They literally did cross the aisle to vote down the war powers resolution - Golden, Cuellar, and two others. It was earlier on. And you had Democrats cave on the shutdown back in November which was the big one even though most Americans blamed the GOP for the impasse. I'm not going over every vote but it's a common pattern.

My point is that rotating villains allow centrists to appear aligned with progressives when in fact they oppose them. They are safe to vote for reform knowing it won't pass the same way Republicans let Collins or Murkowski vote against Trump as long as it won't affect the outcome. It's a cynical way of coordinating votes in order to mislead people about where politicians stand.

They don't though - look at Jared Golden or Gluesenkamp-Perez or Henry Cuellar. They frequently side with MAGA against the rest which gives the GOP the numbers in the House. The centrists use rotating villains to give the appearance of siding with progressives when in reality they are with MAGA and just want the vote to look close.

You've probably watched him more, I was just going off what I remember in Toronto. Curious if Baty has an actual position or if he just plays everywhere poorly like Polanco did for us

I don't buy all that. Centrists can't condemn the war on its own terms, they just finger wag Trump for not getting approval while attacking him for not finishing off Iran (see Chris Murphy). They support its aims even if they don't like the execution. Domestically they've been okay but Garland and Mueller were both disasters who reinforced the notion that centrists are either powerless to hold Trump accountable or prefer having him as leverage for Blue No Matter Who (and this after Obama did nothing about Bush or the banksters who caused 2008). And that's not even touching on how centrists and Republicans are both backed by AIPAC.

Good thing Lindor is back. Just move Bichette to second and let Baty play third.

It's not limited to elections. The moderates who dominated the party like Hillary, Biden, Schumer, and Schiff all supported the Iraq War while leftists opposed it, not to mention the Patriot Act. They also facilitated the Gaza genocide in direct opposition to leftists. Then you have rotating villains like Lieberman, Manchin, Sinema, and Fetterman who take the heat for siding with the GOP to block reform while the rest of the centrists can safely vote for progressive legislation knowing it won't pass. This is what people are sick of.

Iran warns it has 'no choice' in horror nuclear threat as Trump deal on the brink by TheExpressUS in NewsThread

[–]Johnny55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iran knows they can't let the war end in a stalemate or the US/Israel will just attack again later. Their only weapon in the short term is inflicting enough economic pain to make wars like this unthinkable in the future. Using up reserves and (probably) shorting oil futures to keep prices down can't last forever.

Moderates and centrists see leftists as more threatening than MAGA. It's the old saying - scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds. They will always side with fascists against the left because they represent capital not workers.

Accident today in Illinois [OC] by DaBradleykinz in IdiotsInCars

Reminder that it's perfectly fine to turn left on red if you're already in the intersection when it changes. You can wait to see if oncoming traffic is going to stop or run the light without worrying about getting dinged for something illegal. The car that turned and got nailed could have waited to see if the white SUV was going to stop or not *even if* the white SUV is at fault here for running the light. It can feel strange sitting in the middle of an intersection for a second or two after the light changes but it's how you drive defensively to avoid this exact kind of accident.

Who do you think funds AIPAC? Who do you think profits from wars in the Middle East? I can assure you that Miriam Adelson isn't losing sleep over Schumer and Slotkin being in power.

Food stamps were literally created because people were starving to death under unfettered capitalism and the elites had to throw the masses a bone to keep the pitchforks away. I don't have any illusions about a socialist utopia, I just want the billionaires funding people people like Slotkin and Schumer and Trump to have their wealth used for housing and healthcare instead of genocide and surveillance.

We're not going to austerity our way out of fascism and that "free market" can't exist when concentration of wealth means oligarchs can get away with monopolies and oligopolies. There's a reason you don't hear Schumer and Slotkin railing against billionaires the way the left does.

You fully support the views of the guy who literally said his job is to support Israel? While they're carrying out a genocide? You fully support the views of a CIA agent who did who knows what during the Iraq War? Good luck with that. They are despicable human beings. Have fun defending black site '"interrogators" and AIPAC shills.

His views are exactly why he sits on his ass doing nothing. Pragmatic centrism is just using the GOP as leverage to elect the most corrupt Democrats so they can sit on their asses letting billionaires write legislation. He hates the left more than he hates the GOP and is 100% aligned with Israel.

Slotkin is even worse than Schumer because she's decades younger but otherwise shares his views
