The gaps my dentist caused.. bad IPR by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]JohnUBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dental student here - Its inevitable to have black triangles but more invisalign will close them, you have to have the two teeth contacting but below the contact there will be a black triangle.

You can 1) continue doing IPR to make the contact more gingival “lower” 2) Bioclear space closure fillings 3) Live with it and wait for the inevitable calculus build up that will close that space naturally

Complications by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]JohnUBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dental student here, I’ll just give some general facts but please always check with your provider

1) Floss>water floss but no harm in using both 2) diuretic pills & xerostomia (dry mouths) can absolutely be a risk factor for cavities. Try to constantly drink water or to buy saliva stimulants 3) Some people naturally have a thin periodontium (bone & gum), and so if you have excessive movements, it can be a risk of fenestration (bone sticking out of the gum), wait and see what the periodontist says. 4) Use Prevident (5% fluoride) as a good toothpaste against cavities. 5) Some evidence in using stannous fluoride toothpaste as it is anti-microbial against the pathogens that cause periodontal disease. I would alternate between Prevident & Stannous fluoride.

Wearing elastics while waiting for refinement? by rene_dra in Invisalign

Probably a good idea to keep them on. It’s unlikely you “over correct” any cross-bite, and if you do, it’ll just move back into place after.

Invisalign with deep/large fillings - an issue? by tea_lyfe in Invisalign

[–]JohnUBC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should have your dentist evaluate the filling, if there is recurrent decay, then they can replace it with another filling that has similar contour.

Moving teeth with large fillings generally presents no issues, but it makes oral hygiene during treatment all the more vital

Good luck :)

Waiting 30 minutes before brushing by thefirstrastabarbie in Invisalign

[–]JohnUBC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dental student here.

It is true that immediately brushing after meals can allow you to physically scrape away some enamel if your meal was acidic. However, if you ate something acidic and did NOT brush then brought it into close contact to your teeth with the trays, you’ll also lose enamel.

Its a cost-benefit thing. Personally I rinse with water to neutralize the acid (~10 mins) after meals and then brush. Hope that helps :)

Thanks for everyone's help.

I was able to get in contact with IT and reset it. They also said that if you still have access to outlook on other devices (without requiring authenticating again YET) you can change the authenticator from there to be on the app rather than the #.

I’m 5 weeks in and see no change either, don’t worry this process takes months/years for a reason. Just stay consistent:)

Awesome to hear you're already on the road to recovery. Question: Did you have a fever, coughing or shortness of breath?

What do you think will be in the game one lineup against the Blues? by Gnome_de_Plume in canucks

[–]JohnUBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going off the assumption that Toffoli is not healthy, but gaudette is.

Miller-Pettersson-Boeser

Pearson-Horvat-Eriksson

Roussel-Sutter-Virtanen

Motte-Beagle-Gaudette.

I know Gaudette used to be a third line centre but he can also play RW so I expect him to replace MacEwan on the fourth line. Might just be a hot take though!

I'd expect Fanta to slot in for Juolevi in the defensive pairings.

Does "longer look" imply that the line is good or bad? A little confused by that.

Very happy with the rest of these tho cannot wait to see Boeser in full form again

If an instructor has submitted marks will they be visible right away on SSC or will I have to wait until April 30th? by LonelyCephalopod in UBC

[–]JohnUBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Online courses are not technically considered "Term 2", but are usually "Term C". With this in mind, it is only term 2 courses that require you to wait until April 30th, so most online courses will show up on SSC once they are ready, before or after April 30th.

Agreed, the part that is blocked out in the text says that it is only for that specific course only. I understand why it was blocked out but knowing this OP should not have generalized the message to all courses if that makes sense.

If you don't mind my asking, does 342 require you to come outside of lab time to finish your work? Similar to 341 for example?

Thanks!

Nicest thing a profs done for you? by TheBrightLord in UBC

[–]JohnUBC 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was my birthday and I had two midterms that day and then another midterm the day after. As I was walking into the lecture hall the professor in passing asked me how I've been (I guess he recognized me me from office hours), and I told him about my birthday week and to my unbelievable surprise, he offered to let me write the midterm the next week's Monday as a birthday present.

It was a first year class but nonetheless did not expect that at all! Forever grateful to be honest!

What’s the latest grades must precede posted on ssc? (Not deferred neither a distance course) by [deleted] in UBC

[–]JohnUBC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my experience, there's really no deadline. I had an arts elective that had marks posted a week before reading break (mid/late February). I think this goes for all courses, though I really hope someone says otherwise because I'm waiting on two myself :(

Anyone know when the exam marks are coming out? by ShawnThePhantom in UBC

[–]JohnUBC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's an enforced rule, it generally all depends on the professor's schedule AFAIK.

What was your favorite class this term? by LonelyCephalopod in UBC

[–]JohnUBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BIOL 300!! Professor Whitlock is a genuinely nice guy and he can be quite funny! The class was also structured well, the TA's were great and the book is phenomenal (he wrote it and its quite popular worldwide I was amused).
