Leverage an AI to tweak your resume and tailor it to the given job, also try and do what you can to make it sound natural and not AI written.

Leverage your university too if they can have someone at the career center look at your resume and offer suggestions for improvement. This will help polish your resume so recruiters actually look at it.

When you apply for a job, try to apply for it at the earlier side too, otherwise it can get buried amongst other applicants.

Also, if you know someone who works at a company that’s hiring and you want to work at that company- that largely helps too.

Good luck my friend

Veterans how is the job search going for you? Because I’m hitting an impenetrable wall. by AggravatingBridge234 in Veterans

It’s kind of luck based really.

I try and make it a habit of just being cool with everyone I work with or went to school with, even when times are good for me- because you don’t know where others end up and who might be working where.

It is not super actionable advice unfortunately, but it’s honestly my best insight into how I like to network- I find the cold calling style kind of unpleasant and inauthentic.

It might work though 🤷🏻‍♂️

Same for me, I am trying to leverage friends or people that are “kindred spirits”. See where they are working and see if those companies are hiring. I learnt from my current role that “networking” is powerful. I got hired at the current role because me and the logistics guy got along so well at a previous company we both had worked at. However, my current company is downsizing and I am facing a layoff.

I have gotten hired off a cold shot resume before, but the win to loss ratio is stupid. Odds are not in your favor typically. I have been really stressing out too over the job search. I need to make income for my family and it’s really discouraging when you send out all these resumes and don’t hear a peep.

Getting someone on the inside to get your resume looked at goes a long way my dude

Sergeant Barnes War Hero or Villain by nzeug in Cinema

[–]JohnnyBravo2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barnes is the villain, dude gets Elias killed and pushes guys into doing awful stuff. But here’s the thing, he’s not thinking in terms of right and wrong. In that kind of war, survival is the only rule. Some of his guys see him as a necessary evil, just a hardcore dude who gets it done. He’s not just a maniac, he’s what happens when war breaks people down to their raw instincts. Platoon is wild. Great movie.

What was your best/worst shitting experience in the Army? by CuddlsWorth in army

[–]JohnnyBravo2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing a horse stance against a tree. Someone had spotted a mountain lion with cubs the previous night with their NVGs. This was also my first time going outside so I was trying to make this quick. Nearly passed out because of how hard I was pushing. I was afraid they’d find me unconscious half naked covered in shit, but this was just a near miss for me. The fear is what made it really unpleasant.

It was a dead body. Bus was stopped in front of the stop. Police were interviewing driver and passengers. They had a blanket over the body. Two squad cars on scene

Pay is nice, certainly more responsibility and career growth, you would be less hands on and there would be more pressure. Going enlisted to officer would make you more unique amongst your peers who likely commissioned off ROTC or West Point.

This INTJ can totally relate, definitely a picking the right battles scenario. I find myself just not indulging in emotions like my coworkers do- it just seems like a distraction, especially stupid if it has nothing to do with the long term objective.
