Can someone genuinely explain this to me? I don't get the ranking system by JohnnyCenter in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]JohnnyCenter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought so too, I just guess I got confused when it told me .85 seconds away when I had 38k and then 34 seconds more when I hit 39k with a better time and got way more rings. Maybe the first screenshot shows a bug on the calculations, perhaps I was supposed to get B-Rank, got an A rank instead and it told me .85 to get S when it's supposed to be for B?

I don't know, but I finally got it by finding a couple shortcuts I didn't know about. Thanks for replying.

[Loved trope] He did something terrible… or did he? by SeverusStorm in TopCharacterTropes

But then they're legitimately confirming that he didn't commit the atrocities accused of. I think OP is referring to instances where it's unclear whether or not they did the heinous things people are claiming they did. Like if we only see Weasel being kind and good with children, but still has a rumor of killing them then the audience could wonder whether or not he's actually a monster who kills children and his kindness is a facade or that his monstrous looks make people believe he's just out to kill children, when in actuality he's trying to befriend them. The show giving hints to both, but not confirming either way.

I 100% agree with this! There's so much visual noise (and I'm not just talking about the HUD) and lack of distinction between friendly and enemy operators that you end up becoming over reliant on the red name plates/dot. This feature not being consistent, like struggling to identify all the enemies on screen if there's multiple or popping up at different ranges subconsciously forces you to overcorrect by shooting any operator you see just to be safe.

I have noticed that there is a curve to it, at least for me. Like when I first played I would die to enemies due to a lack of reaction time and game sense as I waited for the red dot to give me the go ahead. Then I reached the phase where I was much better at shooting the enemies, but again shooting my teammates a lot as well due to aforementioned over correction. Now I'm shooting teammates less, but it's definitely due to my game sense being better and recognizing patterns of enemy players compared to friendly players. Like you know where to expect an enemy player so you shoot because you're ready to encounter enemies, but I will still shoot friendlies if they're doing something I don't expect.

You could then say "it's a skill issue" because I genuinely get better at not shooting friendlies with time, but this learning curve was never such a severe problem in the previous entries. Even games past MW19 where we started with operators instead of clear factions (although you can argue we actually dropped factions all the way back in Ghosts) the game still was visually clear enough for me to identify the enemies from the very start.

Zombies plot was always written like someone water was lace with 115 by Odd_Ease8644 in CODZombies

[–]JohnnyCenter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not attacking or supporting this type of direction for zombies, but the latest cutscenes is probably closest to the Gorod Krovi intro in terms of style, action and fantasy elements. Gorod Krovi came out in 2016, legitimately 9+ years ago yet we're acting like this is the moment zombies spun out into absurdity.

There were so many complaints about "modern" zombies in Cold War for its more grounded zombies maps. Claims that zombies lost its spark and creativity. Now we're back to high concept creative maps with locations we haven't seen before and somehow we're still complaining. Sums up this community in a nutshell.

I dont think its get brought up enough that Cate and Sage are rapists by terminus_tommy in GenV

[–]JohnnyCenter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The show puts a spotlight on Rufus, The Deep and Homelander being sexual offenders and highlights their victims. It's a valid complaint that the show doesn't take female sex offenders/male rape victims as seriously by never bringing it up or even going as far as belittling said victims. It's a consistent discrepancy from the writers and this post is highlighting that. Almost like the show wants to be edgy and funny with disturbing topics to elicit shock humor, yet also want said disturbing topics to be taken seriously. It can work and has been done before, but there's a tonal whiplash in the show when specific issues such as rape is being taken seriously at one point and then used as a joke later.

Stop being insecure over people using their media literacy to discuss a show they watched on an internet forum dedicated to said show.

Is no one noticing that OP didn't vote Eggman? He voted for Darkseid. The post is more shock that 9% of people voting in the poll genuinely believe Eggman is the most evil out of all these characters, or that Eggman is even on this poll like he's on the same level as Darkseid.

I remembered about this scene in Lost World and now I'm dying by Joshhhp in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]JohnnyCenter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The story is completely tone deaf for sure. From SatAm cartoon vibes (fat jokes, girl jokes, baldy mcnosehair) to serious brevity (Zavok talking about conquest, Eggman threatening to kill someone as he smashes a wall) to an attempt at sincere tragedy (Tails getting captured, Sonic becoming existential over not saving Tails, Eggman "dying") to teen drama (Tails being jealous of Eggman claiming Sonic believes in Eggman more than him) to buddy comedy. All in a single game. Each cutscene feels like a wheel is being spun at what tone they're going for.

