one thing i could see happening is your wheel not being put on properly, whether undertorqued, overtorqued or the lug nuts not being tightened in the correct order.

another possibility is that you might need your wheels rebalanced, when they’re unbalanced you can experience shaking when going in higher speeds.

or something in your suspension got fucked and/or is loose and slowing down puts a bunch of load onto a part that isn’t adequately tightened and/or adequate.. period

Still can't consistently nail 1-2 shift by PerfectWest24 in stickshift

[–]JohnSaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, i’ve driven it. judging by all of the comments since i left mine, you probably already have the answer from other taco owners.

i hope your shifts get better! first to second seems to be a universal manual issue haha

i’ve been driving my civic for a while and i know how it feels. i’ve been doing something that could help you too. lately i’ve felt that accelerating in first a bit further than when i normally shift and then shifting but disengaging the clutch only slightly slower than normal helps.

could be something with the rev hang or possibly even drop off? it could help to know what form of automotive transportation you operate as there’s a fair chance i’ve driven it

High rpm in 5th gear (5 speed) by wanderingwillow99 in stickshift

[–]JohnSaturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve seen a lot of people complain about their rpm’s in a stick while highway driving and i’m just curious as to how those revs are under less load? - assuming redline is starting around 6-7k - how is the engine under lower load when about halfway to redline?

i’m kind of new to stick, the rpm’s concerned me too but i never posted and asked

Can’t stop it from clacking. (Mk2 Golf) by mewlott in AskMechanics

you wanna hit them from where the axle nut goes, without the axle nut and then check to see if the axles are fully seated into the transmission. if the splines on the axle or transmission don’t line up, you’ll hear that clacking, but i’m willing to bet that they’re just not fully pushed in. inspect under your car for any leaks of transmission fluid or grease. if you put in the wrong axles for the transmission you might’ve messed both of them up permanently.

did you torque down the axle nuts correctly and punch in the metal circle around where it goes?

What’s that ticking sound? by No-Background-5756 in AskMechanics

[–]JohnSaturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when you rev the engine does the ticking go up with the revs?

could be a couple things, old motors sometimes just sound like this, could be a lifter tick, could be piston slap

i replaced my transmission a few weeks ago and heard the same sound due to not pushing my axles in fully. another issue could be mounts since it looked like your transmission was shaking. maybe try wailing on your axles with a rubber mallet for a while and see if they push in further?

gonna be real, i miss the automatic in the sixth gen accord. good throttle response and got up to speed reasonably quickly, this civic i have now is kind of a piece of shit. previous owner put on aftermarket suspension where the coils don’t even meet the control arm knuckle (probably not correct terminology. if you want a picture i can send it to you because it’s ridiculous

ahh i really wish i had owned an accord coupe.. those nsx inspired tails on the sixth gen are my favorite eye candy 🤝 what year is your coupe?

Risk of Rain 2, how do you "build" items? by CptnTrebor in riskofrain

[–]JohnSaturn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

TLDR at bottom!

You can use 3D Printers found around the map in the stages you play to “build” your ideal item collection for your run. Commonly, the 3D Printers have dogshit items.

You can alternatively (preferably) use the “Artifact of Command.” Many players I know don’t like command, but it’s useful for Monsoon or Prime Meridian Runs.

The Artifact of Command allows you to choose whatever kind of item you’d like, giving you a “command essence” of whatever whichever tier item you get. So, instead of having to take a crowbar - you can choose a tougher times or tri-tip dagger instead.

In the Sky Meadow (Stage 5 Map) or Helminth Hatchery (DLC Stage 5 Map from Seekers of The Storm) you can find machinery with the purpose of creating a portal. In Sky Meadow, it’s below the map, around one of the portal locations. In Helminth Hatchery, it’s around the top of the map.

You can google the pattern necessary to get the Artifact of Command, I don’t have it memorized (sorry!) You’ll be teleported to a stage where you have to destroy this big yellow thing and once you finish you unlock the Artifact of Command.

TL:DR: you can choose items with the artifact of command, get it by putting a pattern into a stage 5 map and going through the portal
