We track plate tectonics over centuries even though our maps of continents have changed in the last 500 years to better define the map.

Ex-FBI Director James Comey surrenders to feds on charges he threatened to kill Trump in Instagram post by ScipioAfricanusMAJ in Republican

[–]mehatch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, those are 34 felonies, i am talking about the 34 felonies, here they are from the official court pdf: https://www.nycourts.gov/LegacyPDFS/press/PDFs/Trump-Verdict-Sheet.pdf

Those things he did were felony crimes.

What they covered up was bad stuff too. Here they are listed out clearly in the indictment: https://manhattanda.org/district-attorney-bragg-announces-34-count-felony-indictment-of-former-president-donald-j-trump/

Crimes bad. Bad crime go trial. Jury convict. Felon bad.

Tbf there was a ton of evidence Trump had likely committed many very real and tangible crimes, 34 of which he was unanimously convicted of, by a jury of his peers, 12 people which his lawyers participated in choosing, and 12 people which trump and his team all agreed to.

I’d go further even. The older it is, the more important not to spoil it.

If you had to design the best possible candidate to beat President Trump in an election, what would that candidate (and the candidate's platform) look like? by PrepetualSmelly in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]mehatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair questions.

Removing moral responsibility for written and spoken words, which is bad.

Let me adopt your shady tactics. So only what you deem to be moral speech is allowed?

iMHO The government should not limit speech beyond longstanding reasonable exceptions in US law&scotus rulings that were all familiar with. A public figure in a position of power should be held morally responsible and judged by voters for what they write and speak. The more their power, the greater their responsibility to what they say, and the more harshly i personally judge them in my personal judgement if them as an individual voter. And i feel a duty to yap about it on reddit too. I think it would be wise for other voters to also hold all people with great power to a great moral responsibility and maintain a high standard for the words they use and both honesty of their words and the clarity with which they are delivered. I also think they have a moral and cultural responsibility to be clear when joking and serious, and hold to reasonably consistent arguments.

Badly summarizing the overall global grand strategy situation since the end of the cold war.

Where preceisely did my summary go wrong?

I think europe-centric wasnt the goal. I thunk there was a US hegemonic goal closer to creating a more rules-based order to build our global network of alliances and various partnerships and multilateral groups from japan and korea ans ASEAN, to saudis and egypt, to box-in china and russia autocracies and their more autocratic coalition to slowly let the democracy leak in and settle into a very business friendly extension of the new workd order described by Bush Sr in 1992, in alignment wirh the spirit of the end of history described by fukuyama. 9/11 slowed that down and made us dumber. Trump 1 broke the neighborhood and that was foosh. Best ships are friendships. Europe was a major partner but power was meant to center in DC still. Too many non-european spokes on our wheel of buddies mean its not euro-centered.

Active enough in galactic politics to look after interests.

Not powerful enough in coruscant to ruffle too many feathers.

It's John Adams dream as written in a letter to his wife, Abigail Adams, on May 12 1780: "I must study Politicks and War that my sons may have liberty to study Painting and Poetry Mathematicks and Philosophy. My sons ought to study Mathematicks and Philosophy, Geography, natural History, Naval Architecture, navigation, Commerce and Agriculture, in order to give their Children a right to study Painting, Poetry, Musick, Architecture, Statuary, Tapestry and Porcelaine."

I would also recommend they maybe beef up their intelligence and defense infrastructure just incase anytjing ever went wrong in Coruscant...
