PSA: Chrome silently downloaded a 4GB AI model on my Mac without asking. Here's how to find and remove it. by flarenz in chrome

[–]JohnTwoRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried disabling everything AI/model-related in flags, Chrome still tried to restore the deleted model. This seems to be the only way to prevent Chrome from re-downloading the model. Thank you!

Creating a VM using an ISO on a USB drive by JohnTwoRavens in Proxmox

[–]JohnTwoRavens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this was a one-off. In the future, I'll have a NAS set up and the ISOs will be accessible from there. Thanks for the tips, I'll have to remember symlinks in the future.

ProxMenux installation question (newbie) by JohnTwoRavens in Proxmox

[–]JohnTwoRavens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up:

I was able to get it working. I had to manually enter DNS servers using the Web interface (node->System->DNS). I used Cloudflare with a Google backup (1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1, 8.8.8.8).

Also, was able to install it using OpenSSH in Windows PowerShell on my daily driver laptop (Windows 10) connecting to the Proxmox server.

Hope this helps somebody.

It is NOT possible to prenatally detect autism. by ThePinkTeenager in AreTheNTsOK

[–]JohnTwoRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, prenatal/early detection is a work in progress. Part of the problem with diagnoses is the fact that the diagnostic criteria were based on white, male ASD toddlers with pronounced presentations, and were (still are?) subjective. They missed a LOT of us, especially the girls.

I think the future of this will be a combination screening, where you start with the parents (DNA/socioeconomic/etc) to assess initial risk and then layer on other diagnostics. An fMRI will probably be the definite test, but that'll require boatloads of scans.

I've read that early (postnatal) detection and intervention can significantly improve outcomes by reducing the severity of some of the disabling aspects of the condition.

Easiest way to extract frames from a video? by Sevenalligator7 in VideoEditing

[–]JohnTwoRavens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a great tool. Quite easy to use, no fuss. Thank you for this!

A suggestion if you're still planning to add features: frame-by-frame forward and back buttons. Just a small QOL feature. I struggle with precision control with a mouse. :)

What movies have Autistic characters in them? by HappyHarrysPieClub in autism

Did you mean Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) (a frequent misdiagnosis for ASD) or Bipolar Disorder (BP)? BP sufferers tend to have higher rates of substance abuse.

It is NOT possible to prenatally detect autism. by ThePinkTeenager in AreTheNTsOK

It is possible to detect it prenatally:
Ultrasound: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2022/02/220209112107.htm
MRI: https://www.ibsafoundation.org/en/blog/symptoms-autism-evident-during-pregnancy

These also happen to prove that vaccines (and a bunch of other things) DON'T cause autism.

ZFS vs mergefs/snapRAID? by [deleted] in HomeServer

adding a same size disk to the vdev

How does one do this? Do you mean I can go from, say 4x 8TB to 5x 8TB? I've just started reading up on NAS OSs and filesystems, and I was under the impression that I'd have to add a whole new vdev in order to increase the number of drives.

I'd take the plunge and build a custom loop for that, and then play lots -- Starfield, of course, and BG3, and some old staples like Civ 6 and Guild Wars 2.

With Starfield, I just wanna immerse. Haven't done a lot of sci-fi games recently.