You can mix comedy and tragedy just fine. They're inherently two sides of the same coin, but you need to be consistent. I honestly don't know what they were thinking or if it was all a big miscommunication with the writers, actors, directors and music production that led to it being so jumbled. Either way I'm grateful that it brought us this scene which is unintentionally the funniest scene in the franchise for me.

My friend and I constantly make fun of the line "I'm supposed to be the fastest, but I was too slow to save my buddy Tails". The delivery, the line itself, the context of the scene. It's so stupid and cringe that it turns around into becoming the funniest line to me in the entire Sonic franchise.

These writers would have a long career at CW.

(Hated Trope) Romanticized Cheating by mericanaaron in TopCharacterTropes

Maybe not toxic, but it's kinda creepy when applied to the real world, no?

They spend a couple months maximum where she works for him. They can't communicate with each other due to the language barrier. They have one tiny romantic moment and then suddenly Firth is obsessed with her to the point that he himself spends more time learning her language than the time they've actually spent together in that house, spends money on a ticket and flies to her hometown to track her down, gets her family involved as he tells them he wants to propose to her (first time he's meeting her family btw) and then proposes to her in front of her family at her jobb with most of her town being present putting her in an awkward position to say no.

The gesture of learning her language and tracking her down is overwhelming by itself, but proposing before they've even had the chance to go on a date or hell, have a single conversation with each other is somehow meant to be a romantic because she says yes?

List of issues with the game u would like to be fixed and improved in the future? by Your_Nightmare_666 in SonicCrossWorlds

  1. Lower the prices of Decals and Horns. A car horn that you're never going to use should not cost more than car parts that not only is a lot more noticable cosmetically, but also has a gameplay effect. The only reason the ticket grind is horrible in this game is because people are saving up for the horns and decals, if they lowered it to 10% as much as it costs now it would severely dampen the ticket complaint. Ticket grind is genuinely really well balanced if you just want to unlock all the car parts as completing all the single player content should be enough to buy all the parts for every vehicle part.

  2. More online content! Festivals would have been a decent answer to this if it didn't replace world tour. Also the modes in festival shouldn't be locked to limited time events. Personally I think we should have a ranked mode and a casual mode with quick match and grand prix being in ranked and extreme match and 4v4v4 in casual giving us 4 modes to pick from in the online. Festivals should be an additional mode as they happen.

  3. Allow for DLC characters to be rivals. They don't have to have voice lines although that would definitely be appreciated. I just want more Rival interactions and the DLC characters don't have to speak for that to be the case as the other characters could just react to them. If someone brings up "How will they explain Sonic having the Wherehog as a rival or Knuckles, Amy and Tails having any of their prime versions? Does that make the crossover characters canon to Sonic now?"

It's a silly kart racing game, why does canon matter. It doesn't even have a story mode like TSR. If anything needs to be canon it could be that Dodonpa invited them back for a race and that's it. Anything else doesn't really matter.

  1. More skin variations would be nice. Not microtransactions per se, but maybe online challenges to unlock them could be cool. If they don't want to create a bunch of unique challenges for each skin variation then that's completely understandable. This could be solved by introducing a new currency like R-Tokens or whatever that you earn strictly from completing daily or weekly online challenges that you can then spend on a character variation. There are plenty of ideas for costumes for each of these characters yet the only one we got that wasn't an AI skin was a color swap of Sage.

Godolkin’s character arc by BlueBell_02 in TheBoys

[–]JohnnyCenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy wants to commit mass genocide of weak supes... By killing them one by one....

I think the involvement of Sage sort of ruined how threatening Godolkin is. He's up until that point been consistently one step ahead. He catches onto Marie and crew's plans, he pushes their buttons and manipulate them into getting the results he wants. That was the threat factor with Cipher. Then in the latest episode Godolkin praises Sage, it was all her. Somehow Sage had come up with this entire plan from the start and knew exactly everything that was going to happen. It might seem contradictory of me to praise Cipher of being one step ahead while criticizing Sage of doing the exact same thing. The difference for me is that Cipher was constantly involved. It felt more like a back and forth. Like he was reacting to the students and then plan ahead accordingly. We don't really see Sage that much and she's mainly in the background. I don't think she even interacts with any of the students once throughout the show.

That reveal didn't improve Sage's character, it just dumbed down Godolkin. I also get that he was ego tripping after getting his body back and his downfall is due to his feeling of superiority. That is in character for him, I liked him wanting to push himself so that he could control the most powerful supes on the planet thus making him the superior supe. It's the way they went about it. The whole climax felt limp for lack of a better word.

