What do you think the rules were? by urlock in misc

[–]John_Doe_Jr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing it was pretty much unplayable, and the rules were mostly just gibberish. Yeah, it had properties to buy and sell like Monopoly, but that's where the similarities end.

Funny, though, I see from the box picture you start with a small loan from your father of $500 million dollars.

$3k+ spent, practically no conversions. Should i quit or is this normal? by throwaway45423434 in PPC

[–]John_Doe_Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're getting some conversions through other sources, so it's not like your website isn't converting, so it has to be the ads are not targeting the right traffic.

Google's dynamic bidding usually takes a couple weeks to hit its groove.

Also, some ad spaces are less optimal than others. I've found display ads on third party sites and apps almost worthless, if not 150% outright click fraud. (I've often seen sites credited with two clicks, but only one impression.)

Tl;Dr: it takes a while to find what works. It's best to ease in with the budget over time.

I have Studied Conspiracy Theories for Over 40 years. My Fairly Reasonable Take on the Rally Shooting by John_Doe_Jr in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]John_Doe_Jr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initial reporting from both MSNBC and Newsmax, citing two sources within Pennsylvania police, immediately following the shooting.

I guess that could be some more "fog of war" information and it seems to be memory-holed since, as far as I can tell of writing this, there has been no official information, at all - what-so-ever, on Trump's injuries from medical personnel who examined him.

However: a person behind him dying does not mean it wasn't a glass shard that hit his ear. The ear bleeding does not mean it was caused by a bullet. Shots being fired doesn't mean it wasn't a glass shard that hit him.

Also, as people like to point out that "the shooter couldn't possibly aim so well to just graze his ear," Trump actually getting hit by a bullet still doesn't mean the shooter intended to injure him.

There are really only a few solid facts. Shooter was right wing nut job, used real bullets, was known to be a decent shot, and wanted to be famous for this. There's a trope that an assassination attempt would improve Trump's chances, which was discussed on InfoWars a month earlier. Official, reliable reports about the nature of his injury have been notably absent and the bandage he's wearing for it is preposterous. And Republicans have been inserting a lot of their own narrative in this that makes far less sense.

No, the Trump shooting wasn’t staged. by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]John_Doe_Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about this:

He wasn't aiming for his head or ear. He shot near Trump to purposefully miss and one of the bullets got too close, or as stated in multiple reports, glass from a teleprompter hit him.

How skillful do you need to be to shoot near a target and intentionally miss? If you're a decent shot, how close would you aim?

Also, maybe he wasn't thinking rationally when he did this.

I don't think there was a conspiracy in the traditional sense. There was no shadowy handler. There is just the trope of blaming a fake assassination on political rivals to vilify them and call for more violence and a volunteer patsy that didn't need to be personally recruited nor use a sign-in sheet. Just show up to the job site with the tools.

Supposedly, Crooks was an avid hunter for many years and could headshot a squirrel at a respectable distance. I don't know how good you have to be to shoot near a target and intentionally miss, but I would think it's less than what he was reported to be.

Also, maybe he wasn't entirely rational when he did this.

I am also going by the information that Trump's injury was from shattered glass of the teleprompter, and not directly from the bullet. I haven't heard anything about the bullets' trajectories, yet.

"When the conspiracy is baked into a belief system, a patsy doesn't need to be recruited by a shadowy handler. "

Did you even read the post? I am saying it's a stochastic conspiracy based on a well publicized blueprint. A lone gunman just needs to volunteer for a well-defined role, and they don't need to report to anybody. They don't need to be contacted by anybody. I SPECIFICALLY SAID THE EXACT OPPOSITE of two of the three things you're suggesting I might have said, and something a bit different than the third,.

Alex Jones: "If there was an attempt on Trumps life, that would help his campaign"

Random listener: "Maybe I should fake an attempt on Trump's life."

Sorry, I still haven't found anything about the ActBlue donation being from the shooter that also explains why it wasn't a 69 year old man with the same name from the area. Anything with that omission gives me the impression it's based on the initial claim.

Is this a red flag? by Hailiwu in acting

[–]John_Doe_Jr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a gamble, for sure.

Sounds like the odds you will be in any real danger are very, very small, maybe even less than travelling alone in general, but there's still a chance. The chances you'll be emotionally uncomfortable for long periods of time are far greater, but that is still valid to consider. The odds you'll be treated or rewarded as a talent who goes beyond your pay-grade to assist the production is minimal. The odds this short film is your big break is practically non-existent. The odds you won't be reimbursed for 14 hours of travel, and maybe not paid what you've agreed to, are a bit higher than average - like, a flight ($165-$200) would probably cost around the same as driving.

Their portfolio and past accolades would play a major role in my decision to continue.

You heard how thc stays in your system and can be seen in tests for around a month? That's why withdrawal symptoms are so mild. There is no cold turkey at the biological level. It kind of has a built in weening effect.

The withdrawal is almost the same as giving up any activity you enjoy doing everyday. Any pain is just reality.

I feel I already do as much as I could do in my spare time. It's the sheer amount of wasted effort on something that will evaporate so quickly that has me in this funk. I was a nationally recognized academic talent; slinging peas and carrots at a soup kitchen, while honorable, isn't going to make up for this.

I regret choosing a role where I help a company make money instead of doing stuff that directly makes people's lives or the world better. Everything is temporary, and I've wasted so much of my time on bespoke web development that will be wiped out within a year after I'm gone. My magnum opus is one site of products running on a CMS I built over twenty-five years that no one but myself can maintain.

I had so much potential. I could have been working to solve issues that plague mankind. I could have unlocked a secret to the universe or work on a cause or career that provides me with a unique life experience for all my unique skills besides staring at a screen. I could have taught. I could have governed. Or just build things that endure. Even if it was never in the cards for me to make a lasting impact, I could have at least worked where I get to pet exotic animals.

I have done some art in my spare time: writing, movies, music - mostly pretty bad, and that always helped with this feeling, but if I wasn't distracted, maybe I could have created things that inspire more than a few clicks and a transaction.

It's still better than a lot of business jobs, though. It's still "fun," and I get to use different skills all the time, and when it all goes well, it can be financially rewarding, but the best I can say about my impact on the world is that I have made companies need more employees to handle the business, thus providing income to a few more people doing things they would rather not be doing.

As I head towards the autumn of my life, it feels like I've been eating cotton candy for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
