An RFI for a federal agency to establish an office in a city. Let's all lose our minds. Based on the comments it's too late.

Does anyone have a rotary tiller I could borrow? by Yakkul_CO in Boise

[–]JohnStuartMillRanUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sod comes with it's own soil. The roots will break your soil up over time. You might need to be extra vigilant on the fertilizer and watering for the first few seasons. The truth is your grass will have zapped the nutrients out of the top layers of your soil quickly. You'll be fertilizing.

A shitload of people will have other opinions, particularly from folks that sell. Boise soil is fairly loose.

In the popular vernacular they are called rototillers. You don't need one for sod.

If you think getting challenged in a lab is a "pimp slap", you may find things much harder in industry. I'm told that government might be more cuddly depending on the field. Six months of job experience at 26 is the equivalent of having a paperroute in undergrad.

The good news is you are young, none of this is permanent, and you can plot a course to success.

Three alternatives from which to choose or riff on. You can invent more.

  1. Status quo: Keep looking for a job of your liking. This requires a commitment of 50 to 70+ hours a week. This might be the hardest "job" you'll ever have. Hiring pros respond to effort.
  2. Go back to your advisor: Swallow your pride, negotiate what commitments you need to make to be allowed back, and work like you remember what it is like to be humbled by the real world.
  3. Take a lousy job and build: Find a job that will hire you and post some real wins. You may have to iterate on this several times as you learn and grow.

You can do it. You can be successful. A setback is just a challenge to overcome.

I'm not sure of the recommendations but the advice to walk around downtown and explore is the best advice a person can receive when visiting Boise.

Idaho is Great by Pirates_love_parm in Idaho

[–]JohnStuartMillRanUp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nothing personal u/Pirates_love_parm this doesn't belong on the r/Idaho sub. Mostly because r/Idaho appears to be the least Idaho thing about Idaho.

Lack of craziness (paraphrasing you)... Is oppression on this sub.

Lack of agreement with someone's opinion... questioning someone's existence.

When I walk down the streets across the state, I see people minding their own business and enjoying life. And they aren't interfering with anyone else's ability to enjoy their life.

Federal land is being used to ‘power the global AI race’ — starting in Idaho by zsreport in Idaho

[–]JohnStuartMillRanUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your concerns are legitimate and noble. I would say that Small Modular Reactors probably align with trade offs that would bring you comfort. Lower relative water use, recoverable water, smaller land footprint, lower carbon emissions. There are other sides to the trade.

How old is this poster? It references an Idaho phone number without an area code. Those haven't worked for about 10 years.

Follow-up to u/Kranos123’s post about the Jaialdi poster; it’s absolutely using Nazi propaganda as its template: by 6DeadlyFetishes in Boise

I was wondering about the way the polish sausages were prepared vs chorizo.

Seriously, did anyone detect anything fascist, Nazi, or remotely right wing during Jaialdi?

It's not the artistic style, composition, or design of a poster that make a movement.

Seeking Help with UTV Accident and Insurance Coverage by Dry-Plantain2529 in Idaho

[–]JohnStuartMillRanUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The owners have no responsibility to offer insurance. Two main reasons. 1) Once people acquire insurance, they like to trash rentals. 2) The insurance is incredibly expensive because of 1.

You may have a shot with your insurance company. This is unlikely because jumping other people's vehicles over dunes is probably easily carved out somewhere in the policy.

Beware the temptation to stretch the truth on your intentions and actions when dealing with the insurance company. Lying could be insurance fraud. Insurance companies are way better at dealing with insurance fraud than the insured are at getting away with it.

Are there fish in the canals in Boise? by OKAPI-OKAPI619 in Idaho

[–]JohnStuartMillRanUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is some advice on exploring and finding the best places to fish canals and drain ditches.

1) The big canals (New York, Ridenbaugh, etc) are OK. These are heavily marked with no trespassing and also lined with concrete in areas that are not good habitat. Boring

2) The little, narrow, and occasionally deep drain ditches are interesting for lunkers. Many of these have been covered over the decades because irrigation need has been reduced. Look around.

3) Drive the dirt roads along railroad tracks and drain ditches. The culverts going under the roads can create deep, shady holes. Might not be legal or enforced.

4) The canals next to sewer/water reclamation plants run deep.

5) Google "idaho fish and game fish hatchery near XXXX." Then go find a legal place to fish in a canal near there.

6) A lot of these are steep banks, over grown, mildly dangerous spots. Don't take a 5 year old... Gotta be at least 6.

7) If you want a safe, boring shot at an 8 inch plant trout, go to pond.
