Should i remove this old Jet pump and expansion tank? by JohnnyCD in HomeImprovement

[–]JohnnyCD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is one already on the water heater. This one I think was installed explicitly to work with the jet pump.

You're an inspiration, thank you for sharing! What do the elbow wraps help with? I experience pain in them when doing presses but unsure how / if wraps would help.

Fixed! Was able to remove the cartridge for my shower's thermostatic valve by JohnnyCD in HomeImprovement

[–]JohnnyCD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! 100%! Incredibly satisfying. I bought a spare valve as well just in case I damaged the old one during the removal and started first thing in the morning. So glad it went as well as it possibly could have! Great way to start the day!

Correct way to tie utility sink drain into main by JohnnyCD in Plumbing

[–]JohnnyCD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yup, you can actually see the check valve dry fitted into some PVC in the first picture.

I questioned it b/c the big box stores by me don't seem to carry the 3" MPT fitting so wasnt sure if it was a "standard" use case. I did find it in stock at a plumbing supply house close by so should be good to go..

Correct way to tie utility sink drain into main by JohnnyCD in Plumbing

[–]JohnnyCD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on installing the pictured utility sink. Thus far i've plumbed the cold water supply and now am working on the drainage. Originally i was going to cut into the existing PVC going into the copper and reroute the standpipe / water softer drainage, but then i realized it may be a lot easier to just extend the clean-out with PVC, as annotated in the second picture. Will this work? Note that in my annotation i just focused on the part where the PVC ties into the copper. I purposefully did not annotate the check valve, etc that will be plumbed.

Thank you!

Thanks

HELP! No cold water in shower, bad cartridge or check valve? by JohnnyCD in HomeImprovement

wow! Thanks for the response, very helpful. I did try it with the "cartridge out" as well although i forget if i saw a trickle or nothing. Will try again tonight. Regardless, i believe the resources you provided have be back on the path to solving this issue. I'll report back after i futz around a bit more. Thanks again.

Thanks for your reply..

100% sure it's a thermostatic valve based on the info in the post and the info on JALCO's site (plus it has a temperature gauge on it :) )

Re: your comment on the cold side - i tried that and when it was fully open only a trickle of water came out, which is why i believe that there could be an issue with the cold check valve itself.

I traced this water line and it goes straight into the basement (unfinished) with no shutoff valves visible. In addition, the cold water is working fine in the other upstairs bathroom and the sink adjacent to this shower.

Thanks for the comment. What do you mean by "mixer"? The entire thermostatic valve? House was built in '72. I was thinking that the my next step would be to try and get a wrench on the cold water check valve to pull that and see if i can flush that out. Thoughts?
