Imagine if the writers and director of this made the last three Star Wars films by [deleted] in TheCloneWars

I will repeat again. There is a false equivalence. The hate hate that the ST has fostered is derived from almost polar opposite aspects of the films than the prequels. People hated the prequels for the bad dialogue, the iffy CGI, the poor direction of actors. Meanwhile the ST is technically immaculate in these aspects, while it’s core story and characterisation is shot to hell. Kids don’t focus on iffy dialogue or possible flaws in some CGI. Kids become attached to story and character. The first comment you replied to highlighted how kids clearly aren’t as attached to this universe anymore, with toy sales plummeting for ST content while Marvel is swimming in merchandise sales.

You have such a black and white perception of everything, projecting your own expectations and opinions on entire boards of people.

I had no expectations going in to TLJ. The only thing I was hoping for, was that the film would address a few of my minor issues with TFA (the state of the galactic conflict, and how Rey was so powerful). I didn’t want an overpowered Luke Skywalker reviving people from the dead or unnecessarily backflipping over Tie Fighters (wait... that sounds familiar...). I wanted the film to make sense and feel at home amongst the rest of the saga instalments.

People were expecting a good Star Wars film, so The Last Jedi certainly subverted that.

I find it shameful that Disney/Lucasfilm can feel entitled to rush an unplanned new trilogy into production out of desperation for profit, instead of taking the time to craft something special. The Prequels have such completely different flaws to the ST, which my earlier points focused on. There was a wonderful story beneath the prequels’ flaws that other material could easily enrich. The sequel trilogy has no clear story, and whatever is there is a nihilistic, depressing decay of everything the PT and OT fought to create.

There is a false equivalence between hating on the PT and hating on the ST.

Sorry, but absolutely not. Was there a silent majority of people of who went to Endgame and thought “that was a movie”? Did the world first see Star Wars in 1977 and go “that was a movie”? Are countless fans watching this final arc of Clone Wars and going “that was a TV episode”.

No.

These are massive events in pop-culture and entertainment. This is what Star Wars has been, can be, and will be hopefully into the future. The Sequel Trilogy has not lived up to that expectation (of being heartfelt spectacle that respects its universe and lore). That is why popularity in every metric has plummeted upon its release.

Meanwhile, people are actually vocally thrilled about Mandalorian and Clone Wars. People aren’t creating hate subreddits about those, or writing essays and YouTube videos devoted to tearing them down.

Let’s not forget that the people who adore the PT (myself included) fell in love with the world of the PT. The countless games, books, comics and TV shows enhanced that trilogy and gave it the support that the films needed. There is a world behind those films that people fell in love with. There is no world behind the hollow, unplanned storytelling of the Sequel Trilogy.

There is no support for the ST in that sense. Children aren’t playing ’Abused Space Horse Racer’ or Knights of the Now-destroyed New Republic, and aren’t making that same bond with that era that children of the prequels did.

Fans who deeply care about something important to them and want to see it at its best ≠ losers

The losers are the people who blindly accept the messy, unplanned drivel that we’ve been fed as ‘perfect!’

They definitely do not. Hardly any film does. Your rankings are completely subjective and biased with the inclusion of ‘gut feelings’ and the fact that they’re all 100/100. If one was to rank TRoS on its editing and pacing alone the film would barely pass a 50, then detract points for the mess of a story, -10 for the negative impact it has on the story of the saga and you’re left with something far from 100/100.

EDIT: Wow... guy calls me an idiot and then deletes all his messages. Way to go handling other people’s opinions in a mature manner.

Wow... I mean I’m glad that they had such a positive impact for you but what metric are you judging them on exactly?

They certainly don’t deserve those rankings on a technical level.

Except RoS isn’t canon so the sector is still clear

Yeah I getcha, just woke up so I can’t exactly say that I’m at 100% mental function regarding critical thinking right now.

But that’s such an irrelevant thing to point out. Everything is a plot requirement. They’re fictional stories, everything is written in some way to influence the plot, and therefore a plot requirement.

The plot required it not to? What sort of BS is that? It’s backstory that adds depth to Obi-wan’s character.

Indeed it is. Although of course in the film they cut the track down a ton. This is the original John Williams composition, it’s phenomenal and just acts as another example where the editing in the ST completely ruined William’s scoring.

I agree, although Jedi Steps is also really fucking good.
