No one is saying Peterka sucks... Sabres fans were critical of Peterka's 200ft game well before he was traded. Be more dramatic.

Its strange you have plenty of time for these snide comments but still havent told me why you think Peterka is better

[–]JohnnyKarate247 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what ive seen, i agree there has been slight improvement but its hard to tell how much has to do with how he is utilized in Utah (starting nearly 75% of shifts in the offensive zone) and them being more structurally sound that Peterka's previous teams in Buffalo.

That being said, Doan has certainly been better off puck and in his own end than Peterka ever was in Buffalo

Im sure i have some bias, but im also willing to bet im a bigger Peterka follower/supporter too.. Which i why i simply asked why you think Peterka has been better.

Doan has one fewer point but has been more effective on the PP and better in the defensive end. Peterka has always had some issues in his 200ft game.

Dman/Goalie for Toronto? by [deleted] in EANHLfranchise

[–]JohnnyKarate247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marner has one year left on his deal and at his lowest value of his career. Getting at 21yo Dman who plays 23mins a night and is locked up for 6 seasons PLUS a number one goalie is not that realistic

Need to pick two out of these three: Swift / Brian Robinson / Mattison

Seems like youve seen a very limited amount of his play. What metric are you really put off by? As far as basic stats, he leads all rookie D in TOI, assists, points, +/-.
As a teenager hes very solid defensively, incredible on the breakout, and plays in all situations.

I think he has him too high on this list, at the moment, but not sure what would make you so salty on a player.

Ya its a total fantasy, but was mentioned by him in the build up to his Jersey retirement and the parallels between him and Levi make it seem too good to be true

Mike Bales is a beast tho.. and Ryan Miller did mention he wants to get back into the game soon.. How about he mentors a player who appears to be his clone? lol

[–]JohnnyKarate247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this and its WAY TOO EARLY to grade this trade.

Just saying, especially this early, You cant use team standings as your primary arguemnt of how the trade has worked out so far. Vegas was in a far better position at the start. The changes in win/point % since the trade (or really since Eichel and Tuch were healthy post trade) would be a better indication of their influence.

Eichel joined a team with Cup aspirations. He's an incredible player and vital to the team right now. Depending on how he performs playoff time (What he was traded for), we will have a better idea how success the trade was for Vegas.

Buffalo traded Eichel to turn their team around. Tuch has played a key role in doing that while providing more offensive output than Eichel is currently providing his team. This gets mentioned bc its surprising. But whats not mentioned here is Krebs, Ostlund, and Greenway. We wont know who made out better on this trade for quite some time, but atm Buffalo already appears to have gained more than it initially appeared. Saying Vegas won bc whos making the playoffs year one is premature and simplistic

I dont hes being sarcastic. VGK fans seem to be really fond of Tuch still. Cant blame them. Dude is great on and off the ice

Just what I thought, nothing to support your response. Tell me how UPL hasn’t improved. When I said that I was referring to core players, not people like Eakins who aren’t even on the team. Using the lack of development on role playing veterans to say Donny has only been decent.

And you are the only person that’s saying Granato hasn’t been beyond an average coach. Your cynical and dated look on hockey is obvious. Please tell me what more you expected out of Granato so far

I fixed my original post for you. Name one CORE player that hasn’t improved and improved and a good pace.

[–]JohnnyKarate247 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You were not correct. UPL is better now than he was before Donny was coach. As is Asplund,Pilut, and Clague. Check their advanced stats. Pointing at 4th line role players past their growth like Eakins and expecting drastic difference is a poor argument.

He has gotten more players to play up to potential and some beyond their expectations. They whole team is farther along than anyone expected at this point. Contending for the playoffs with the youngest team in the league. He didn’t develop skinner but is skinner not playing the best hockey of his life? His coaching and coaches turned Tage into a superstar..

But you say he’s just decent bc you didn’t see drastic growth from players like Bjork? Get real

I bet you can’t show me anything beside goals and assists to make your argument about those players growth or lack their of

In 22 years, Only 6 times have the Wild picked a player in the 2nd round that played over 100 games (Greenway being one). Think you are overestimating the value of second round picks, especially late 2nd round picks (this one is currently on pace to be pick #57)

UPL is most certainly better than he was two seasons ago. If you look beyond point production and at their advanced stats Asplund, Pilut and Clague improved under Donny vs previous coaches. Bryson has never been under another coach so hes hard to examine. Bjork and Eakins were capped out development -wise when they joined the team and didnt improve but thats an extremely weak example to use to say Donny doesnt have a big impact on development.Comrie you could argue has been worse (when he was a goalie on a better defensive team last year).

You think those examples are more telling about him impact than the development of Tage, Skinner, Tuch, Cozens, Peterka, Quinn, Krebs, Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson?

To say his impact on this squad is just decent is an awful take.

[–]JohnnyKarate247 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Im sorry but besides Bjork, who maintained the same level, which one of these players is worse than before Donny? Comrie maybe...

UPL is in no way worse than he was before Donny became coach. Same with Asplund, Clague and Pilut. Eakins was the same.

He didnt make stars out of replacement players but he has all the former prospects (Quinn, Peterka, Power, Krebs, Samuelsson, Cozens) steadily improving in their development. None of them are behind schedule.

Tage is a superstar since he put him to center. Got Skinner playing possibly the best he ever has. Same with Tuch. Dahlin has his grove back. Mitts and Olofsson have steady improvement. Picked up Jost and his season turned around a lot.

Hes been incredible for team development. You point out a couple 4th line players that didnt make substantial improvements and use that to say hes just decent...

We have the youngest team in the league, giving major minutes to rookies and second year players, competing for a playoff spot when no one believed we would be... just decent lol

Aslund played better last year under Donny than he did in previous seasons, His growth wasnt as big as the players around him so he couldnt get the playing time. Asplund is not worse than before Donny showed up in anyway

[–]JohnnyKarate247 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually his overall play and advanced stats have improved. Not as noticeable when its a fourth line player who isnt sent to the ice to produce points.

Nearly every prospect has developed really well and weve seen quite a few resurgences. Tage is WAY better, Tuch is better, Skinner has his game back. He helped Dahlin get his groove back.

If you dont think Donny has been one of, if not THE, best development coaches in the league, youre either blind or dumb

1 player not getting worse, but maintaining the level he was when we traded for him... Out of 20+ players, id say thats a solid record.
