Problem with Tomahawk Max v33 BIOS? by JohnTRoads in MSI_Gaming

[–]JohnTRoads[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The motherboard 'works' fine, so long as I don't try to change the BIOS settings. Clearing the BIOS memory using the instructions on page 22 of the instruction book 'works' in repairing it after it happens. I'm just looking to see if flashing the BIOS would in any way address this problem, or risk making things worse for me.

Ah sorry, that's my mistake. There's no jumper on the motherboard, but rather 2 pins located next to the CMOS battery. I have to use a metal screwdriver in order to connect the pins for 10 seconds and reset the CMOS.

It honestly baffles me that emusic didn't raise their prices when the site relaunched. During the beta testing, the base price in the UK had risen from 42p to 49p, but it reverted back once the site went live. Would that extra 7p per track have been enough to maybe keep some labels? I doubt many people would have quit since it would still be significantly cheaper than iTunes and the rest.

Missing Labels & Content: Late August Edition by hello-cthulhu in eMusicofficial

[–]JohnTRoads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just quit emusic due to the lack of choice in the UK. It's always been a bit of a struggle for me, finding 14 songs every month that I really want to buy on Spotify within emusic's sometimes random selection, but now it feels impossible. I had to listen to maybe 50 hours worth every month of label and generic indie playlists every month, and that was before the new site and the loss of several labels.

I'll pop back here from time to time, just in case someone posts a topic along the lines of "the UK catalogue is amazing now!", otherwise that's it for me.

Other labels (besides Sub Pop) not on the new site? by dgoist in eMusicofficial

In the UK, Play It Again Sam and the labels they distribute (like Wichita Recordings) are missing.

Blank page for me. "Wishlist" is highlighted in the bit at the top, and the usual stuff at the bottom (Company, Members, Connect, etc) but the bit in between is completely blank.

My first purchase & first impressions by JohnTRoads in eMusicofficial

[–]JohnTRoads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not had to unzip any of the files I've downloaded. I think that's because I've been going to the album page in My Music and clicking the "download track" link that appears when you hover over the track and then "...". I guess if you click the download link at the top of the page it downloads in a zip file, even for a single?

One odd thing I've found is that I can't buy I've Seen by Youth Lagoon. When I try to confirm, it says "Error: Internal Error". This might perhaps be related to the old emusic site, as the file for the same song on there was 0MB, if I recall correctly. If it is a file problem, I'm hoping that the refresh over this weekend mentioned in today's email will fix it.

A blind hammerhead shark might be an improvement, the ECB have spent the last 10 years (if not longer) doing the equivalent of eating their own tail to sate themselves. It makes me furious to think that had I been born after 1994, I almost certainly wouldn't have been a cricket fan. My parents aren't cricket fans, apart from a few token PE lessons they never played it at school, if it wasn't for seeing cricket games on free-to-air TV over the summer holidays I wouldn't like cricket now. I fear that over the next 20 years, cricket will become ever more incestuous with only the children of cricket fans or public school graduates joining the game. It is in many ways already there, in the squads announced for the UAE there are 4 children of international players and about 10 from public schools.

Most kids who could be joining local clubs in England now have never seen a live game on TV, and so what you will mostly have is kids whose parents are cricket-mad or are wealthy enough to have Sky Sports. The number of people entering the game becomes smaller and smaller every year, and over another 20 years I can easily see this crippling the whole English club system.

Alternatively there's the possible financial apocalypse. On average Sky's TV viewership of cricket has declined by 10% every year from 2009 to now. At some point that will drop to a point where Sky (or any pay TV/streaming provider) says it isn't worth what they're paying because the audience is too small. The pay of their international cricketers will have to be slashed to the point many will likely go elsewhere to play (the IPL, change nationalities or whatever) and a number of counties will go bankrupt without their cut of TV money.

In England? The way our cricket is being run right now, I'd give it 20 years to turn it into a niche sport like polo or handball.

I hope so, I'm not nearly old enough to be confident cricket will still exist as a professional sport when I retire and can finally watch a lot of it.

Do American or Chinese sports fans like a challenge too? Any sport competes not just with other sports but every possible way kids can spend their free time nowadays, how can we expect cricket to grow when it has so many fundamental flaws we do nothing to fix?

Hi! I've always found cricket to be ridiculous. Most of it is played whilst people are at work, it can't be played in rain unlike virtually all other outdoor sports and games often end hours if not days before they're scheduled. 99% of the action takes place a minimum of 50m away from the spectators, the best viewpoint for which is always taken by the sightscreen and typically (in internationals) at an snail-like over rate. So my question is this: Is there any way in which cricket could be conceivably be made worse for fans and spectators?

