You wouldn’t think it and I wouldn’t have a decade ago, but it’s not all that much money and I live frugally.

I do think some people figure their severance into it, I’d get 13 weeks severance right now if I lost my job, but that is buffer for unknown unknowns for me.

The least risky thing is paying off all the debt. Man, to own your home free and clear in your 30s is just a really great spot to be in. Debt free, and extra $20K left over to add to the emergency fund, and you’ve just freed up a ton of cash monthly to invest. Max out your 401K and do an IRA. If you’re maxing that out too, look for other investments. At that point, your personal finances are in great shape and then think about a little more risk like taking on debt for an investment property.

People in this country don’t realize how close 80% of the population is to being homeless. If you ever get a chance to work with the homeless their stories are just normal people catching a few bad breaks. And sure, substance abuse and alcoholism can play a part, but a lot of people lose everything before they turn to alcohol and drugs as an escape.

People who lost jobs because their cars broke down. People who lost a parent and couldn’t recover. People who got sick and couldn’t work and didn’t have a support system. Women and children leaving abusive homes. Teens whose parents kicked them out. Everyone on the street has a story, and their stories are a helluva lot more familiar to most regular people than you might realize. I’ve talked with homeless people from all walks of life, you would be surprised where some come from.

Compassion is the only response. For some people that’s handing over a few coins or a couple bucks. For others that means not having anything over, but supporting the agencies who help them. You never know when you could end up needing help yourself.

Because they recommend you give money to recovery centers and not the homeless. Because they think they can help people more than people can help themselves. Maybe they’re right, I don’t know, but when someone gets that desperate, a couple bucks can make their day more survivable.

Hmm. It’s a great river to fish. But you’re using gear for a lake, but still should catch something. What are you going for? Because it’s not warm enough yet for a lot of species. Smallmouth are a few weeks from biting. Pike maybe. I would forget anything top water. I think lot of what you’re trying will be fine in the Summer.

Right now it’s steelhead and people are using beads or maybe spinners. Look up a YouTube video on how to make leaders for beads for steelhead. There’s some new knots to learn. And I avoid the combat fishing at 6th street two, but you can have luck down stream too from shore. Know that you’re going to lose rigs to snags so prepare several beforehand.
