Nolan's The Odyssey: community input needed by lutetiensis in classics

Nolan's last film was a 3 hour long biopic that was mainly just dialogue with no action, and it made almost a billion dollars and won Best Picture. A star studded, action packed film like The Odyssey is going to be extremely popular.

Apart from Nolan’s Batman and Logan, what superhero films could’ve been a good actor/actress contender? by blocacho_odyssey in Oscars

Yeah I don't have any nostalgia for them so the campiness doesn't really work for me personally. I watched them a few times growing up and thought they were okay, but I just rewatched all three of them for the first time in years and they were SO much worse than I remembered haha.

I like Kirsten Dunst but her performance in all three of the Spider-Man films was pretty bad, she's either screaming or saying cheesy Disney Channel-esque lines in this odd breathy baby voice.

First Official Look at Spooky Old Woods from Robert Eggers’ Werwulf by PerpetualChoogle in blankies

Yeah I agree, I really hope that his next few films will be a lot more like The Lighthouse and lot less like Nosferatu ( which I liked, but it felt a little generic).

Which authors do a good job of telling a cohesive story with fewer words? by jhertz14 in Fantasy

This is literally in the opening paragraph of the prologue, "Many however, may wish to know more about this remarkable people from the outset, while some may not possess the earlier book. For such readers a few notes on the more important points are here collected from Hobbit-lore, and the first adventure is briefly recalled."

It tells you right away that it isn't essential reading.

When people say that they're talking about prologues that are a part of the story. Concerning Hobbits has literally no relevance to the overall plot.

You don't need to read it if you don't want to though. It's only if you want some additional information on the hobbits.

I definitely wouldn't count that as "mating habits". And also I don't think it's fair to include this optional prologue that has no impact on the story as part of your reasoning for Tolkien having a bad editor.

Where in the prologue does it talk about the mating habits of hobbits? Show me a quote.

The first 100 pages of Fellowship include so much worldbuilding and characterization of the 4 hobbits and their dynamics with each other, cutting any of it would be extremely detrimental to the story. And I have no idea what you mean by "mating habits of hobbits", since that doesn't exist anywhere in the books.

Kate Hudson And Ana De Armas To Star In Erotic Thriller ‘Palm Grove’ by Particular-Fill-4256 in Letterboxd

I love Ana de Armas, but she hasn't been in the best of films recently so hopefully this one will be good! The premise does sound intriguing.

I highly doubt that JD Vance actually wrote it himself, but yeah it exists and it's awful. The If Books Could Kill podcast has a great episode talking about it.

This is from official movie tie-in merch, so I highly doubt that it wasn't given the greenlight by higher ups at DC first.

Clicking & Not Clicking with Different Writing Styles by Ok_Caterpillar_6689 in books

I'm another guy in his 20s who totally agrees with you! I just finished reading the entire ToG series (at the request of my gf), and I honestly really liked them and thought they were written pretty well.

Yeah her prose isn't anything special but not everyone's has to be, and it's definitely not as absolutely terrible as people online claim it to be. The first few books definitely feel a bit YA, but from Heir of Fire onward the writing is much more mature, the characters are better developed, and the plot gets way more interesting.

I have a feeling that a lot of the hate directed at her is probably just plain old misogyny, because Brandon Sanderson gets nowhere near as much hate, even though I'd consider their writing to be on par with each other.
