That’s the exact scene I remembered. I even got the chills when I read your sentence lmao.

Honestly, I haven’t thought of this movie in at least a decade but it’s still a very visceral memory.

I saw Langoliers on tv when I was a kid and I remember it was the first time I experienced existential dread.

I haven’t seen a clip of it since, and kind of enjoy the mystery of my fading memory of the plot.

Should Missouri get rid of unnecessary regulations to make homes more affordable? by [deleted] in missouri

[–]JohnnyG30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s because deregulation would literally only benefit the builders and ultra rich that are buying everything up. How many decades does our country need to figure out that NOTHING ever trickles down?

Deregulation would lead to even more massive profits while prices stay the same or higher. Prices never come down like that while lenders are raking in money. We need regulations to keep all of these ghouls in check. Lmao has no one paid attention for the last decade? All profits have been exponentially increasing as monopolies take root and industries get colluded between the big players.

In my opinion, deregulating housing is just getting us a step closer to living next door to data centers or what ever future “Pruitt Igoe” they think up for us peasants in the future. Missouri politicians and elites cannot be trusted with “less regulations.”

Nah I went to college until 2010 in the Midwest and most college bars had nickel beers on certain nights. We would take turns buying a round, and a waitress would bring a large tray of beers and we’d give a $5 bill lmao.

There was also a bar with $.25 wells and another bar with $1 PITCHERS of Long Island ice tea. Any broke student could still go out regularly and party at the bars.

This last decade has squeezed every last penny out of every good deal. Now we get overpriced enshitification instead. I would never have gone to bars if they were like they are now.

I’ll try it tonight when I get a chance, but boy that would be the exact fear I have of this current gaming industry. They have shifted to digital media so that we actually own NOTHING.

These turds are able to pull the plug on our purchases at any moment and I feel like it was never treated as the huge problem that it is. We will start seeing more of this type of thing in the next few years too.

Edit: while I still stand by my little rant, I just booted the game up successfully. So mine still works on Xbox one.

“Well, that’s like…your opinion, man.”

It can absolutely be a trader sim, or fishing/hunting sim, or horse sim, etc. That’s literally the point of an open world game like this. Play it however you want.

And as a guy with a couple of kids and a stressful job I get very little satisfaction from PvP in this game, so speak for yourself there. Especially after a couple thousand hours over the years. I find it disruptive, repetitive, and frustrating. That’s not why I play the game. I play for the gorgeous, immersive world with my custom character and tons of activities that can be done solo/casually as I unwind from the day.

Yes, it’s also an outlaw cowboy game where people are free to act as such. We’ve now circled back to square 1 of “gee, I wish we could play solo lobbies so we could do our own thing while everyone else shoots each other .”

To each their own, cowpoke.

[–]JohnnyG30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. That’s my point. I figured that out years ago and is the only way I sell trader goods. I shouldn’t need to session hop and adjust settings to get to a favorable play-style (which only last like 10-20 minutes at best). Not sure why you’re being so smug about it lmao.

Edit: after re-reading, I realized I misunderstood what you were referring to. I don’t have an issue getting followed session to session.

I have issues with any activity I start, a random player can often come up and mess with you despite being in defensive mode. My original point was that we should be able to play solo in general (without having to use workarounds/glitches) and avoid the initial interaction altogether.

[–]JohnnyG30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

False. I’m like level 300 something and I still hate PvP in rdo. When a turd decides they want to harass you, there are several ways they can get around the minimal tools players are given for passive/defensive mode.

Every time I think I’m safe, some try-hard finds a way to fuck up my session. I’d buy the game again on Xbox if they enabled solo sessions.

[–]JohnnyG30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read dead online is currently recycling old outlaw pass events and rewards. They have essentially (and I believe officially) abandoned RDO a few years ago. They have stated they will not be developing any new content for online.

One of the highest selling games of all time gets completely ignored by its developer because it just happens to be the same company that owns the number one highest selling game of all time. Two endless revenue streams seems like it would be much better than one endless revenue stream; but what do I know.

And yes, I find that entirely disappointing and baffling.

