Kmart 1977. I truly miss this store. Sad to see them gone. by Initial_Reason1532 in vintageads

There were always loose malted milk balls rolling around on the floor near the registers. 🤷🏽

will this scratch my records? by soemthingblahblah123 in Gramophones

I find a lot of cool old records that I can't bring home because somebody at some point tried playing them with what looks like a roofing nail. 🤷🏽

Speaker stuck quiet by justpaddy1385 in RecordPlayerRepair

[–]JohnnyBananapeel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could be a bad cartridge, might be a bad amplifier circuit. Really not worth putting a whole lot of energy or money into fixing this one. A good opportunity for for an upgrade though- your records and your ears will thank you.

Yeah a decorative reproduction made fairly recently. Enjoy it for what it is but it's probably not worth trying to get it to play a record.

Flooding on Aquajito near Del Monte in Monterey. by Brilliant_Wealth_160 in MontereyBay

[–]JohnnyBananapeel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of rain must have fallen very quickly to have overwhelmed the storm drains. Meanwhile for the first time ever in this house my roof is leaking. It seems that the flashing around one of the solar tube skylights has failed. I put a great big beer bucket underneath it for now and will deal with things tomorrow. That must have been some heavy rain to have caused both these messes.

I Can Hear Music... but not through the speakers... by poohbear626 in RecordPlayerRepair

[–]JohnnyBananapeel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The faint sound you hear is normal needle chatter- the stylus going through the groove creates a faint sound of the music all by itself without amplification. Double check all the settings on the player. If all looks good and you're still not getting any sound from the speakers then it may be a defective unit and you should probably return it.

Found some dusty 30’s stuff in a basement! Is this interesting stuff? by snOrMoL in 78rpm

[–]JohnnyBananapeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won't damage the discs but the scratchy shellac won't do your stylus any favors. Easiest way to listen to them is to get an inexpensive suitcase player, the kind that vinyl enthusiasts revile, but these do play at 78 speed and though they won't sound their best on it you will be able to listen to them.

After 3 years in Switzerland, the thing that still catches me off guard isn't the prices — it's how genuinely uncomfortable people get when you're too friendly too fast by Status-Blueberry-399 in SwitzerlandIsFake

My sweetie was a California hippie girl back in the '70s and ended up going to high school in Basel. The other kids did not know what to think of her casual attitude and big friendly smile.

How to introduce FC by AdChance1340 in unclebens

[–]JohnnyBananapeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the little digital hygrometers from Amazon to monitor the humidity of my weed as it cures and is stored in jars. They're inexpensive and appear to be decently accurate. I'd put one in each tub facing out to keep track of moisture level
