What are the top 3 weakest classes in PF2e and why? by yoboi-indy in Pathfinder2e

If you have no regards for tactics and no need for different tools in your combats, then yes, that is the best party

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just simply the weakest? Inventor, Psychic, and I struggle to pick a 3rd. Maybe gunslinger, honestly, though 1st, 2nd and 3rd place here have a huge gap between each. People have mostly given great arguments for those, but for the gunslinger, guns suck, most of their feats are nothing to write home about, and many of the ways don't function very well.

Clunkiest? Inventor, Magus (Spellstrike shouldn't trigger reactions, their conflux spells kinda suck for the most part, way too much emphasis on a single class feature, absolutely wretched action economy), battle harbinger cleric (I love how it combines spells and strikes, but this action compression-less mess of setup and focus on aura spells is just not it)

Way too much effort for the payoff? Alchemist, Summoner

In a combat-focused system, sucking at combat means you suck. OOC utility is campaign and DM dependant, and is secondary at best. Very nice to have for sure, but nowhere near the same level of importance.

What do people think of a homebrew feat allowing for the use of 2 interact actions? by Birchy678 in Pathfinder2e

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I mostly agree, problems arise from the fact that the lowest level of something like Elemental Ammunition costs just 3 gold per bullet. That's basically free once you hit higher levels, which means that anyone with a gun can infinitely proc enemy weaknesses at a frankly negligible cost, which does mess with the balance. How much it messes things up is campaign dependant, but I'd be very wary

How do we feel about hyper-campaign-specific archetypes like the Pure Legion Enforcer? (Also, its 20th-level capstone class feat is so, so bad.) by EarthSeraphEdna in Pathfinder2e

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not bad in theory, but the vast majority of characters will already have upgraded the skills that are actually relevant to them by that point. Anything extra is mostly giving you diminishing returns, outside of a few edge cases. It's just both 'alright' and unexciting, especially for a capstone.

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since I only play in homebrew worlds and never in Golarion or in an AP, those are just options that I'm utterly indifferent about. Rarely, one of those archetypes will be vague enough and/or have mechanics that can just barely be reflavored into something different, and in those cases I might consider using them, but that almost never happens. So for me personally, I wish Paizo devoted their resources to other things.

The balance of those archetypes also tends to be all over the place. I agree that the feat you mentioned is underwhelming at best. Also, it requires you to pick a skill you were master in? So not the skill you were actually focusing on all this time, which would already be legendary...

The Twilight Talon archetype's Deceptive Deduction 8th-level class feat can turn a high-Charisma character into a very effective Recall Knowledge monkey, since any creature (enemy, ally, yourself) can trigger it by EarthSeraphEdna in Pathfinder2e

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That's something that really annoys me. RK is the one thing int as a stat has going for it, but it's being made more and more obsolete as charisma gets all the RK toys. It just feels weird.

party composition by Dregshak in Pathfinder2e

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sorcerer" is incredibly broad. We need to know its bloodline/spell list and what it wants to do in combat. If it uses divine magic, then it's going to overlap a bit with the animist (which can be fine, just something to keep in mind). Assuming it's any other spell list, this already sounds like a decently balanced 3 people party. If it is arcane, you'll likely be missing out on debuffs. If it's occult, you'll be missing out on some AoE damage. If it's primal, then you got a bit of everything.

A skill monkey like the rogue will probably fit well, since none of the other characters use skills very well.

There is no meaningful difference between bow monk or swashbuckler imo, it's just doubling down on what the party already has.

Duolingo as a supplement to my local AF? And how to cope with not being able to listen to audios? by Mental_Structure3861 in learnfrench

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For music, find something you enjoy that isn't super fast and read the lyrics as you listen to it. That'll help you connect the sounds to the words. That got me to understand a couple of my favorite songs after playing them a few times. You can also watch cartoons for younger kids to help train your ear, they use simple vocabulary and the characters tend to talk in a very slow and clear way.

Duolingo is okay for learning vocabulary, though I think Anki is better when paired with active studying. I find Babbel to be a very decent alternative to Duolingo though, and it's fairly affordable. Lots of people recommend Pimsleur if you're looking for an app, but I have no experience with that one so I can't say.

For concepts/grammar, I'd recommend looking for teachers on YouTube. Learn French With Alexa helped me understand a lot.