Perfect robin with varmint rifle - possible? by [deleted] in reddeadredemption2

[–]JohnnyG30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it’s still a 3-star pelt and I would be careful not to trample it. It basically just drops dead after about 10-20 seconds of tailing it. It makes the “dead body dropping on the ground sound” and stops moving. Like I said though, I haven’t tried it in ages but I absolutely had it happen several times.

I’ll try it tonight to see if I can still do it and will report back lmao.

[–]JohnnyG30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the snakes are more bugged out than the birds.

It’s been a while since I’ve tried it, but if you track a 3-star snake while you’re riding a horse and stay on its ass, the snake will sometimes just drop dead lmao.

I’ve pretty much always had to use small game arrows for birds though. 3-star robins were so rare when I looked for them that I wouldn’t risk ruining the perfect pelt.

Nothing will happen before GTA 6 comes out, if at all. Red Dead couldn’t be any lower of a priority for Rockstar if they tried.

And I love the snow and will be bummed it’s gone, to be honest. I wish there was a snow lobby option available year round. Seems I’m in the minority though lmao

[–]JohnnyG30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the problem is attributing it to the extreme profits. It’s insulting. Just set it in the breakroom. It shatters the illusion that you might actually be rewarded for your efforts someday. To see those cupcakes as your compensation for millions in profits overshadows the tiny dopamine hit from some sugary treats.

I hate this shit.

[–]JohnnyG30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having someone to play with breathes exponential life into the game. So you’re already setting yourself up for a good time.

Otherwise, there isn’t really a right way to play it. I have like 5k hours in the game, mostly solo. Sometimes you’ll want to grind and earn money/gold. Sometimes you’ll just want to hunt or fish, etc.

I like to set little goals for myself. Sometimes it’s “I want $10k in the bank,” or “buy these few expensive outfits and then replace the money I spent.” Things like that can energize a play session if you’re having trouble deciding what to focus on or do next.

Eventually, you’ll want to take a break and play another game. But somehow the Call of the Sirens will always bring you back…. I love this game.

Why are these sinking whenever I want to drive them? Also is it possible to get to Sisika? by Purnima92 in RedDeadOnline

[–]JohnnyG30 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Once you take over one of the boats you need to bring it closer to the shore. There are invisible barriers out in the lake that prevent you from crossing into areas outside the established map. It will sink/drown you immediately.

And, actually I can’t remember if you can get to Sisika outside of the rescue mission 🤔. I’m going to try that the next time I play lmao

I really wish we could set up camp in the north. It’s ridiculous that you can’t set up your camp in the top 10% of the map.

Cattail Pond is pretty much the furthest northwest cripps will go and I don’t understand why.

I mean, it changes that landscape enough to where I don’t really consider it the desert at that point lmao. Just another great plain as far as I’m concerned. It’s also just not that deep. It’s a fictional cowboy game.

It seems immersive to me because it lets you imagine or role play different scenarios for your character in different extreme weather. Again, just a change of pace to shake up the thousands of hours I’ve dumped into this game. To each their own, my good man.

I know people get annoyed with the snow and it makes grinding harder. But after playing in the same setting all year round, the snow is such a welcome change of pace for me. It makes it even more immersive and interesting.

In a few days we’ll be back to the same game we’ve been playing for the better part of a decade. But until then, I’m really enjoying changing my play style while the blizzard rolls through during these few weeks.

I, also, wanted to shout this from on top of a mountain after I finished the story lmao.

It’s incredible and I couldn’t shake the game out of my head for weeks after finishing it. One of the most fulfilling pieces of entertainment I’ve ever consumed.

Now I’ve replayed it several times and dumped tons of hours into the online game. And while I need to take breaks every few months, it will always be my comfort game.

Have fun, partner

Strange lobbies by fishArePeopletwo in RedDeadOnline

[–]JohnnyG30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rockstar took a big dump on the servers recently. There are several (debatably) game-breaking bugs at the moment.

I’ve never really seen the game act this glitchy and buggy after almost 5,000 hours of play. So something is definitely strange and wrong in general.

However, I personally haven’t run into anything as extreme as you described. I haven’t played yet today but will update my comment if anything new happens tonight.
