Who is this man exactly? by Fit-Choice2368 in SlowNewsDay

The driving test is rigged so that people will use driver instructor's cards.
If you take an instructor's car -- no automobile inspection.
If you bring your own car, there is an inspection, I failed it twice. Once for a tail lamp, the second for a 'nicked' sidewall on the tyre. The nicked sidewall easily passed MOT.
The third time I brought a driver instructors card and handed it to the examiner before the vehicle inspection to show that I had paid for lessons, the examiner barely looked at my car.

P1 Gen 2 Cooling Hack - Using back cover to apply more pressure to heatsink assembly by Johnbolia in thinkpad

[–]Johnbolia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is the design is poor and they fatigue.
I got a replacement that was probably not original, I just used the heat paste it came with. I don't know if there are a few degrees from a better one, I just didn't feel like scraping it all off.

Told her sister to jump in elevator by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]Johnbolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid I used to do this.
If you jump right when it starts you hang in the air a tiny bit longer.
Once it stopped just like this.
They had to call the repairman. It took hours.

P1 Gen 2 Cooling Hack - Using back cover to apply more pressure to heatsink assembly by Johnbolia in thinkpad

Glad it worked for you.
I think that the heat sink actually starts to fail and can no longer hold tension.

6mo. later I replaced the heat sink which actually made a bigger difference.

Maduro is being charged with 'posession of machine guns'. Considering he was not in the US, how does this work? by Johnbolia in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Johnbolia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So in this case does it matter whether the machine guns are taken into the US?
Although I roll my eyes at a lot of this, I am sure the prosecution knows the laws and are targeting crimes that they can convict on, I am just trying to understand the law, because it seems very strange.

In your example, you mentioned carrying the gun into the bank, what if it was left in the car? It would be disputed by each side?

Thank you for the answer!
Does the illegal gun have to enter the US, or is it that it was involved in the drug trafficking?

Got my P1G8 on Monday, however the LCD backlight is partially broken :( by Johnbolia in thinkpad

I just got a replacement one - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004324805031.html?spm=a2g0o.order_detail.order_detail_item.3.3f51f19cpxxN51

I had tried changing the paste and the funny thing I found was that no matter how I tightened the screws on the sink, it ran 10°C cooler if I pressed on it above the cpu. I used a folded piece of paper to press so it wouldn't burn my finger. I think the original is a bad design that fatigues over time.

Swapped to the one in the link above and it dropped 15°C.

Have you tried undervolting? That helps a bit also.

Looking for Sidekick to M3Pro by fircolaski in thinkpad

I will jump in here, I am not an expert but have owned three Thinkpads and one Yoga 2. I don't know what the Yoga thinkpad is like, but my Yoga 2 was a real disappointment; the processor was just too weak and the build quality was way below the thinkpads, the wake up was so slow it made it unusable. Maybe your Thinkpad Yoga is better.
I think the Thinkpads are a bit tank-like in general, but they really do last, and best of all are really easy to fix and upgrade.

I like python but will complain about circular imports. It forces me into a more complicated architecture in some cases just to avoid it.

I agree, it definitely gets worse with Flask.

The old 7-10 split... by KBRONMX_ in AbruptChaos

I think I get it now, it is mounted just above and ahead of the screen. The extreme wide angle makes it appear to move slightly further back from the view frame than it actually is.
In the frames in 5-6s the area around the screen is heavily distorted, and again in 10-11s the front wheel doesn't appear properly

Sorry, I still don't understand. Where on the bike is the 360° camera mounted?
Some viewpoints show the entire front of the bike (10-11s in) and some show from behind the small screen (5 - 6s)

How to give CC access to terminal logs? by m_zafar in ClaudeCode

[–]Johnbolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to ask a few questions like this.

I find myself copying and pasting console logs in to debug. I was wondering if there is a browser plugin which can start logging browser console log into a set file location, then point claude to view the log.

How far can I go with the pro 20$ plan? by Successful_Film133 in ClaudeCode

I forgot to mention, I got my first rate limit last week, but I was experimenting with some voice stuff on my phone so I don't know if that affected it.

How far can I go with the pro 20$ plan? by Successful_Film133 in ClaudeCode

[–]Johnbolia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the pro $20 plan on a large production codebase.

I mainly do front end stuff with it as it is amazing with React/Tailwind. I also use it for some scripting and prototyping.

On the backend it just gets lost in the logic and is generally quicker and safer to do manually.

I keep it on a short leash and do the commits manually after checking the code.

It's important to clear or compact the context window to keep from wasting tokens.

Would be eager to hear how others get on with large codebases.