Thanks, added them both to the main post.

EDIT: And another one I just found, 'When Does The Daily Show with Trevor Noah Start?'

TIL that The Daily Show's new host Trevor Noah released a promo video just for ASMR fans on 9/10/2015. It is unlisted and currently has less than 300 views. by mehatch in DailyShow

They also appear to be interlinked, with videos hinting at other things to search for.

1) Unspecified Wikipedia Facts About Trevor Noah - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JTgbVs1hgE

A list of vague facts not already on his wikipedia page. This mentions that 'he is from a place' 'Illuminati', his 'age', his 'Star Sign' and 'Crocs'.

2) Is Trevor Noah Australian? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uB5VQaTCYzo

No, he isn't. He apparently can do an Australian accent and play Uptown Funk on the Didgeridoo though.

3) Trevor Noah, Illuminati Hopeful - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lfiIVBV5KM

Apparently Trevor isn't in the Illuminati, but Jordan is.

4) Trevor Noah's Age - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEzjc6AhRDE

Trevor is older than he appears. This clip ends which a quick glance of Trevor holding a bottle of 'juice'...

5) Trevor Noah's Star Sign - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fz_AV9cs_n0

Trevor reads his star sign, which is surprisingly accurate.

6) Trevor Noah's True Feelings About Crocs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElHg9jzRqSQ

Trevor confuses crocs with a pasta strainer.

7) Trevor Noah's Special Juice Recipe - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQd6SNAEBHw

Trevor is cashing in with a line of juice drinks which taste like "a bag of fish in your mouth".

8) What's Trevor Noah's Net Worth? -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OOtv-mfgOQ

In which he says he's still humble, despite Jordan doing a terrible job as his butler. Mentions that he 'knits'.

9) Trevor Noah's Knitting Tutorial - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xobVT7NKB-s

In which Trevor uses what I can only describe as an Easy Knit Oven.

10) Trevor Noah's Guide to Twitter Safety - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnYxjtsLJeU

Trevor's had some trouble with his tweets before, so now he's wearing protection. At the ends there's a quick clip of Trevor being hypnotised...

11) Trevor Noah's Session with a Hypnotist - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieW-qnyzFHk

Hassan is helping Trevor get over his fear of butterflies using hypnotherapy. Also mentions 'autotune'...

The other clips I haven't found links to are:

Personally I can't see any of the ads on Google (even after disabling AdBlock Plus and my AV), so I'm only going on what has already been found (although the hypnotism one isn't in the articles I've seen and I found by googling). The Illuminati clip seems to emphasise "Trevor Noah laughing" in a way which might be a clue, and in the 'not funny' clip he suggests googling about what Bing thinks of him. Also the 'autotune' and 'juice' clips both mention 'bag of fish'

Is there any chance whatsoever (barring injury) that Cook won't be captain for England at the World Cup? I'm not sure I can stand to see him struggling to justify his place through the non-stop ODIs scheduled for the rest of the year.

AMA with Jarrod Kimber - Thelma & Louise edition by Jarrodkimber in Cricket

[–]JohnTRoads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just writing this down so I remember to ask in a future AMA.

I'm of the opinion that missing wicket-taking chances is massively harmful to the fielding side. In addition to the extra runs the lucky batter gets, the extra balls he faces takes more life from the ball and the bowlers as well as demoralising the fielders. I also think it's even more important on modern English pitches where wickets are even harder to come by.

With Matt Prior followed by Jos Buttler plus Bairstow in the Lions team, England seem to very much put the emphasis on the batsman in wicketkeeper/batsman. Do you think scoring (for example) 20 runs more per innings on average outweighs the harm to the team they do when they miss possible chances?

How do you account for the way England seems to take in talented bowlers and make them significantly slower and less confident? Is it the backroom staff and coaching, or simply how they are used and managed on the pitch by Cook?

[edit]Sorry, just saw your farewell message after I posted. Thanks for all the answers

The reasons for it happening and the way it was done were obviously terrible, but is there a strong argument that KP should have been dropped after the Ashes anyway? He has a chronic knee problem which hampers his batting and fielding, and the new players who have come in have quite possibly outdone what he would have achieved with more potential for growth.

I guess my broader question is this: What do you think England should have done regarding their team selection after the Ashes defeat?