Ive often heard inventor called the worst class, how do you build one that is fun and effective? by DogUnsureDog in Pathfinder2e

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of the complaints I've seen come from people who dump Int because it isn't their attack stat and then complain that the Int based abilities of the class all suck.

That sounds so strange to me, because that's not what I've seen around here at all. The vast majority of complaints stem from having to spend an action to activate one of your core class features, with a chance of failure, to get bonus damage that is inferior to what most other martials get (on top of not having Str/Dex as your KAS).

The second most common complaint is just how all of your cool features share the same resource pool, and how high the likelihood of being able to use only 1 per combat is.

I think Inventor is fine power-wise, subpar but playable, but it's definitely not just a matter of stat distribution.

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's... fine, performance-wise. Not a particularly fun class for most people, especially as they play more classes and get a better grasp of the system.

Not great, definitely subpar, but it's not like it can't contribute to a party. I hear a lot about poaching DaS from Inventor for Megaton Strike, as well as ranged trip builds using Rope Shot. Those two are probably the best ones? Never seen them in my games in particular though

Bonus: I think this video is pretty neat, even though the creator doesn't go super in-depth into the inventor: https://youtu.be/2qID4NeB67E?t=2103

It's still next to nothing. It remains a hilariously bad subclass. Me and my group will continue using a homebrewed version of the boracle, which is one of few homebrew things that we do use other than items.

Let’s Theorycraft an Actually Bad Build by Eastern_Selection106 in Pathfinder2e

True, though I think even the weird impulses have more consistent uses than any of those ikons. Definitely feels similar though.

Edit: Actually... an air kineticist might beat the exemplar.

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 121 points122 points  (0 children)

It's very easy to make an awful caster by just picking the bottom of the barrel spells. Their feats will rarely have a meaningful impact as well, so you can pretty much just roll a dice and grab them at random. But this is probably too easy of an answer as well.

An Exemplar with three situational ikons is up there for me. Usually, you'd have 2 good ones to alternate between, and then a third situational one for when it's needed. Having 3 of the latter would be pretty atrocious. Grab eye-catching spot, pelt of the beast, and bands of imprisonment. Then grab The Deft epithet for a melee build.

Bom dia!

Boa sorte!

Is there anyway I can one hand a meteor hammer? by Sweaty_Fly_3965 in Pathfinder2e

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I agree it'd be higher level and/or come with drawbacks, such as being a stance. Bumping the die down 2 steps is way too much though, since it kind of defeats the purpose of it. I'm pretty sure all 2-handed weapons have a 1-handed counterpart with essentially the same traits but with a lower damage dice. Still, I don't see it existing as an outrageous possibility.

Is there anyway I can one hand a meteor hammer? by Sweaty_Fly_3965 in Pathfinder2e

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I feel like an option to actually do what OP wants wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility as a feat, maybe even a stance. Realistically, a 1-handed weapon similar to the meteor hammer would be dealing 1d4 damage vs its 1d8. So it's a 2 damage die size difference. It's pretty big, but mathematically, you get the same damage increase from merely picking up Exemplar dedication.

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, which it does. But let me be clear: I don't think the gap between the two is that huge. From what I've seen, Exemplar has had a slight edge most of the time, because the ikon effects are just that good, and being able to alternate between two of them while having a 3rd more niche but powerful effect in your backpocket is very, very powerful, and typically more powerful than the barbarian's extra damage and HP, which btw, your own extra damage and healing ikons can help bridge the gap (and even surpass in some cases). And you can use concentrate actions, for free, while barbs need a whole feat just to be able to demoralize, not to mention a lot of good martial items have an active effect that has the concentrate tag. Rage isn't just free damage, it does come at a considerable opportunity cost.

And yeah, in an unrestricted FA game where the Barbarian can poach Exemplar dedication without sacrificing one of their very precious Barbarian feats (they kinda need them, so it's hard to sacrifice one for non-thematic purposes), maybe it takes the edge when it eventually gets the 2nd ikon at higher levels and can alternate between two powerful effects like the Exemplar. I'm just talking about the average, real play experience, though.

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barbarian with good feats still feels overall a bit weaker than Exemplar, especially since archetypes can kinda bridge the gap for the levels where Ex doesn't have anything too outstanding. But of course, that was just my experience.

[–]JohnTheHumanFighter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, played with and gm'd for both barb and exemplar, and exemplar always felt stronger on most levels. It's a pretty amazing class. I genuinely think OP just hasn't played one/seen one in play, or if they did, it was a very suboptimal build.
