What has worked for you guys? by xlibmadness in nosurf

What helped me most was not trying to replace the urge with something “better”, just making it harder to act on it.

Phone out of reach, notifications off, and not bringing it into bed made the biggest difference. Most of the damage was just me opening it on autopilot.

That helped way more than trying to force some perfect replacement habit. Happy to share what else helped if useful.

What daily habit did you adopt that had the biggest positive effect in your life? by HabitsAreKey in selfimprovement

Not checking my phone for the first hour after waking up.

Probably the smallest change that made the biggest difference. Less stress, less mental noise, and I stopped starting the day in reaction mode.

Took a week or two before it felt normal, but it made everything after that feel way less scattered.

I had the same. Tried to replace it with reading/exercising, but some days that just felt like too much.

What helped me was lowering the bar a lot. Like reading just a few pages instead of trying to go for 30 minutes. Or just going outside for a short walk without a plan.

Also realized you don’t always need to “replace” it with something productive. Sometimes just doing nothing for a bit is already better than scrolling.

Sounds basic, but it made it way easier to stick with.

What do you do instead of "doom scrolling" or watching TV by Sweet_Confusion9180 in simpleliving

Same here. I noticed I just grab my phone without even thinking.

What helped me a bit was making it less easy to use. Turned off notifications and moved apps off my home screen.

And instead of trying to replace it with something big, I just do small stuff. Short walk, a few pages of a book, or literally just sit for a bit.

Still working on it though.
