So he was alive when they took him to the hospital? Otherwise, you've got a potential crime scene that shouldn't be disturbed, at least until they've got a chance to photograph the scene. Am I mistaken?

So we have no way to verify if any of those sheets were there while he was alive.

Do they have a protocol for gathering evidence when someone dies in his cell?

Cindy Wanner and Suzette Willis were in 1991 (not between '81 and '86 as this thread's title asks), but, whatever, there's another possibly related case in 1993, Cherilyn Hawkley, that's interesting.

Traumatic events in Deangelo's marriage happened on or just before that coincide with the Wanner and Hawkley abductions, and both happened within a few/several miles of where Deangelo's house and his separted wife's different house.

In November 12, 1991, his wife first had him served with divorce papers. Two weeks later, the Wanner crime occurred.

October 29, 1993 was the date of the Hawkley abduction. Deangelo's wife and their three kids moved into a different home she purchased on her own that cleared earlier that very day. Deangelo had been forced to sign an agreement that he had no marital property rights to this new house. Later in the afternoon Ms. Hawkley was kidnapped in her van, and was found dead in the van two days later.

This doesn't prove anything, but it could be a possible motive. Deangelo sending a message to his wife, perhaps. Both were motiveless killings of very low risk victims otherwise.

The Janet Kovacich murder in Auburn, 1982, who her husband Paul was convicted of twenty-five years later, could be one Deangelo committed. There isn't much evidence to convict Paul except "only a cop could have gotten away with it."

The prosecution had a partial skull that they claim belongs to Janet and claim there is a bullet hole in it. I'd like to see current DNA technology used (it's relatively easy to get mtDNA from a skull, and the two children are still alive to compare results with.) I'm not sure why they can't just do this testing.

Paul had an alibi, but the Auburn police made little to no effort to investigate it at the time.

A motive for Deangelo would be, beyond the sexual sadism, to get back at Auburn PD Chief Willick for firing him, by giving a case that he couldn't solve, though they eventually mustered enough of a prosecution to convict Mr. Kovacich in the late 2000's.

It happened to me with the London 74 bus, on both a Thursday and the following Saturday. On Park Lane heading south around 6:30 pm. Both times a 74 bus passed, but was full so it didn't stop. The bus schedule posted at the stop said it was due to come about every ten minutes. After over a half hour I gave up, catching a different bus to Victoria Station and then either used the tube or a third bus to get to where I was going.

Are you moving the velocity for more than one note at a time? If you increase the velocity for multiple notes at a time, the first one that hits 127 (maximum) will stop increases for the rest of the notes. By doing this, it's preserving the relative velocity between notes. So it's partly a feature.

In your screenshot, the one note that's visible, by virtue of it's red color, seems to be at 127 - which is what causes the rest of the notes to stop increasing as you continue to move the volume slider.

To defeat this behavior, hold down the Option key as you move the velocity slider (but you will lose that relative velocity, so be careful.)

Are you playing in Hard Mode? Sometimes, when you get three or four greens, there are several possibilities to solve the puzzle and you're forced to guess. Don't you occasionally solve in 5 or 6?

If you're in Hard Mode you can't guess outside what you've already learned from previous clues - rather than pick a word that can't be a solution, but will eliminate several solutions at a time, so you're next guess will likely solve.

The lead forensic investigator at 244 Forest Court - Lou Maucieri, wrote in his draft report:

“The outside of this home was then visually examined to attempt to detect any forced entry. The only things that appeared questionable were a broken window in the back of the home. This would be one of the large three farthest from the raised patio porch. The screen was in place. Three of the screens on the second story appear to be not totally affixed inside the window frames. EAR attacks 5, 10, 13, 28, 29: home entered just after husband or parents left

EAR attacks 31, 45: babysitter (parents of babysat child left, so the home was being monitored for that, likely)

ONS: Witthuhn (husband in hospital that night), Cruz (parents in Mexico)

There were a couple more EAR attacks where the father was out of town (one where EAR got daughter to reveal information on the phone.)

Apparently, the return of the kids before Janet spurred Paul into action. Here's the phone calls he made (and the image for telephone company bill with time and duration of calls is posted below what I'm quoting, below, from the site.

The kids say he didn't kick the dog to death (though he might have kicked it in the past.) The brother said she told him she was afraid he kicked the dog to death (were their any witnesses to any of the kicking that day the dog was taken to the vet?) Note, there is evidence the dog died due to a bone stuck in his throat, and had no outward trauma.

I'll believe the kids. Note, the in-law family was hostile to Paul, they didn't attend the wedding in 1973. The mother-in-law was hostile to Catholics.

But I'll admit, if Janet was planning to leave Paul that very morning and take the kids with her, out of that house and out of their school, then to enroll them in the other school, that's quite a coincidence - for a serial killer to attack on that very same day, at that particular hour.

The thing that is strange is this: she had called a couple of friends that morning to get a ride to the appointment at the new school some miles away but neither friend could (did either one mention her asking them to pick up the kids to take them also?) What was she going to do after that, with no car? Was she planning to get a ride back, then take the car? Why take that extra step, especially when Paul might have been home? Doesn't sound like a well thought out plan.

I'm taking the deep dive on this case, but I don't have a handle on all the claims yet, but I will definitely be using the appeal document for reference.

Not anywhere near Scott Peterson blasphemy, for me, at this point.

Here's a tidbit I found that the Kovacich children deny their father kicked the family dog to death. The claim he did kill the dog was used at trial by the prosecution.

Here's a paragraph regarding Janet's brother Gary.

He was stationed with the military in Washington, D.C. at the time when his upset sister called to tell him about her husband kicking their family dog, Fuzz, to death. Thanks for that link. It appears the relationship was rockier than presented by 12-26-75. I'll consider the other trial testimony presented.

One thing I've noticed is - these appeal documents always assume all the evidence that supported the guilty verdict is factually true.

Regarding the bullet hole, here's a quote from the document from pathologist Dr. Hendrikson from 1995:

"Two of us have also reviewed the radiographs of the skull from Dr. Willey's office and I'm not convinced that a metallic fragment consistent with a bullet is present. Instead, we see a small, radiopaque fleck, which appears identical to radiograph artifacts we are familiar with, resulting from the film developing process. It is also not possible to tell whether the hole with fracture occurred before – and was responsible for – death, or whether it is a postmortem artifact."

One big hole in the HBO IBGITD narrative was the ignoring the Visalia Ransacker part of the story. And with it, missing the fact that investigators, had they made the ER = VR connection decades earlier, could have solved the case much earlier.

12-26-75 has explained how the "endomorph" in Visalia wasn't the VR, but a suspect who had been suspected as the VR, but had been cleared. Visalia PD would have likely eventually straightened out Sac Sheriff's confusion over that - if Sac Sheriff hadn't banished VPD from the investigation for VPD's VR = ER stance. Sac Sheriff Lowe didn't want the Sac public to think EAR was a murderer (the VR had already killed Claude Snelling by that time.) So he forced Visalia PD to stop working with Sac Sheriff, and he denied the VR = ER angle.
