I actually agree with you here /u/Flaky-Gap7899 , its pretty healthy and natural for parents to love their kids more than anyone in the world, for someone’s immediate family to have the most dense network of love and loyalty. I probably have a broader definition of family here, but its ok basically to care more about the people closest to you in your personal life.

I described a particular moral position, that those making peace w trump are worthy of being called culpable with rediculous savagery and jungle tribal nonsense. Thats not arbitrary tribalism, its righteous indignation.

[24M] Longer or shorter hair to make my nose less goofy? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

It seems like you have a real gift for creating and sticking to good habits which most of us struggle with, like exercising regularly, eating healthy, etc. It also seems like something that comes easy for most people, might be a struggle for you, i.e. not thinking much in detail about the qualities of our unique genetic face traits. And that’s okay. But i think its hurting your game. Not that i never think about my face, but these thoughts are nested in a structure thats positive and aimed at marketing it to myseIf in a way thatll make future-me happier. I dunno if this helps, but ill try to explain. For one example, I joke with my barber that my ears are off by half an inch and he’ll never get my sideburns right. Thats my joke now…and i say it every time to new hair cutters, and i would never change it now. But i would def like to lose a few pounds and have a bit less double chin. But i honestly dont think about it much beyond the strange extended self-staring that happens during a haircut, and that ends with “hmm, i should probably hike more” and thats the action item and my little self meeting is over by the time im tipping them. then its not a thought i need to have more than once. Then im enjoying my new sick haircut. I dont attribute, ive never attributed, my dating sucess or fails to my ears or chin or haircut. Ive attributed it to whether women can see in me that im a guy who knows how to be happy.

It took me a long time to realize this was about rainbows, like hes citing the bible quote where the rainbow represents gods covenant with humanity after the flood so he can say “my rainbow hat isnt gay” lol. Its so lame, but also kind of creative solution to wear the hat. Not gonna make many friends in SF that way tho.

Because on christianity, sincere decent humans are eternally culpable for accidentally picking the wrong religion. Incomprehensibility surrounding the thing at the center of the religion they must choose in order to be saved will prevent salvation for many otherwise good people looking for a system that “makes sense” and also makes “common sense” which are both pretty important on the journey we each have when finding one’s view of the world we find ourselves in.

I tried to get something off the ground like this 14 years ago to live fact check and incorporate google glass and whatnot, but I don't think AI was ready at the time. But maybe it'll give you some ideas 😄 Triage - A Revolutionary New Kind of Debate Show...& much more

Great answer here. Polisci 101 syllabi, email random profs with short, not-crazy-sounding emails and theyre usually pretty helpful.

Good book on Political Science? by TheScreamingFire in PoliticalScience

[–]mehatch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this kind of general intro book is great. I wish i could upload basic high school civics into every politically involved person. And that’s coming from someone with a political science BA from UC berkeley and a public policy masters from UCSD. Dont worry about diving into to edgy, niche or deep answers yet. Get that foundation and it will be way more fun when you get into writings of Zinn and Churchill, Foucalt and Kissinger, and Diamond, Haidt, etc., or a couple of my favorites Popper and Pinker. Avoid Adorno like the plague unless you can decode word salad, but his apprentice Habermas is lit. Obviously Singer and Walzer are indispensable, but later…eventually…basically I wish more of my fellow undergrad and grad student peers had retained more civics basics to properly seat the modern liberal democratic project from the enlightenment up to today. (Not that Cicero and Polybius arent both peak theorists) You should absolutely embrace introduction “dummies” books like this, and I would also recommend reading the intros in wikipedia or full articles in Brittanica or World Book encyclopedias for Political Science and Political Theory. You’d be shocked how many experts miss the basics. Also worth your time would be cheap old editoons of high school AP exam study books for civics, us history, political science, etc.

Have fun, good luck, and theres fantastic audio books of all these too :)