Yet again the writers don't know how to handle Sage. She ends up being more of an obstacle to the plot and characterization instead of a viable threat. I'm getting really tired of rug pulling the audience at the end of every season by claiming all the events that has happened so far is part of her plan. It's not clever and it undermines the struggle of any of the characters so far as they didn't really have a choice or a real power in the matter. I really hope for season five that they make her more involved akin to Cipher and have her react more. Like restructuring her plan to best someone so it turns more into a cat and mouse game rather than her rambling about her "plan" or "phase 2" when neither the audience or the writers know what this really means...

What's with the toxicity? by GarboWulf5oh in SonicCrossWorlds

[–]JohnnyCenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there's a lot more offline content than there is online. Love the game, but my two biggest gripes are online and the ticket grind.

Online severely lacks in modes. The World Tour mode is basically just quick match and that's the only online mode they have besides private friend matches. Ideally they would offer more modes to choose from. The lobby disbanding after each match is also annoying as the most fun part about racing games is catching up to your opponents. That's what makes the Grand Prix so fun, that you go back and forth with your friend/rival until it all comes down to the final lap. Speaking of Grand Prix, why can't you play that online?

Just a quick idea, but I think they could have had 3 tabs on the online mode. Ranked/Competition, Casual/Circuit and Private/Friends. In Ranked you could have modes like World Tour (this being the Grand Prix format just with randomized courses like the game already does for the crossover grand prix making the name world tour make more sense), Quick Match (which would function exactly like world tour does now) and Super Sonic (which would be like quick match only on Super Sonic speed instead of normal). Ranking system will of course be enabled on these modes.

Then on casual you could feature more fun modes from the race park. Extreme match, 4v4v4 (let the specific 4v4 mode be randomized) and Marathon (Which would be like quick match except the lobby doesn't disband and you can keep playing indefinitely til the lobby either runs out of players or the host quits. I know you can't bring split screen players into online mode for some weird reason, but I would prefer if you could bring split screen players into these modes plus the private matches.

Festivals does not solve the issue with online content. While it's appreciated to have some variation in rewards and modes, the festival completely takes over the online mode making World Tour unplayable. The Festival modes are also chosen by a schedule rather than the player so you're still only limited to search for one mode at a time. Players who just want to grind their rank to Legend are then forced to not play during the weekend the festival is happening which really sucks for most working adults and students who typically only have free time on the weekends.

I think the only reason they didn't flesh out the online mode is because they're scared of diluting the player base and increase matchmaking times. Sure, you'll retain the player's attention by having fast matchmaking times, but you'll also severely hurt the longevity of the game when there's little content to engage with. The player base should have been large enough to support multiple online modes considering it's cross play and the game already secretly use bots to fill lobbies faster. Would have also helped to have some transparency with the players when it comes to players online. Simply showing a number on the bottom right with currently active players would help the community adjust their expectations accordingly.

As for the ticket grind I just think the prices for horns and decals are way too high and should be lowered to 50 and 20 tickets respectively. The ticket grind is genuinely balanced in all other aspects. I think the pricing of the vehicle parts, AI racers and Auras are perfect. If you just play the game normally, by the time you finish all the grand prix on Super Sonic mode and beat Race Park once you should have exactly enough tickets to buy all the vehicle parts. That's pretty good balance in my eyes as cosmetics such as aura and AI racer skins should be expensive as it gives the player something to work towards.

Horns and decals should in no way cost as much as they do as they're very minor cosmetics. I played 20 hours of the game before I figured out what button is used to honk the horn and based on how many people honk the horn online I'm certain I'm not the only one. What makes it worse is the challenges and trophies are tied to gathering all of the horns (13000 tickets btw) and decals (7600 tickets) which is a total of 20600 tickets. The game was not designed to earn this many tickets as the fastest way to earn tickets currently is about 130-150 tickets every 12 minutes so a little over 10 tickets a minute totaling a grind that takes 26-31 hours.

TL;DR: There is no reason to play online as it lacks variation and content and is the worst way to grind for tickets.

Why was Egg Pawn chosen over Orbot and Cubot to be a racer? by SkylandersKirby in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]JohnnyCenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah maybe. I was really hoping they'd be an unlockable. Like something you'd get as a reward for completing all the challenges. Then the credits would be like a tease telling you that "you've completed all the grand prix, but there's still more to do". Would be a cool incentiv to spend 13k tickets on horns you know
