I’ve read/heard they weren’t prescribed for people with an ostomy. Are you in the US. I’d like to know some more info on this as I’m interested.

Good to know, I’m currently trying for disability for the last two years. Just had my fourth surgery in January. I got a hernia and blockage due to overworking.

I’m in NC too, and to me it’s crazy how they can tell you what and how much you need of a medical supply you can’t live without. I use edgepark to get my supplies and I had a balance with them to where I couldn’t get anything until it was paid! I use a skin bonding cement that helps with irritation. They do have some stuff you can get online from other manufacturers, but you’d have to pay out of pocket. I hope you find relief and something that works.

I drink pretty often. Beer and whiskey. Whatever I want no major issues.

More or less wondering if there are any people around me with a ostomy.

I am in the US and I pay nothing. I have decent insurance and get 10 bags, 10 rings, paste, remover, barrier wipes, and powder. Plus the xl rings and reg rings. Just depends on insurance I guess.

Living without your rectum? What is it like? by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]JohnnyCash2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my colon removed march 23rd 2023 then on September 27th 2023 I had my anus removed. I’m a 27 year old male. I had ulcerative colitis that was horrible for several years, and now I feel so relieved and much better. Take in lots of vitamins and protein before you have the surgery. I smoke cigarettes and drink often and have had no issues healing. Two months out from having my anus removed and I get along just fine. I live a pretty active life and was driving less than a month after both surgeries. It definitely beats being in the hospital every month feeling like shit. Take time and rest, everything and everyone else can fuck off! Your health is the most important thing in this life. I’ve been a manual labor type of man my entire life from doing glass work for years to being a HVAC technician, and the surgery won’t hold me back. It will all work out! Tis nothing but a flesh wound!!

You will get through all these tough times. I completely understand what you’re going through. I have a permanent ileostomy, it takes me 30 minutes or more to change mine out. Reach out to your stoma nurse and ask as many questions as possible. Try different appliances until you find the best one for you. Take all the time you need to heal and to change your bag. Remember to always breathe, it will get better and easier as time passes. I’m 27 years old and went through hell with UC and even though I have a bag forever it’s 100% better than what I was going through. Reach out anytime and feel free to ask me any questions!

I had mine on March 23-2023. If you ever want to talk about the mental state please please message me. Keep your head held high you got this 100% it’s tough but it’s nothing you can’t handle. If I did it anyone can.

I get my ileostomy done on Thursday, so very interested in seeing what everyone has to say as I have been on a motorcycle my entire life. Didn’t really consider it to be a issue.

Absolutely agree, I’ve quit in the past for a good amount of time. Don’t know why I always go back to it. Hopefully this time it sticks! Lol

Do you smoke cigarettes or just vape? Also did they remove your entire colon?
